Fantastic company, great car, wonderful staff, I took out the extra insurance and I’m so glad I did as the car was damaged whilst parked in a car park and the driver didn’t leave their details.

Terrible experience with this car rental company in Malta. They charged us more than the agreed amount due to hidden fees and never refunded the money they promised to return. Their staff is rude and unhelpful, and the whole operation feels like a scam. Stay away from these scammers!

More than a month in advance we rented a 7-seater van in Malta through check24.
When we went to pick it up in CityGo KWL office, they told us that it had had an accident that morning and was not available. The funny thing is that another group that was just before us was told the same thing: all the vans had accidents? Or did they not exist?
Not only did we have to find a solution on our own, in a foreign country, wasting time and more expensively, but it took more than 2 months (after several claims and lies) to return our money (of course without any compensation).

We had a reservation made they cancelled the reservation without any notice. And we went to collect the car and they just told us thet there is no car for us.
The employee was very rude. When we asked to speak to someone in charge she told us to shut up and get out of her office.
Then they had us waiting for 4 hours that they would find us a car, and of course they didn't find us anything.
The worst experience we have ever had.

is this a Scam ? no, the Malta First Car hire Co is real and resides at the East Car Park in the Grounds of the Airport.
i write this review after i have calmed down due to the scamming process Malta First Car Hire uses to lure you in by advertising their rental rates cheap.

They advertised a car for £70 for 1 week, at the bottom of their advert it suggests that all cost of insurance etc are included, no information can be found that says they are going to charge you £25 to collect from the Airport, 99% of hirers will be collecting from the Airport.

They proclaim that your insurance is included in the price, however again when you are sat at the desk they then hit you with either a £2000 bond returnable if no damage or pay an extra £15 per day to eliminate any CDW (collision damage waver) charges.

Fuel is pre-charged at £48.00 for half a Tank, try and use half a Tank of fuel in Malta in one week, its nigh on impossible the island is so small and compact with vehicles, then to top it all 18% Tax was added, total for a car for one week that suggested £70, end up at £261.00.

The insurance waver was a joke as the car they supplied was not worth £1500 in value.

Take heed do not be fooled by the low advertised prices, Malta First Car Co will keep hiring cars to unsuspecting new arrivals, but i do wonder if their Owner, Directors realise that repeat business is easier than trying to gain new business, i will NOT be a repeat customer.

Der Fahrer kam eine 1/2 Stunde zu spät obwohl er den Termin vorher 2 Stunden vorverlegt hatte. Erstmal nicht schlimm, auch wenn das nicht unbedingt das ist, was man im Urlaub machen möchte.

Dann wollte er 2200,- € Kaution von der Kreditkarte blocken. Weil ich ein Kartenlimit habe und das Hotel ebenfalls schon eine Kaution geblockt hatte war dies nicht möglich.

Weder auf der Homepage noch in den Reservierungsunterlagen ist das ersichtlich.
Ich musste für die Woche also eine Zusatzversicherung für 159,- € dazubuchen, damit die Kaution auf 350,- € reduziert werden kann.

Zuzsätzlich wurde eine Tankgebühr von 50 € abgebucht. Das Auto sollte voll sein und konnte dafür leer zurück gegeben werden. 1/4 hat bei der Übergabe schon gefehlt, dann ist Malta eine kleine Insel. Wir waren jeden Tag unterwegs und sind 250 Kilometer gefahren. Also auch hier ein netter Zussatzverdienst.

Die Krönung ist jedoch eine weiter Abbuchnung über 73 €. Es gab keine Information warum. Es wurde scheinbar einfach von der Kaution einbehalten.

Finger weg von diesem Anbieter. So eine Frechheit habe ich in allen Urlauben noch nie mit einer Mietwagenfirma erlebt.

Ich habe Bilder vom Fahrzeug bei der Annahme und und Rückgabe gemacht. Ich bin schon sehr auf eine Begründung der Firma gespannt.

Alles in allen kann man nur sagen, hier wird versucht jeder Euro aus dem Kunden heraus zuholen. Die jeweiligen Mittel scheinen dabei recht egal zu sein.

Aus den gebuchten 138,- € wurden am Ende 406,96 €. Das ist doch mal nicht schlecht oder? Damit hat man sich wirklich einen Stern verdient!

Booked a car online , arrived to collect but was asked for a further €40 euros a day or a €2800 deposit , told them forget it , he said he will charge the €258 if I don’t take it , told him to keep his car and left , reported to the card company like everyone should do for misrepresentation . Wasted my time and was lucky to keep his teeth with his attitude and con !

We were anxious after reading some bad reviews and after being scammed by some terrible companies in the past. But on arrival we were expected and greeted warmly and the paperwork was processed very quickly. The car and deposit were as advertised (cheaper than a lot of others) and we were off to enjoy our holiday. On return the guys were ready for us and returned the deposit with no issues. The only thing that wasn't as advertised was the 'full to full' fuel promise. Our car only had half a tank and we were asked to return it the same which is difficult to calculate so you may wind up accidently over fuelling by a few euros but with car hire this cheap it really wasn't a big deal for us. Thumbs up from us :)

Die sind richtige Abzocker, 80 euro nach 2 Wochen sind von meine Karte abgebucht worden. Und 40 euro zum Tanken bei der Abholungstage wenden abgebucht.
Finger Weg davon sind nur Abzocker .

It's a scam for tourists. We arrived at the office with a quote of 212€ and ended up paying 425€ (they conceal information about insurance, gas and other taxes). We were also given a very old car, completely different from what we were expecting, and with more than 90.000km. The baby seat was absolutely horrible and they refused any assistance to install it. The guy at the costumer service at the airport is rude. Stay away from this scam.

I took car back and there was a little scratch, like there were before me many others.The guy who took car back,said everything ok,but when I asked deposit back,the office answered ,car is in the repair center now and we let you know...two weeks ,no information....feels like cheating....

We read the reviews after having ordered a car. There were some negative that we almost booked with another company because we got scared. The reviews though for the offer companies were just as bad. I think people just complain a lot after travelling and they don't read the rules properly because our experience with Maltafirst was outstanding. We knew upfront we had to either take the insurance or pay i am really impressed!

Helped us out enormously. We had a car with another company but not receive an email from them! So, w we were working blind. We searched online while at the Airport and Maltafirst was by the cheapest, so we booked online and walked into their office rented us a car and we were on our way. Would recommend them to everyone. Superb company,fabulous car and Most helpful.Very satisfied customer!

We had a puncture on the way to the airport. The roadside assistance was great. We would have missed our flight if they were not quick. We were helped by the staff at the office at Malta airport the man there was amazing.

I don't understand the negative reviews here, our experience was very positive. We booked a car directly via their website. We rented it for 4 weeks with an additional driver and the premium insurance package and it was only €460... The car was new and spacious, with built in GPS and the option to connect your phone for music. Returning the car was super quick and took like 5 minutes. We received the deposit!

I was fully expecting problem due to poor reviews. My rental went exactly how one would hope for. Check in was Excellent, they explained the insurance things and when I said I had insurance, they were happy. No pressure. The car was a new Hyundai i20. Malta is a dusty place, but I tried hard to keep the inside clean. So I was quoted €280 for 12 days of car hire, We arrived exhausted with one of my friend who has cancer to be hijacked by maltafirst with extra costs which put the price up to €508 The price I was given was €280 with all included insurance everything I printed and saved a copy. They charged €47 euros for under a half tank of fuel and €180 for insurance, and charges for using a debit card. I am very angry as feel decived by the documentation and did not want to let down my friends by cancelling and not having a car. I emailed them to ask why and got no response back. Have told my bank to block them drawing any further money from my account.
Dishonest and underhand tactics to confuse you and take more money. Would never use again. Made sure documents signed by person receiving the car back to say no damage. As they took about 30 photos of the car when I picked it up. Made to feel like a criminal. Disgusted by the whole lack of customer care.

Fabulous Company !!! Would highly recommend. Had asked a few questions via messenger prior to booking & our queries were always answered immediately. So glad we trusted our instinct & ignored the bad reviews. Booked a small car for 5 days. The price was very competitive. Collection was easy at the airport, very polite & efficient service. The car was immaculate. Inside & out and a pleasure to drive. Paperwork was clear & terms of hire were easy to understand. The car had over half a tank of petrol in & we were told to return with the same (no charge was made). We drove to Gozo and toured the Island for 5 days & it only cost €20 to top-up the fuel. A special thanks to Jasmir on the check-in desk & Manu who handed over the vehicle after all the pre-checks. Both very kind, polite & professional. A great experience from start to finish.
