There are instances where Seedrs have not followed through on securing the EIS certificates from HMRC and do not provide any updates or assurances to investors. In one instance investors through Seedrs have been waiting a year and a half to receive the certificates. When EIS relief is underpinning the investment, there is no room for risk, delays or not following through. I would suggest to others considering using the platform that they should consider whether Seedrs are giving due care to investor interests and whether it is worth the risk…

A message to any founder considering Seedrs/Republic
As a founder who used Seedrs, I feel compelled to share my disappointing experience. While the platform promises support and a collaborative partnership, the reality is far from it. Seedrs places the entire burden on founders to drive their campaigns, often leveraging our time, resources, and networks without providing meaningful support or guidance.
When things didn’t work out as planned, Seedrs showed little professionalism or willingness to engage constructively. Instead of helping navigate challenges or offering solutions, they simply washed their hands of the situation and left us to deal with the consequences.
Seedrs markets itself as a platform that empowers startups, but my experience felt more transactional than supportive. If you’re a founder considering this platform, be prepared to do all the heavy lifting yourself, and don’t expect much assistance if challenges arise post-campaign.

Can't sell shares even after 8 years investing
Taking your money is easy on the platform. But if you want to take your investment back out seeders make it seem like you can sell at any point.
What they don't tell you they wont let you sell.
I've been actively trying to take money out (because of a personal emergency) from two investments (one is nearly 10 years old) and seeders blocks through their platform, by saying its not eligible.
Extremely frustrating - don't invest unless you don't want to be able to sell your shares again afterward

NO TO SEEDRS/REPUBLIC
I have invested through Seedrs since it began. I think at the time Bitcoin was not so big. But looking back over the many years Bitcoin would have been a good investment compared to this.
I would describe these crowdfunding sites as one of the best pyramid schemes around, or equivalent off!
As with many reviews as a small investor one would suggest never get involved, bar one reason other than being a huge gamble, having access to one'sinvestment to sell and the capital available by this company to make it work.( 90% go bankrupt, but why?)
Some reasons of my experience.
1 Great idea, immature, no business acumen. Bankrupt
2 Investors receive no updates, and the company never intended to make money for them? Just use it. Buy back shares when investor receives no response, so left under the impression it has gone under. A con?
3 Company goes bankrupt, and an insider purchases the shares very cheaply and the original investors loose everthing.
4 Seedrs recognises the value for them as in the COMMISSIONS, so allows any start up company irrelevant of so called
background checks
5 Never any updates when the company obviously is in trouble, until it is to late.
6 And the list goes on and on as to why not to invest this way.
Imagine now with Republic and a world wide base the money being extracted from innocent small to large investors to only be thrown down the toilet.
The is only one Revolut. And the odds of finding a company that brings you in a good return are very slim. As if any company is remotely successful it will be bought out by a larger concern. What does that imply?
As a small ethical investor I strongly advise not to have anything to do with this company. Or if you have to wait a year or two. And no it won't be to late.

The priority for republic is to supply the necessary funds so an investor has access to their investment, after a minimum of five years and have the opportunity to consider other start ups/options.
You the company have restricted my options and arguably cost me £25.000.
This is and always will be totally unacceptable.
Again if you are a small investor DONT!
It is a brilliant scam for the majority, which 85-90% will endorse if given the opportunity.

It's true that many startup investments will fail, this is not unique to the Republic platform but common for the segment.
As we reject 98% of business applications due to them not meeting our requirements, and we only fund business that meet their min. investment target - our success rate tends to be higher than the industry average because of it.
You can see the failures / successes of every company currently in the portfolio if you visit our secondary market and sort by % growth. You can see there have also been successful growth stories too (not just Revolut - but whoa - what a success that was!).
The information provided on which you use to invest is guaranteed to be fair, not misleading and accurate. It's a regulated investment platform.
Republic isn't authorised to provide advice but we can say this is a high risk investment category and there is a high risk of losing all your money. This investment type isn't suitable for everyone.

Poor transparency and service - avoid Seedrs
Overall, I suggest you avoid investing money via Seedrs / Republic Europe.
Over about 4 years I invested a lot of money across 5 companies and while the seedrs interface is straightforward, the level of transparency on the performance of my investments is really poor. For two of my companies, investors have asked for updates and the startups have just flat ignored their messages.
I fear another of my companies has already gone bust and when I asked Seedrs / Republic Europe if that is the case, their reply was totally evasive and disingenuous.
Which brings me to the quality of their support - it's really hard to get a clear answer from them and every time I ask (not often), I walk away angry. You'd get better service buying a pint of milk from a local shop and yet you trust this platform with thousands of pounds!
No doubt they will reply with an evasive, meaningless message!

Kiss your money goodbye
So I wanted to back a crowdfunding, which was only possible in GBP, not EUR. So I deposit money to the GBP wallet. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to back it in the end because it closed too fast and for some reason I couldn’t back any other campaign. So I wanted to withdraw the money. After a few failed attempts (with no explanation) I reach out to support. Thay’ve been promising me a solution for MONTHS now, without giving me an ETA or clear answer. They just say they are working on a technical solution. Sorry but after MONTHS I do not see how you aren’t able to transfer the money back, I have no understanding. So be warned before you trust them with your money.

I absolutely agree with your experience, we've been investigating it for too long and you've should've had your money back already. If that hasn't happened yet, please escalate to the MD of Europe and he will personally return the funds.
For other readers, this was a particularly rare use case where the investor deposited funds in a foreign currency using the conversion services of their bank. But on trying to return the funds deposited, in the same currency as they were deposited, the bank wouldn't accept them. We tried multiple times before we the rejection codes were clear.
Hopefully this is sorted now but I agree, it took long and was frustrating to witness - many apologies.

Mostly unsellable shares
I have an account for years now, invested in several projects. A lot of them go bankrupt, which is all in the game of course. But if they don't, you'll never sell your shares. I have shared shares once, in 7 years. All other attempts failed. All profit is therefore stuck on this platform.
Also: Seedrs agreed to a deal with ABN AMRO to sell my BUX shares, which became worthless due to this deal (they were +60%, my only really profitable ones, before this deal).

Thanks for your feedback and sorry to hear about your Bux investment. As we have said a few times in this channel, if you don't make money, neither do we. In this case, the options where; allow the business to fail and no one makes anything or accept investment on terms and a few investors make something back. An unpleasant choice but a logical one I think.
The secondary market is a unique feature, I can't think of any platforms in Europe that offers one and only one in the US and none of them demonstrate the liquidity of ours. We recently celebrated over £30m transacted in the market and a staggering 75k sharelots completed. So some people are selling!
We implemented a feature many years ago where you could see the 'clearance' price of the previous market. Basically at what price the shares have been selling at - this way you can alter your selling price to find a buyer. There may be other tricks and tips that you can use to help find a buyer - feel free to reach out to our support team to find out more.

Service seems to have fallen off a cliff
I have been investing with Seedrs (now Republic Europe) for almost six years now. I don't agree with the review that said 'you will lose all your money, guaranteed' - of the 70+ companies I've invested in over six years, 4 have gone into administration to date. But these are risky investments and anyone investing should be aware there is a significant chance of losing money.
The reason for my 2 star review is that in recent months, the service seems to have evaporated. Companies I've invested in are trying to raise additional funds via rights issues. Investors ask when the rounds are due to go live, are quoted dates based on what Seedrs have told them, and then the dates are missed because Seedrs haven't done what's necessary at their end. One company has reported they've been chasing Seedrs for a week and not had any response.
Seedrs also take your money when you invest, unlike some other platforms which only take the money when the investment round closes and shares are issued.
I wouldn't mind so much but Seedrs / Republic recently upped the minimum charge for investing to £5 - when I originally started investing I think the minimum was 50p. This is a real disincentive to topping up investments for relatively small amounts e.g. in rights issues. I really struggle to see what better service we're getting from the higher charges.

In response to some of your questions here and now:
- pre-emption rights are indeed negotiated and managed by the Seedrs Portfolio. We are one of the only crowdfunding platforms in the world to include these rights as standard. We do not always exercise these rights as it is not always in the interest of the investors to do so, but we retain the right to do so. If you'd like to share the particular issue you are having with an Issuer (we have over 750 in our portfolio) we can investigate this one for you.
- We are also one of the few (only?) crowdfunding platforms in the world that offers investment accounts where you can deposit money. It also means we can take investment upfront and hold on to it for the duration of the campaign for the Issuer. This has a number of advantages, you can easily cancel, edit, and reinvest funds without having to constantly go through checkout and refunds. It also means that the business is much more likely to close the campaign and receive all the funds promised. The money is already in the account, so to speak. Considering those funds are needed to grow the business, it's one reason, we think, our portfoilo success rate is higher than our competitors. Imagine closing a campaign and only getting 80% of what was 'pledged'!
- Your're correct, rather than increase the min. investment amount, we chose instead to increase the min. fee amount. This way there is still an option to invest a smaller amount but the proportion of the fee is higher. We felt it was important to be retain the minimums, it was one of our founding principles, however times change and so does inflation - thus we opted for this route. We believe our minimums are amongst the lowest in the world for this service, but we will continue to monitor the market and make adjustments as necessary.

It's a good crowdfunding platform. I have used it for years. As an investor, you have to do your own due diligence as most start-ups go bust. The few that do well cover the losses of others. A decent amount of information is made available on the platform when investing, which makes the process easier, as well as claiming the tax benefits (EIS/SEIS).

Indeed the investment of over 300 trusting people is extremely questionable at best!

Condescending LP experiences
I hate that they send you reminders after reminders that should you not pay your portion of the commitment, then you will 100% forfeit your interest. I find their tone and language to be threatening and disrespectful to LPs. I will make sure advise other funds and startups to not work with Seedrs as I believe that they act in a condescending manner. You are platform that serves the LPs just as much as the GPs, yet you understand nothing about the LP experience.

Like others have advised, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT invest in any companies raising through Republic, formerly Seedrs. You will lose it all, guaranteed. Republic do not act in the interest of their investor customers. Their sole objective is to generate revenue from fundraisings. Once that's done, you're left with no leg to stand on. The start-ups will wind down and reappear as another entity, taking your cash with them.

The fees you were charged for investing are used to cover payment processing, deal flow origination, pitch presentation and the fees we charge the business are one part of our revenue model, that's true.
We also charge you the investor, a success fee of 5% to ensure our incentives are aligned with yours. Basically, if you don't make any money, neither do we. It is not in our interests to see your investment fail in anyway, clearly. If you invest 100 and return 200 thus making 100, we would receive 5. If you invest 100 and return 100, we make 0.
So yes, I agree, our objective is to make money and key part of that model is seeing our investors make money.
I am very sorry your investments haven't worked out and hopefully, in future, more do to balance out your losses.

Nice platform for investment in early…
Nice platform for investment in early stage companies, often with EIS or SEIS tax relief.
Their website could be better - particularly around 'downloading documents', so on several occasions its been pretty frustrating wasting time trying to workaround the horrible user interface.
5-stars for the service in general, dropped to 3-stars due to the website.

So far worked well for me.
Obviously, the businesses seeking money via Seedrs (now Republic Europe) represent an inherently risky investment. Every investor shuld realize it (and not immediately blame the platform when things sometimes go wrong).
Seedrs staff occasionally takes their time to respond, but then the answers provided are typically quite detailed and highly professional.

DO NOT INVEST. This is just a scam to gain free capital for start ups. These companys need to raise money from the public for a reason. Banks dont lend them anything for good reason! I have invested at seedrs. the chances are quite small for a startup to actually make a profit. I was aware of this and so should you. Even in this case the company was sold, should be good for me. Except it wasnt.. These things are not regulated whatsoever. They can do whatever they like. They shift some money here and there, they make up rules, of create some other companys and bimbamboom you get nothing of your investment back. DO NOT DO IT.

Thank you for your feedback on our proposition and we are very sorry we have managed to enrage you to the extent that you might want to accuse us of being a scam. Whatever we did, we clearly could have done better.
We are heavily regulated by the FCA here in the UK (and Ireland and US) and are subjected to regular audits by those regulators. We are regulated to offer these investments, receive and hold funds and assets and operate a crowdfunding platform such as we have done for the last 12 years. We were in fact, the first crowdfunding platform in the world to be regulated - we remain proud of that heritage.
I am not quite sure how to define "bimbamboom" but I have to admit, the legal processes involved in investing in private businesses are complex. Especially as businesses wind-up the process is complex and not easily communicated. We could definitely do a better job there and its something we strive to do at all times.

The scam on Seedrs (Republic Europe) with "shares" in GetBux (Bux) has finally made clear that millions of euros will be held on by the CEO of GetBux and the last round of selling shares will be "preferential shares" of which the remaining money will be divided over.
Do NOT invest in anything Republic Europe offers, as this is a alledgedly an approved practice.

The end for Bux investors is clearly not the outcome anyone hoped for. Not the business itself, the CEO, the Bux team, the investors nor the platform that enabled its crowdfund - Republic.
Our interests are aligned with yours, the investors. If you do make money, we do not make money either. Our success fee ensures we always act in the best interests of the group of investors. In this case, this exit was not beneficial to the platform in anyway.
When faced with the absolute failure of a business and a terrible outcome for all versus a still terrible but slightly better outcome for some, we can understand why the business chose the path it did. It doesn't make it any easier to accept though.
Investing in a private businesses is a high risk, illiquid investment and the risk of losing your investment is high. You might see as much of 80% of these types of investments fail and you should only invest if you are prepared to lose all the money you invest. Thus, we suggest building a broad portfolio of investments to protect against these types of outcomes.
We wish you better returns on your other investments, whether that be via our platform or others and we are genuinely guttered this one didn't turn into the unicorn we were all wishing for.

I have tried investing with seedrs (Republic Europe) however when transferring money without sending reference I was required to send proof of payment via email to support according to their site. After multiple emails to support there has been only a single automated response. I will cancel my investment and advise any against this platform

Transferring funds into an account used by 1000's does indeed require a unique reference number. Without it our banking provider doesn't know where to allocate the funds - it can't even assume that the name of the account that sends the funds is the same name of the account that is meant to receive them. We really need that number - thus the request for a receipt.
Still regardless of that mistake we should've gotten back to you more quickly and kept you informed of what was going on. I trust you have now received the funds back to your account. Sorry you missed out this time.
