There were delays in starting the roofing work as they couldn't find a man for quite a few weeks. The job carried out was simpler than the company's surveyor's recommendation but I was only offered a discount (8%) when I asked for one. When I objected to the standard of the (allegedly completed work), the contractor returned with a burner (rather than glue) and a lot more felt which he took a morning to lay. The company didn't check the contractor's work after the second attempt so I don't feel confident about recommending the company. But the roof hasn't leaked since (mid Sept '26). As with all transactions like this, both sides can feel aggrieved. But it is hard for customers to understand trading conditions these days, given rising costs and admin so I've given this 2 stars.

I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Home Building Services and I honestly can’t fault them. Great company, really professional and a genuinely good team of people.
They know their stuff when it comes to damp proofing, they turn up when they say they will, work hard and take pride in doing the job properly. Everything is well organised and communication is always spot on.
For me, the biggest thing is reliability and being able to trust the people you’re dealing with, and these guys definitely tick those boxes.
Would happily recommend Home Building Services to anyone needing damp-proofing work. Proper company, proper service and good people to deal with. 5 stars from me. 👍💯💪

Richard came out this morning and was absolutely fantastic. He arrived right on time, was extremely knowledgeable and gave me some brilliant advice on the spot.

I had significant damp and mould plus some rotting wood around my shower tray which had clearly been leaking unnoticed for quite some time.

I therefore contacted Home Building and Surveying Company and they sent round one of their surveyors Richard who performed a very thorough non-invasive survey. Richard then provided me with a very clear explanation of what the problem was (based on his 34 years experience as a surveyor) and what the next steps were which he advised could be carried out by a plumber.

I was very grateful indeed for the honest and thorough advice provided by Richard which ended up costing me nothing even though he had called out in the pouring rain to carry out the survey.

I have no hesitation therefore in recommending this company due to their professionalism, high integrity and the excellent way in which they treat their customers.

I contacted this company because I had damp affecting a couple of walls in my property and I wanted to understand what was causing it and get the necessary repairs carried out.

The surveyor attended and inspected the affected areas. He advised that one area looked like it could be caused by a leak and should be checked by a plumber, while another appeared to be related to the external wall.

During the appointment, the surveyor asked whether I had recently purchased the property and whether I had had a survey carried out before buying it. He said the damp issues appeared to have been there for some time and it was actually him who suggested that I should consider complaining to my previous surveyor and trying to recover the cost, mentioning that surveyors have insurance.

I want to be very clear about this, because it later became a major issue: I did not contact this company asking for a legal report, expert witness report or any document to use against my previous surveyor. The subject was raised by their own surveyor during the appointment. My reason for calling was much simpler, I had found damp, I wanted it investigated, and I wanted my walls fixed.

The surveyor gave me a quotation handwritten on a piece of paper. I explained that I needed a proper written report and formal quotation because the property is share of freehold and I needed to show the findings and costs to the other freeholders so we could discuss the repairs and how they would be paid for. I repeated that I wanted to get the damp sorted before it became worse. I was told that sending the report and quotation would not be a problem.

Nothing arrived, so I contacted the company to chase it. I was told that I would receive the documents that day, but they did not arrive. A few days later I contacted them again and was then told they would not provide the documents because they believed I intended to use them for legal purposes.

I found this extremely frustrating because this was not something I had ever said. In fact, the idea of complaining to my previous surveyor had been raised by their surveyor, not by me.

During one of my follow-up calls, I was also accused of not being transparent about the reason for the appointment. I found that particularly unpleasant and unfair. I had called because I had discovered damp in my property and wanted somebody to investigate it and carry out the necessary work. There was nothing more complicated than that.

If the company had decided after the visit that they did not want to provide a written report or formal quotation, they could simply have told me. Instead, I had to keep chasing, after being told the documents would be sent, and was then given an explanation which did not reflect why I had originally contacted them or what had actually been discussed during the appointment.

In the end, I was left waiting for about a week with damp that still needed dealing with, no report and no proper quotation. I couldn’t keep waiting while the problem potentially got worse, so I had to find another company and get the repairs dealt with elsewhere.

The whole situation was unnecessarily unpleasant and could have been avoided with clear and honest communication from the beginning.

I was not alone during the survey, so another person was present and heard the conversation with the surveyor.

I appreciate that the initial appointment was arranged quickly and free of charge, but based on my experience I was very disappointed with the follow-up, the communication, the way I was spoken to, and the way the purpose of my original enquiry was later characterised.

Home building installed a DPC for me. I had just purchased my first home which signs of rising damp. A survey show some signs and the surveyor recommended the full house be done, which made perfect sense for the guarantee to cover the whole house

From the surveyor to on site guys, there were very professional, explained everything that was going to be done, answering my questions and left everything clean and tidy

On time, clean and tidy, plus work was done to good standard. Staff polite and helpful. All you need to get a job done.

After a small false start on my project the team kicked in and made every effort to make sure I was happy and that the work was to the best standard and requirements.

Had two lads around today SR8 (sorry can’t remember there names). Called me up before let me know est time of arrival. Got here hit it off straight away. Told me what they were doing PIV, New Fan in kitchen and 3 trickle vents. Got to say so quick, tidy and pride took in the job. I would definitely recommend 10/10. Bertie Bassett and Roland Rat 👍

I cannot recommend home building and surveying company highly enough. From start to finish, the whole team has been absolutely outstanding.

A big thank you to Peter the surveyor, who was professional, knowledgeable, and explained everything clearly from the very beginning. Tierey carried out the damp proof course to an exceptionally high standard, and Dan and Paul did a fantastic job on the drainage, guttering, and plastering. Their workmanship was first-class.

The team was always prompt, polite, hardworking, and respectful of my home. They kept everything clean and tidy throughout the job and were completely transparent, taking the time to explain each stage of the work so I always knew exactly what was happening.

The quality of the workmanship has been excellent, and it's clear they take real pride in what they do. They're genuinely great lads and a credit to the company.

So far I’ve just had the survey and works outlined on my property, but the surveyor Stewart was incredibly knowledgable and friendly, made great suggestions and helped define what I need with clear reason and demonstration

This is the most professional building company I have ever used. From Richard who did the survey, everyone in the office, and John who did the work - all were excellent. The pricing was fair and transparent and the outline of the work very detailed so I knew exactly what to expect and was carried out exactly. My property was treated with care and respect and everywhere left clean and tidy.

Efficient friendly workers. Cleared up well. Job well done
