I run two businesses, and over the Lockdown period I experienced significant and quite damaging impacts to mine and my businesses financial situation. David Dodgson who has advised me for many years, including through a prior successful business sale, was a great support and provider of excellent advice. He continues to help through the recovery and provides excellent planning advice and financial guidance. His insights and knowledge are invaluable.

TPO has been managing our finances for over twenty years. We very much look forward to our six monthly review with our advisor with Susan Tait, it is always a pleasure.
Susan's advice is excellent, taking a holistic approach looking at investments, private and NHS pensions, property, wills, and power of attorney, and income streams.
We have always been well looked after, as Susan guides us through the options best suited to us, and has been there to help, when we are also making other important life decisions.

Initial consultation was fine and the area of interest was discussed. The proposal arrived and when I read it I realised that I can do 99% of the proposed items myself and looking at the fee structure I decided against going any further. The initial fee is very high and in the current economic situation I just couldn’t justify it. The biggest thing is that since receiving the proposal and declining it there has been NO further communication from TPO, not even an acknowledgement of not using them. The warm and fuzzy feeling just isn’t there.

I was a client for a number of years without problem. Last year I had to chase them for the usual annual review of the investments. Nothing happened and after further chasing I was told I was no longer entitled to this unless I paid a lot more; I had received no notification of a change to the service. I complained and was then told it was a mistake and the change only applied to new customers. However, the review was still not done. When I chased again, they contradicted themselves again I said I could not get the review. What staggers me is the casual ease with which they could tell me one thing and then the complete opposite, without any sense that this is completely unprofessional and fundamentally undermines trust. I made a complaint but was most unhappy with the response, so took a complaint to the Ombudsman who instructed them to award me compensation.

The advisor was friendly, thoughtful and down to earth. Discussed my needs and produced a recommendation report with some sensible advice about my pension and investments. No gripes with the advice aside from the projected returns, minus the fees they would have charged, which were extremely modest. I decided not to proceed with The Private Office to implement the advice so they sent me an invoice for £7,020 - which seems a lot of money for a straightforward recommendation report - and threatened to pass my debt to a debt collector if I didn't pay.

Terrible experience. They delayed implementation of my pension sharing order by sitting on paperwork Scottish Widows needed.
Chose them as they said they’d help me through the process!
If they made a basic error like this costing me thousands and untold stress how could I trust them. Adviser is David Dodgson

The Ombudsman ruled in their favour as I opted not to take advice as I no longer had any faith in them. TPO were legally allowed to take 3850k despite just advice given in 10/2020 outlining what they could provide and then putting pension sharing in Investacc cash account. So legally they took the fee but morally it is poor practice. A responsible professional organisation would have adjusted the fee to reflect the service actually provided.

Again as they are financial advisers not legal body the Ombudsman found in their favour on the delayed pension sharing order. I naively trusted David when he said he’d help me with the paperwork but TPO didn’t. David didn’t realise they already had the paperwork needed to progress the order. I eventually identified this and yet they deal with this every day.

BEWARE

Can’t manage to leave a review on their own site where there all glowing- umm. I note they say can use vouched for not trust pilot but will try that now.
