We couldn’t be happier with our experience with Skipton Building Society. From start to finish, the mortgage was easy to set up, with excellent communication and a really smooth process.

What made it even more special was the lovely welcome pack we received just a couple of days after moving into our new home. It included coffee, tea, biscuits, a magazine, picture hooks and some lovely vouchers — such a thoughtful and unexpected touch!

It’s these little details that really make a difference. We would highly recommend Skipton for their professionalism, communication and genuinely lovely customer service. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ludicrously complex sign on / registration process. By the time letters finally arrive, I've long since left behind what I was trying to do so I'm back to square one. It's 2026. Nobody's waiting for the penny post to arrive with a missive from the bank manager. Things need to be instant. I'd say avoid them and go with a mainstream bank with mainstream app facilities.

What an amazing experience with skipton. Just took out a morgage out with them. Such a smooth process from start to finish. Every person i have spoken to on the phone have been so helpful and kind, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you so much for all your help and guidance, will recommend to all my family and friends.

Shockingly poor service from Skipton. They cost me a lot of money by a service error on their behalf, but have argued with me, and refused to even apologise. At one point I had close to one hundred thousand pounds in their hands, but that was not enough for them to even say sorry. The correspondence from Skipton was belittling, and rude. Will not invest another penny with them .

As a mortgage customer, dealing with Skipton Building Society has been an absolute nightmare. I am also a Nationwide customer, and the contrast is staggering. Nationwide treats you like a valued member; Skipton treats you like a cash cow and a baseline criminal suspect.

Following a forced app migration, their broken IT infrastructure locked us out of the web portal. Their password reset protocol literally requires a retired, decommissioned app to generate a code—a permanent dead-end technical loop. They have completely stripped away "Secure Messaging," forcing me to waste hours of my professional working day sitting in live webchat queues just to execute contractually permitted mortgage overpayments.

To make matters worse, during these webchat sessions, frontline staff subject you to invasive, repetitive interrogations regarding historical balances and "source of funding" for routine domestic overpayments. Furthermore, they heavily restricted our account functions during a routine review, penalising us simply for trying to pay down our debt efficiently.

When challenged on this severe service degradation, their Customer Relations team issued a dismissive ultimatum telling us to just abandon a platform, entirely ignoring our financial loss. We are now being forced to look at remortgaging away from Skipton entirely, making our £995 completion fee a total wasted loss.

A formal case has now been lodged with the Financial Ombudsman Service under active reference PNX-6109819-Z9Y6. This 1-star review will remain live publicly as a warning to other consumers to take their business elsewhere, and it will not be amended or taken down until this dispute is fully and fairly resolved. Avoid at all costs.

UPDATE (20 August 2026): Skipton has replied below with a generic template telling me to reach out to their Customer Resolutions team. This is a hollow corporate mask. Your Senior Consultant, Emily Whyte, has already formally refused to offer any internal resolution or refund our £995 fee, explicitly stating in writing that Skipton will now only discuss this case directly with the regulator. The dispute rests entirely with the Financial Ombudsman Service under active reference PNX-6109819-Z9Y6. This review stays up permanently.

Spoke with Skipton Livechat regarding maturity of a fixed rate ISA. Person with whom I spoke was very polite and knowledgable so was able to answer my questions. Very satisfied alround and now have a way forward to think about.

Fast and to the point, questions clearly answerd

I have been with Skipton for many years as I liked the way their branch system worked & the great rates offered on ISA products in particular.
The methodology appealed to me also community focused the staff always were polite & seemed happy in their work.

Recently this seems to have changed & reading that changes that are going on at the society head office there has been a senior management change in recent years & to me a lot of these values once held are disappearing due to this change. Bad press about a certain senior member of management regarding a bullying culture & ageism culture are now putting me off as this goes totally against what the societies values were.

The online system is shocking paying money in & out takes way too long especially having to go through a third party account.

I think Skipton should stick at what is was good at stop trying to become more bank & corporate focused or it will lose its identity.

I gave 3 stars due this but the real positives are their branches & good interest rates I hope they can sort the management & internet issues out for the good of all its members.

I for one will stick with Skipton for now & will continue to watch what progresses at the society so I would recommend Skipton's savings products I can`t comment on any other products.
