Do not use

I was trying to download a pdf sewing pattern that I had just purchased and it completely disappeared the minute I pressed download. I should have been able to download this pattern 5 times but didn’t even get to download once and no options left to download again. I have to hope now that the company I purchased it from will let me have the link again or it will be an absolute waste of money.

404 Error Showstopper [fixed]

We've used SendOwl for years. However, recently it started to display a 404 error in our store ("404
Sorry, we can’t find that page") after a customer switches the currency. The problem is caused by broken cookies and could be relatively easily fixed on their end. However, customer support says:

"So I have spoken with our development team and they have been over this issue at length, however, unfortunately, it is a real headscratcher and we have not been able to find the root of the issue."

They now flat out refuse to fix the problem or even to provide a simple workaround (a way to clear the cookies). Instead, they suggest we change our web site, making it more cumbersome for customers to switch currencies.

This is unfortunately not the only issue but the real showstopper. Other issues we were having:
- download links suddenly stopped working
- no translations possible for parts of the checkout
- SendOwl displaying the rather unhelpful error message "Well that didn't work" to customers

Unfortunately, this is the end of the road for us with SendOwl.

Update (May 2022):

The 404 error issue has now been fixed (about a year after first reporting it). We are still using SendOwl as switching e-commerce solutions is tedious for us and our customers.

We can now recommend SendOwl for small businesses which can live with its limitations:
- no localization of certain content (product names, upsells)
- little control over existing orders (VAT numbers, download restrictions)
- little flexibility with certain options (e.g. download validity limited to a fixed list between 1 day and two years)

To your point about little control over existing orders, we'd love to understand what additional control you'd like to have?

You can reset the download restrictions for an order at any time, however, we are not able to retroactively change an order's VAT and tax status. But please reach out to us at product@sendowl.com and we can see how we can better support your needs.

Bungie Store scam

I got an email from them claiming that they were a game developer Bungie and that I received a free in-game item for creating my Bungie Store account. When I clicked on the link it took me to a download page, which is not how receiving in-game products works in this game.

Snotty customer service

Asked for help in changing a customers email address. Support desk did not actually answer my questions fully and were quite rude in their responses. If they'd fully answered my questions then the issue would have been resolved quicker than the 6 emails it actually took with one of those suggesting to me that when I 'feel' like supplying the email to let them know. Telling them where it was on the buyers receipt which I didnt have access to at the time, so they could copy and paste it across easily was apparently not telling them where the email address was. And they couldnt simply tell me that they couldnt access that screen or were unable to do it that way.
Also the discount codes often do not work but apparently they do - despite me being told regularly by customers that they cant get them to work. Will be looking for another provider asap

Don't use!!

My son bought something for Fortnite. It took the charge then said the download would be ready in 2 to 10 hours. Then an email came saying it was ready. When you click on it to access it then says the file is no longer accessible. there is no option to report the scam or problem, no way to deal with the issue. I will report scam to Amex.

It's best to reach out to the seller directly so they can provide access to the file you purchased. You can usually find contact information on their website or socials. Alternatively, you can issue a chargeback on your card as the seller is not contactable and you did not receive what you paid for.

I purchased an ebook which was sent to…

I purchased an ebook which was sent to me via Sendowl.
The page I was working on was poorly designed, worked very slowly, was riddled with blind spots and was very very user unfriendly.

It instructed me to download to a Dropbox. In the wink of an eye I had supposedly used up my 3 attempts to download but am not certain how this occurred due to the poor design and operation of their software.

I emailed them and got a reply from a bot telling me to contact the seller.

This is unbelievably bad customer service.

DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRC UUMSTANCES

Payment Issue

Offered free license keys through sendowl - Order could not be processed because of payment issue... Then I wanted to search an alternative to sendowl but Sendowl don't allow to export license keys so I had to load every key in list in order to CopyPaste. Terrible service.

Best Buy-Button solution

I started researching several years for a nice and easy version to sell online without the hassle.
Sendowl is perfect for the european market. GDPR compliant and easy to use for physical goods and downloads.
If you combine it with membership platforms like membermouse, you can!

Support is quick and friendly. :)

Can‘t understand the other reviews. Maybe used not correctly.
I can only give 5 stars so far.

It’s a nice app but billing issue (beware merchants)

It’s a nice app. Customizable and seems to function well. However, I did not appreciate being charged after uninstalling the app from my Shopify account. If it’s uninstalled, it’s no longer being used so any subsequent charges should cease by default. I ended up having to log in to SendOwl and cancel a second time (common courtesy should be to stop charging once you receive the deletion notice from Shopify). Other apps stop charging upon deletion, but SendOwl kept charging.

I've been using it for 3 years

I've been using it for 3 years now and I had a very good experience. They answer to every support request, even though they didn't added the features I was suggesting but still, support came back with a reasonable explanation. The platform works pretty well and it's cheaper then other.

Don’t be fooled what a Scam

Don’t be fooled. My brother purchased an xbox live code for my son but I didn’t activate it right away and now that I’m trying to use it, it isn’t available anymore. Sounds like a BIG SCAM to me. Don’t be fooled people. Do your research first.

Horribly awful customer service.

After reading the feature set, I thought SendOwl was the ideal solution. In creating a test product I ran into some friction (confusion) and decided to reach out to support. I asked support specifically for a chat walk through for help. I got a response that said; "we don't do phone calls." I never asked for a phone call and it's EXTREMELY common for companies focused on customer service to offer chat support. I replied back clarifying that I would be happy with a chat walk through, I haven't heard back since.

Unusable…

Will be getting a refund through paypal. Download link would not download product and as it will only allow 3 attempts I now have no access to the product I have paid for.
