Went into the Tunbridge Wells store as…
Went into the Tunbridge Wells store as we were getting a loft extension and needed tiles for our new bathroom. Store was completely empty and the 2 members of staff just sat at their desks just on their phones didn't even bother to lift their heads to say hello let alone come over and ask if we needed any help. Walked straight across the road to Quorn Stone and got brilliant service! Such a shame as had seen good reviews.

Excellent service from Holly O'Hara and Nicole Williams — both went well beyond what I'd have expected.
I was choosing tiles for an ensuite and kept changing my mind: fluted, not fluted, warm, grey, back to warm again. They were patient throughout, pulled sample after sample without a hint of impatience, and photographed the combinations for me so I could look at them properly at home.
The advice was genuinely useful rather than just agreeable. When I was weighing two colourways, it was pointed out that the veining in one picked up the tone of the other — exactly the sort of thing I wouldn't have spotted, and it settled the decision.
I'm partially colour blind, which makes choosing tiles harder than it sounds. Having two people willing to describe what they were seeing, and to keep bringing options out until something worked, made a real difference.
Ended up with Savoy Amber and Crema and I'm very happy with the choice. Thank you both.

We have had a really bad experience with this company. Just don’t use them. They advised us on ordering and over ordered huge amounts and now will not accept returns. This is because it was ‘advice only’ and they take no responsibility. Well thank you Mandarin Stone you really are a fraud. I have been blocked from writing our experiences on instagram - I get what this firm really is no customer care.
FYI my comments on instagram have been removed by them and I have been blocked. I wonder how many others out there have been taken down and removed??
What a long response- always a bad sign to justify their actions.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your experience, although we feel it is important to clarify the circumstances.
Firstly, have you seen our most recent correspondence dated 14th August? Far from simply refusing to assist, our email explained that, provided you can supply us with a full and accurate breakdown of the material remaining, including the product, size and quantity of each item, together with confirmation of how it is currently packaged, we are prepared to review this against the batches we currently hold in stock to consider a return.
We would also like to point out your request is to return goods purchased over six months ago. This sits well outside our standard 30-day returns policy and is certainly not the norm within our industry given ever-changing batches.
As with all tile suppliers, we ask customers to confirm quantities with their installer before placing an order. In this case, we specifically asked you to do this via email and explained that the quantities we provided were only a rough estimate based on the measurements you supplied.
We are therefore disappointed by the suggestion that we are "frauds" or that we take no responsibility. We have been trading for nearly 40 years and pride ourselves on offering fair and consistent terms, alongside a high level of customer service which was provided in our Harpenden store. While we cannot accept responsibility for surplus material ordered without installer confirmation, we have nevertheless offered to review the remaining goods against our current stock to see whether there may be a way we can assist.
We hope this clarifies the position.

Just to clarify a couple of points, we keep over 90% of our product range in stock and available for immediate dispatch. Occasionally, particularly with very popular products or when larger orders are placed, stock can sell through extremely quickly and a lead time may apply. We completely appreciate that waiting for stock can be frustrating and apologise for any inconvenience this caused.
With regard to delivery charges, these reflect the cost to us of transporting heavy, palletised goods safely throughout the UK. We regularly review our charges and believe they are competitively priced when compared on a like-for-like basis with other pallet delivery services.
We appreciate that some companies advertise free delivery; however, the cost of transporting heavy goods still has to be covered and is often incorporated into the price of the products themselves. As we also offer customers the option to collect directly from our Head Office, we prefer to keep our product and delivery costs separate and transparent, so customers only pay for delivery when they require it.

Lovely tiles, could do better with customer service
We used Mandarin Stone tiles through 3 bathrooms and a guest wc. The people on the shop floor were lovely, the tiles are lovely, however the post sales customer service is lacking, especially considering they’re at the higher end of tile purchases.
From being very shirty towards my fitters and me when we thought the wrong quantities had been sent, despite us trying to say accidents happen - to them then actually sending wrong items, which we were understanding about. They insisted we pay again for a second order for the items they should of sent in the first place, but then wouldn’t refund the incorrect tiles they sent in error until they were back in their warehouse, which took almost a week. We strongly felt they should’ve refunded us as soon as the tiles were collected, as the mistake was on their behalf. And lastly, out of the 4 bags of grout we ordered, only two were the correct blend, as per our original order for the first two bags, but they refused to refund the two incorrect bags. We don’t like to complain but we spent an awful lot with Mandarin Stone and definitely expected a higher end supplier to treat their customers better and thought others should know.

Review of Marlow branch
Review of Marlow branch. Purchased almost £1500 worth of tiles, grout, trims and silicone. Ordered some marble as part of the order. On delivery some of it was cracked - on picking one piece up carefully, it broke in two. Tiler was not happy to use so requested a replacement - I had to travel to the Marlow branch to collect. Was not offered a home delivery. At the store, replacement pieces slightly better but didn’t have the nice veining that the original batch had. Was going to use as niche cheeks. I asked if I could have one extra piece to what I had purchased so that I could get the most out of the veining. My request was flatly refused and I was told the defect pieces would go back into their normal stock to sell… After the inconvenience I couldn’t believe they would not give me one small extra tile that probably cost them a couple of pound. I was told I would have to pay extra so obviously I didn’t on principle. I was then told if I didn’t use the tiles (as I still wasn’t sure the tiler would be happy to use them), I could return them. As it turned out, the tiler didn’t want to use the tiles. Fast forward a few weeks - I phoned to arrange an in store return (exchange actually, as I was planning to order some tile sealer that was almost double the cost of the tiles I was to return). I was then told on the phone I wasn’t allowed to return them due to not being within 30 days. I was not told this in store when the shop assistant said I could return them previously. I was 2 weeks past this date. I was also planning to spend another £1500 on bathroom tiles which we are refurbishing in May and thought I would start looking in store again for my next lot of tiles. How short sighted of them. For the sake of about £30, they have now lost another large sale and I’ll go elsewhere. Hope they can reflect on their business strategy.
Update. In response to your reply - the point I’m making is I was not told I had to return the tiles within a short time / 30 day period. Due to this, some flexibility should have been given on principle especially as I was asking to exchange for some tile sealant not a direct refund. Just to note veining and the cracks running through the tile front to back are two different things.

The Calacatta Amber marble you purchased is a natural stone and the markings you identified as deep cracks were, on inspection, natural quartz veining within the stone. We explained this at the time and, despite the material not being defective, offered to exchange all six pieces as a gesture of goodwill. The quickest way to facilitate the exchange was by bringing goods from our head office into our Marlow store, just a few miles from your home.
During your visit, you requested an additional piece so that you could select the veining you preferred. As you had already received a full six-piece exchange, this additional tile was correctly offered for purchase rather than given free of charge.
More importantly, when you later contacted us to return the replacement tiles, this was more than six weeks after the exchange and approximately two and a half weeks outside our 30-day returns period. Our colleague explained this policy and, while we fully sympathised with the personal circumstances you mentioned, we were unable to make an exception.
Our returns policy is in place to ensure that we apply the same terms fairly and consistently to all customers. We are sorry that this has led to disappointment, particularly as you were considering a further substantial purchase.
However, we cannot reasonably accept that declining a return outside the stated period represents poor business strategy or a lack of customer care.
Throughout this matter, we have endeavoured to assist, including offering a full exchange of material that we had confirmed was not defective. We hope you are pleased with your completed project, and should you change your mind regarding your next, our team would be happy to assist you.

Delivery company driver was a bit tricky. The gent was very polite but kerbside front door is literally it. I asked if he would deliver round the back (Lorries with drags regularly use it) and there was no chance. He informed me there was no where for him to turn if he went down there....what would I know, I only live there and know there is a large yard where Lorries with drags and artics turn.

Tiles are beautiful...but...
Tiles are beautiful. But...
My first lot arrived smashed to bits, over half a box damaged. They had come taped to a pallet with the box falling apart - far too weak for the weight of the Tiles. Mandarin resolved this promptly via webchat and sent replacements, but they are slightly different in colour despite my giving the batch number. I did have to upload images which was fair enough but also had to delay my tiler which was annoying. The replacements arrived fine.
I then ordered more of the same tiles and requested on the phone that they be sent securely; arrived via DHL with a massive hole in one of the boxes but thankfully all intact! The tiles themselves are beautiful and just what I wanted.
So a star off for the inconvenience and mismatched batch but overall customer service was good and I love the tiles.
