Wasn't sure what the issue was, damp or draft. Home Energy Save provided a free survey to help identify the problem. I expected an expensive job would be needed but Stephen (the surveyor) identified the issue and as well as being friendly and helpful, identified the issue and suggested how to resolve it and without using them, advising it would be relatively cheap to fix using a local handyman. I really appreciated the service provided and no hard selling. Thank you Stephen.

I’m very happy to give Home Energy Save GB a five star rating for the excellent work done by the team. A small problem occurred during the installation process of the membrane in my loft. However, this was dealt with promptly and with admirable professionalism by some of the most experienced and helpful people I have encountered in this part of the country. We recently had a survey carried out by Home Energy Save regarding potential penetrating/rising damp, and I must say the experience was exceptional from start to finish - the surveyor, Steve Island was outstanding from the moment he arrived - polite, extremely helpful, highly knowledgeable, and clearly someone who takes immense pride in his work.

He conducted an incredibly thorough inspection of the entire property, both internally and externally, with a variety of tools and equipment ensuring he fully understood and accurately diagnosed the situation - he must have spent a good hour assessing everything in detail, even going so far as to inspect the loft space and seek a second opinion via video call to confirm his findings.

Having had a rather unfortunate experience with a landscaping contractor last year, this was a refreshing contrast - the level of professionalism and care shown by Home Energy Save was truly impressive. What stood out in particular was Steve’s honesty; rather than encouraging immediate, costly works, he suggested a number of sensible measures we could undertake first and advised monitoring the situation before committing to anything further - which, in my experience, is quite the opposite of what many companies tend to do.

As we do not have a loft ladder, Steve even offered to retrieve or store anything for us whilst he had access, which I thought was a genuinely thoughtful, above-and-beyond gesture - he even mentioned that if we passed him a damp cloth, he would clean the loft hatch before replacing it, as it was covered in dust, cobwebs, and the usual assortment of “creepy crawlies”, which he duly did without hesitation.

I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Home Energy Save, and in particular surveyor Steve - a thoroughly deserved 10/10.

I recently had a survey carried out by Ste Critchley from Home Energy Save regarding possible cavity wall insulation.
Before Ste visited, a couple of other companies had already looked at the property and quoted for the work, suggesting it was required. Ste, however, carried out a proper and thorough survey and explained that in our case cavity wall insulation was not actually needed.
I really appreciated the honesty. It would have been very easy for someone to simply go ahead with the work, especially after others had already quoted for it, but Ste was completely straightforward and professional throughout.
There was no pressure, no sales pitch — just honest advice, which was genuinely refreshing.
A great example of integrity and professionalism. I would happily recommend Ste and Home Energy Save to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy surveyor.

We had a damp proof course, clouding and PIV fitted. From start to finish, my experience with Home Energy Save has been brilliant. The service throughout was excellent.
Jack, the surveyor, came out to carry out the initial checks. He was very thorough, explained the problem clearly, and provided a solution that made sense. I also spoke with Andy about my specific needs, and the company was very accommodating and understanding.
The workmen, Alex and Ben, were amazing. They were professional, explained everything they were going to do, answered all of my questions, and were very considerate of my needs as I am disabled. They didn’t rush the work and made sure everything was done properly. They also cleaned and tidied up afterwards and checked that I was completely satisfied with the job.
They even came back on a second day as that worked better for my needs, which I really appreciated.

Following the survey for penetrating damp, the remedial work was completed by Ross/Adam/Jake. Taking the plaster off the walls obviously created a lot of dust, but everything was covered. They were respectful of my property and cleaned up before they left. The plastering was an excellent job.

Sam was lovely and welcoming as soon as she came into evaluate the extent of the issue. She was also very informative, explaining everything in great depth. Sam was overall wonderful! Definitely recommend her!

I recently had a mould and damp inspection carried out, and I couldn't be more impressed with the service. Although Sam the surveyor was about 15 minutes late (due to traffic), she called ahead to keep me informed, which I really appreciated.
From the moment she arrived, she was incredibly respectful, even asking if I’d like her to remove her shoes before entering. The inspection itself was exceptionally thorough. She used a variety of specialised tools and equipment, taking the time to explain exactly what each one did. I actually learned a lot about my own home during the process!
What stood out most was her knowledge and transparency:
* Expert Advice: She clearly identified the areas needing attention and provided practical solutions for each.
* Reassurance: She gave me total peace of mind that the issues were fixable, which was a huge relief.

Sam Deakin attended the inspection for damp noticed on an inside gable end wall.
The equipment used was extensive and impressive and we quickly found the various problems and they were clearly pointed out to me and what needed to be done to full rectify the problems.
A clear quotation for the various areas of work was given and payments for the work over a period if necessary.
An impressive guarantee was also there for any work done.
Impressive information on the clearance of mould particles appearing in the rooms affected was given showing the use of a machine which the company had developed for detection purposes.
All in all a very well run survey by Sam as their surveyor.

I cant stress enough to steer clear!
We learnt hard way.

We wish we'd never heard of them !
No communication, no customer care, no consideration, no concern, and absolutely no urgency or understanding of a customers distress.
To cut a very long story short (very difficult to do over a six month saga !) .....
A site survey took place on 13/06 and lasted eight hours ! All very friendly but on reflection more resembled the actions of an insurance salesman with numerous closure techniques employed.
The requested preparatory work was carried out by ourselves to the letter.
The work was carried out on 16-17/07 - a DPC gel injected in the mortar course at the top of the first layer of breeze blocks (215mm). We were subsequently advised by our bathroom fitter / tiler that this was too high and would cause bridging issues when plastered.
This was reported to HES on 25/07 and "Customer Care" agreed that there would be bridging issues and would take the matter up with the fitters and his superiors.
After numerous chasers we were eventually contacted by the chief fitter (Luke Inward) on 21/08 who advised that we told the fitters to install the DPC at the higher level (why would we tell the "experts" to do that ?); that the block work was not exposed at the time of the survey (yes it was): and that our blocks were of an unusually large size (no, they're pretty standard at 440mm L x 100mm W x 215mm H).
A further period of chasing with no reply followed before we were advised on 09/09 that a fitter would be sent out to carry remedial work.
A third fitter came on 19/09 and inserted cut down rods directly into breeze block at a height of 50mm. When we queried whether this would result in a DPC fit for purpose we were told it would and that 50mm was the correct height. It is for external walls, but not for internal walls and certainly not directly into breeze block which we raised with HES again and asked why the rods had been cut down.
Another period of chasing with no reply followed and it wasn't until we threatened legal action (10/10) that we were contacted by "Retro Fitter" Kevin Duffy (16/10) who visited on 22/10 to carry out an "Assessment". The extensive (two line) report was received on 24/10 but a fourth fitter didn't visit until 14/11.
On 14/11 the fitter inserted full length (180mm) DPC rods into the originally used mortar line (210mm high) and applied a "damp inhibitor and a mould eradicator chemical" slurry to the bottom course of breeze block. Unfortunately by inserting full length rods the fitter drilled straight through into the adjoining bedroom, utility room, and kitchen destroying the plaster work in these rooms and leaving approx 80mm of rod sticking out !
A cynic could say that this was a deliberate, malicious act of vandalism but we'll give them the benefit of doubt that it was just accident. However, at the very least you'd expect a DPC installer to know the width of the clients walls before installing the rods and makes you question their general competence in all matters.
Following yet more unanswered chasers we finally got reply from Mr Duffy on 27/11 asking for suitable dates to visit and we provided three dates by return. A visit wasn't forthcoming !
After a further period of inactivity and being fobbed culminating in threats to pursue legal action we were finally visited by a second "Retro Fitter" Steve and following his recommendations a third and fourth visit for remedial was scheduled (15/01 and 23/01).
We then asked for compensation for the length of time taken and the damage caused and were advised that because the remedial work had been successful (at the third and fourth time of asking) they would not be entertaining any claim for compensation. The only department that appears to work efficiently is the Legal Department - obviously it has had lots of practise !
If nothing was wrong with the initial works why did both "Retro Fitters" sanction remedial action ?!?
How can self acclaimed experts in their field make so many errors and then when they carry out remedial work it creates more damage than it is supposedly remedying, and why does it take six months to achieve this unsatisfactory outcome, and with no recourse.
Finally, they proudly advertise "40+" years of experience but were only incorporate in 2023 - why ?
Don't touch them with a barge pole !
