Gems of China
George Pu was an amazing guide. His expertise in organising our group was sensational. He shared his extensive knowledge with us and had an engaging personality and sense of humour. He was very caring and truly made us feel part of his family. It was good to have local guides giving their input. The hotels were great and we enjoyed the variety of transport we used. We were very well fed and our guides gave us good explanation of the food dishes. every day was action packed and exceeded our expectations. We learnt a lot about China and it’s history. we would definitely recommend this company and the Gems of China tour.

Excellent experience booking my China Tour on October
Excellent experience booking my forthcoming China trip with Wendy Wu Tours.
A big thank you to Zoe and Bella for being incredibly helpful and responsive throughout all my inquiries and the booking process. Special mention to Zoe, who went above and beyond to accommodate me as a walk-in client. She patiently assisted in organising my flights and accommodation and made the whole process seamless and stress-free.
Their professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care gave me confidence in choosing Wendy Wu for this trip. Looking forward to an amazing China adventure in October!
Fascinating itinerary which included…Lhasa, Tibet, Great Wall, Chengdu, Xian,
Fascinating itinerary which included Lhasa in Tibet. Visited many of the iconic sites across China travelling in all forms of transportation. Fortunate to be part of a wonderful group of experienced travellers led by a National tour guide with immense knowledge and competence. He guided his flock with apparent ease, aided by local guides, due to their high levels of preparation.
Extremely well-organised
Extremely well-organised, and mostly ran like clockwork.
Very full-on itinerary, with not much free time, but it had to be done.
Magnificent China is highly recommended.
Fabulous Grand Tour of China with Wendy Wu
We had a fabulous tour with Wendy Wu. We went on the 2nd at Grand Tour of China and everything about the tour was exceptional. The itinerary, the hotels, the food and ten organisation were excellent. In particular the tour lead (Cathy) from Wendy Wu was terrific; nothing was too much trouble and she went out of her way to make sure the tour was enjoyed by everyone.

We specifically chose this holiday for the train journey as well as seeing Orangutans in their natural habitat.
The content of the holiday was mostly good, although parts of it were very disappointing.
If I've not mentioned anything then it was per the comprehensive itinerary. I have only mentioned the parts we were not satisfied with.
We were not allowed to choose our British Airways seats until 24 hours before departure unless we paid considerably over £100, per person, per flight.
Upon trying to check in all seats were taken, so we still could not choose them.
I phoned W.W.'s emergency contact to to told: “There was nothing he could do as it was Saturday, arrive early at the Airport & sort it out with B.A.” Which we did, to find that B.A. had allocated us seats, but on different sides of the plane, both sitting next to strangers for almost a 14 hour flight.
Again on our internal flight from Kuala Lumper to Penang we were sat next to strangers.
The transfer from Penang Airport was considerably over 30 minutes late arriving to collect us.
After having now been in transit for over 18 hours the uncertainty of will our transfer actually arrive was not needed.
Penang was interesting, the hotel & food were good & everything followed the itinerary.
Kuala Lumpur was again interesting, also with a good hotel & food.
On the evening of day 7 our Guide gave us the following days briefing for our visit to Malacca, but the return train journey was not mentioned, obviously this was queried & an apology
“For forgetting” was given by our Guide. Alarm bells instantly rang with my wife & myself!
There was very little to see in Malacca apart from shops & we were given much too much free time. There was ample time to visit the “Hands-on Chinese-paper cutting workshop” listed in our itinerary, but we did not. Having been given all of this free time it was blatantly obvious we would struggle to catch the train back to Kuala Lumper.
We arrived at the station & had not even gone through the entrance barrier before our train arrived, so obviously we were not allowed to enter the platform therefore missing the train.
No explanation was given why we had left Malacca without sufficient time to catch the train, although it was obvious the previous day we would not be returning to K.L. by rail.
The highlight of our holiday was to have been our visit to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. This experience was extremely disappointing, although we do not blame W.W. directly, it appears the whole visit is just a fund raising exercise by the Centre.
Our local guide was excellent & we were at the front of the feeding platform before a Ranger appeared from the Forest with a basket of food, followed by an Orangutan which promptly disappeared into the jungle.
Another Orangutan climbed down an adjoining tree carrying a baby. This Orangutan soon ate what she wanted before climbing back up the tree out of sight.
We were then taken to the Nursery where we viewed several young Orangutans playing the other side of a glass screen, which was nice, but this can be seen in several Zoos throughout the World, including England.
On our walk back along the raised boardwalk one of our group caught a glimpse of an Orangutan in the Forest, but as the view was obscured by two security guards demanding we keep walking, most of us did not see anything.
Although Borneo was interesting & the people charming we would not have considered visiting the Country had we realised this was all we would see of the Orangutans.
Singapore totally followed the itinerary & our Guide again excellent, but the Mercure hotel room was abysmally small, with a small bed, nowhere to put our bags, no chairs to sit on & a pre-fabricated, opaque glass shower & toilet, both of which were see-through.
To summarise; had we realised what the actual content of this holiday would be, we would not have booked it.
Overall an excellent, once in a lifetime experience.
Overall excellent, a fantastic experience, if very tiring. But this is to be expected from a whistle stop tour of China's 'greatest hits'.
Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. They always kept the group together, even in challenging situations. They made sure we got to things on time. They were always informing my wife of what was okay to eat. We’re really glad they’d had some briefing on our disabilities and how they took that into account.
Seeing the Terracotta warriors and pandas was brilliant as was the Summer palace and the Great Wall- a once in a lifetime experience. I'd recommend going around Shimizu in Japan. They know when the cruise comes in and usually have a mini festival on around the shrines and museums. The local guides speak good English, are friendly and knowledgeable.
Minor niggles- avoid the Ali-Pay app. We couldn't get it too work and pretty much everywhere accepts cash. Please also be careful of the hard sell- especially at the Jade Factory. Also be aware that there are no internet cafes on the cruise and the standard of English can be sometimes be poor, even at customer service.
Overall though an excellent, once in a lifetime experience.
Wendy Wu Gems of China
I want to call out Michael the national guide for the excellent work he did to make this an enjoyable holiday and in addition, the local tour guides. We covered a lot of miles and experienced the best of China!
A very special, scenic area of SW China
We've just returned from this amazing adventure (18/5 - 3/6) Thirteen lovely people in our group.
Joe was our excellent guide with loads of clear and concise info put on our Whatapp group. He was very friendly, helpful and organised. Also the local guides were also excellent and engaging.
We had two excellent buses - comfortable and spacious and the roads were excellent and none of the journeys too long.
Hotels also a very high standard, modern and spacious and all had kettles & hairdryers.
Many places have Western toilets but not everywhere unfortunately...
Loved the atmosphere and winding scenic streets of Lijiang and Dali - everywhere on the trip was very clean and safe.
The Tiger Leaping Gorge and Snow Mountain were magnificent as was the visit to Jizhaigou NP and the stunning blue pools, lakes and waterfalls.
In Kunming and then Emeishan I fully recommend both optional shows - brilliant entertainment. Also there's a Tibetan show (all approx £30)
The meals were always a group banquet style meal - both lunch and evening at tables with a 'lazy Susan' They were plentiful and with optional chillies/spices to add. I can't eat anything with chillies and managed. Only negative comment is we often ate in our hotel or some hotel 'private dining room' which was very characterless but the food was always good.
Trainers with good grip are suitable for all activities and poles only necessary if wet as all paths/steps were solid. I would however mention this holiday involved literally hundreds of steps on several occasions (often at altitude) so get in training!
Also a lot of walking in airports and stations as they are vast.
There are quite a few added extra costs for cablecars/buses/taxis, shows and group tipping fund - all can be done on Alipay.
The weather was 25°/30° so shorts and sleeveless nearly all the time, just warmer clothes for altitude on two occasions.
Alipay is available everywhere but for smaller amounts it's more convenient to just use cash.
Learn to use Google Translate - VERY useful for conversing with the locals :)
Passports are taken by the guide for all attractions to get tickets and have to be shown at railways and various other places.
This trip was amazing and a truly great experience with so many wonderful sights - fully recommended.
Ancient China
Amazing tour of Chinese culture and history. Everything taken care of. Excellent guides. Good food.
We regretted booking this holiday.
I was requested by F***** to enter a review on our recent trip with Wendy Wu to Malaysia, Borneo & Singapore, this being our fourth Wendy Wu holiday, but regrettably their website would not publish the review which follows.

Very disappointing response post holiday
We travelled as a group of 4 ppl for the 8 Nt India's Tigers & Golden Triangle Tour with Wendy Wu Tours. This was part of a 3-week holiday, with the tour first followed by a 12-day cruise.
This was one of the most disappointing holidays I have experienced. During the trip I became seriously ill with gastrointestinal symptoms and required medical treatment, including IV fluids. Several members of our organised group also became unwell around the same time.
The illness resulted in a significant portion of my holiday being lost, including periods of isolation in my cabin. While I appreciate that illness can occur when travelling, I was disappointed by the way my complaint was handled afterwards.
Following my return, I provided details of my experience and supporting evidence. The compensation offered did not, in my view, fairly reflect the disruption and loss of enjoyment suffered, and I therefore declined it.
I can only comment on my own experience, but based on what happened, I would not choose to book with Wendy Wu Tours again

Enchanting China tour
Enchanting China tour. A fantastic eye opening tour starting in Beijing and ending in Shanghai. It encompassed all the main sites that didn’t disappoint. Too many highlights and impossible to pick just one from the Great Wall, Terracotta Army, Pandas, bullet trains and Shangai. Throughout our tour we were constantly cared for by George Pu and ably assisted by the local guides Mi, Jenny and Darcy. Nothing was too much trouble for George throughout the tour and he ensured we learnt about his beloved China.

Wonderful experience from start to finish ,Nancy our main tour guide and her fellow colleagues were outstanding.
We were on a China tour to the Great Wall ,Terracotta warriors ,Talisman Square ,Bullet train ,with additional points of interest, finishing at Shanghai then onward to a cruise round Japan .
Wendy Wu to be honest I’d never heard of ,they would be our guide on the China leg ,we knew it would be extremely busy experience although unsure how it would work .
From the airport at Bejing we were greeted by a member of staff taken to the first of three hotels where Nancy would take over and be goodness she did ,never away from ourselves with her guidance and knowledge, till we got onboard our Cruise,a gem of a woman .
Tours ,points of interest, accommodation and food ,excellent.
Wonderful experience,put at ease throughout
