Purchased a Total Gym a few weeks ago and I have been very impressed with the quality of the equipment and the sheer number of workout routines possible from one piece of kit.

I’m a relatively new owner of a Total Gym Elevate ADJ as of December 2020, having been well used to somewhat bespoke gym training kit in the form of Versa Climber and (for the last 10 years) a Skier’s Edge. I’m no longer a spring chicken, and now wanted something different to the standard rowing machines that had really good commercial quality for all users in the household and importantly would last the distance, as I’ve chewed-up other gear designed principally for domestic users as simply as it can’t withstand regular day-in day-out use.

Make no bones about it, the Elevate ADJ is in no way a Mickey-Mouse piece of kit; it is very substantive and way, way above the c. £300 to £700 or so rowers that are readily available via the Internet and which I find are pretty flimsy and poorly engineered. It is by comparison very heavy and comes in huge packaging – have that in mind if you want to store it for a while or need to get it upstairs without un-boxing !

The instructions offer that it is a two-person job to get it set up, though if you’re quite savvy and not short of a bit or wherewithal, it’s do-able on your own.

Throughout the buying experience I was in touch with Andy Gill of Ethics Leisure who are UK suppliers of Total Gym equipment, and the help and assistance I received was bang on the money and second to none. Andy forwarded the specs and details and the instruction manual before I decided to make a purchase and talked me through all manner of queries I had. He then emailed set-up videos which made it really quick and easy to get the Elevate ADJ up and running.

There will inevitably be those who will never be dissuaded from the Concept 2 rower as the pinnacle of rowing machines. I’ve done these as well, and whilst good, to be fair they’re pretty much a one-trick pony. The Elevate ADJ is a different animal, don’t be mistaken; and gives a much different and varied level and suite of exercises. Check out the videos on YouTube, but note that you will come across an earlier model of the Elevate rower that is foldable and, I understand, not a UK market item. This has only two positions to raise the seat/rail system, unlike the ADJ, and is distinguishable by two rear struts/legs. It also appears a little shorter in overall length (??). Both are shown on the Total Gym web site.

In the early weeks of use the Elevate ADJ is really smooth and quiet in operation, and simplicity itself. There are a range of example exercise videos on YouTube which are worthwhile checking out, and I have found keeping your feet tight against the middle section and flat against the sole plates, well sat back in the seat (which is sculptured and not padded) is a good way to start off building technique, remembering that your feet are not restrained on this machine.

It’s not cheap and it’s not tat, but there may be deal to be had ? For me it is an absolutely great piece of kit that can accommodate rangy folk to teenagers. Brilliant.

Purchased the Total Gym XLS and was blown away buy the build quality of this machine. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it is. If your thinking of buying one and not sure to make the commitment let me set your mind at rest, you wont be disappointed. Great response from the company from start to finish. I couldn’t be happier.

I had one of the older TG models some time ago but had to get rid of it because I was moving home and didn't have the space. I loved it though. Wind on 20 years and I realised that now that I am 58 years old it would be a good idea to introduce some resistance work into my work out routine. I ummed and ahhed about whether to get a reformer or a Total gym and decided to go for the XLS because having worked on a reformer a lot in the past I always felt that the Total Gym had the edge in terms of building upper body strength because of the variety of levels you can use for the glide board to increase or decrease resistance.
I opted for the XLS which comes with a small squat/foot board and single leg pulley system but also chose to order the large squat board and the double leg pulley system. I did that because from my previous machine I always felt that the size of the standard foot/board was too small and with the double leg system there is a huge variety of additional exercises that you can do to build not just strength but mobility. I have to say that whereas I think the XLS is fantastic value for money, the accessories do not come cheap.
I am delighted with the XLS though. Its a brilliant piece of equipment that enables me to go from one exercise into another to create a flowing workout and after just a week I am already feeling the benefits and the larger squat stand and double leg system are brilliant. I loved the old machine that I had but the XLS looks and feels like a huge improvement.
There was a hiccup with my delivery in that the system was sent to my billing address as opposed to the shipping address. The company were hugely apologetic about this administrative error though and did everything they could to put things right. Because I am not new to the Total Gym system I was able to get moving on it right away. I really do think its a fantastic piece of equipment and I am so glad I chose it over a reformer for my needs. If you are new to it there is also an enormous amount of free videos available from Total Gym and on YouTube to show you how to get started.

Great Service. Received my machine the next day. Its just perfect if you have the space for it. You dont have to worry about Covid or the Lockdown you can still get your workout and believe me its not easy i start sweating in 5 minutes.. Highly recomend.

Ordered replacement wheels for my 20 year old original Total Gym unit and they promptly sent a replacement. Very patient and helpful - would thoroughly recommend and use again
