Mark, I have found your material to be excellent! (I really can't think of a better term). Being a guitar player for 30+ years and switching to bass out of necessity, I fell in love with it and have enjoyed the learning experience through your tutorials and materials.

Mark Smith is a prolific bassist and teacher ! You will become the same following his courses that are easy to understand , detailed , build on each other in a proper manner while always prepping you for the next step . Most excellent !

I gladly second all 5 stars reviews - I tried out two other leading online bass tutorial sites, but Marc does it best ... excellent teaching covering all the bases and bringing examples from all styles of music - from classic music to mellow walking bass lines up to shredding Death Metal .... no one else does that

TalkingBass is 1 of several online resources I use to progress in my learning/practicing. I don’t have a favorite, but use each to reinforce the basics, each with a different angle. I like Mark’s direct approach without too much jibber jabber, yet getting the “why this works” music theory included. I also enjoy the occasional bits on classical pieces like Bach and Widor, cuz I’m a classical nerd and they are great for practicing technique.

I am an older bass player and took it up later in life. I play in a band with my brothers just for fun. Talkingbass has improved my technique and my understanding of music. Everyone can get something out of these tutorials. I will probably never will be really good at my age, but I can be better. progress not perfection. Thanks Mark. Keep up the good work.

This is excellent. I've been playing many years but still learn something new. I've bought the Basic Fundamentals and Chord Tone Essentials courses. The material is clear and concise. Mark has obviously put in many hours of effort with the site, courses, and all the free seminars and videos. Worth every penny.

A lot of good material and motivating videos. Worth every cent I paid years ago. Mark let me play basslines I never dared without his help.

Excellent material and well presented. One tiny criticism is that the lessons might benefit from a few close up views of both left and right hands especially during more difficult pieces.

I started playing bass not 8 months ago, at the age of 36, without ever having played any instrument before (i dabbled a little with a harmonica but that's all) and without a single musician in my surroundings. Mark's been my only teacher and I am, thanks to him, about to have my first bass gig in a month, which will be followed by recording an album! My bass lines are, admittedly, fairly simple, but functional and nice nevertheless.
I've taken a look at pretty much all other popular bass learning websites, but none come even remotely close to what Mark does.
Thanks for introducing me to the magical world of music, and for making me look so cool now that I play bass!

for all the lessons. Obviously some are more useful for me than other. But this is a valuable material.

I love this site! As a very new bass player, I find lots and lots of information here, and it's full with practice tips and tricks too. My playing started here, and I love the clear teaching. No bull..., all nice bite-size lessons, just enough to learn a lot and not go crazy.
