Sunpass does NOT care about its customers
Issue was a low balance on one of our accounts that is set up to auto-replenish. The email sent in Sept 2025 subject line showed Low Balance Notification. It didn't register with me at the time that the credit card had expired, I just assumed it was the normal alert and the account would auto-replenish. (In the past I received an email that the subject line showed Sunpass Account: Credit Card Decline - Action Required which I of course took care of immediately.) So here we are 5 months later March 2026, I receive a statement in the regular mail of 2 months worth of toll violations between December and February showing over $98 owed. Immediately went into the local Sunpass office to see what went wrong. They said the credit card expired. The current balance due was now over $128 and they offered NO solution. Went ahead and paid because they gave me no choice, and then tried to resolve through calling Sunpass Customer Service. Agent listened and acted understanding and then was transferred to a supervisor who did NOTHING. Blamed it on us for not keeping up on the bank account (it was a credit card account that had been skimmed fraudulently and we had to get a replacement). Instead of a phone call, text, or alert email, they waited 5 months to mail us an invoice so they could obviously rack up toll charges! We have been Sunpass customers for 25 years and this is how they treat us. Very poor customer service. No wonder 96% reviews show one star.
Sun Pass ignores proof of rental car return
I have a transponder and rented a vehicle on FL. I added the plate to my account. I was charged for tolls after having returned the rental car. I removed the plate from my account the day after returning the car and provded proof of the return. They would not revese the tolls for the day because the plate was removed from the account the following day even though they see the proof of the rental return. Sun Pass is just plain stupid. I will no longer add the rental car plate to my account so I can not be charged for someone elses tolls.
Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service. Do not explain the issue clearly; can’t hold more then 2 min online even when explained that I need some min to find information they requested. Seriously? This is a joke. Very rude and unprofessional.

This is such a scam! They don't inform you when you purchase and activate pass that if you travel through another providers toll it will not work until the next day.
Government-owned monopoly
Government-owned electronic toll collection that is why they can do what ever they please. If this was a company they would be sued and bankrupt. You cant even pay your toll the system auto rejects the payment.

It’s time SunPass gets sued. How do you have the audacity to kick off vehicles because you owe on vehicle already registered with a mini pass. I paid up all my fees and even bought new mini pass and my account was no longer in the negative. I was driving my new car that I just bought mini pass for thinking it was registered cause I put a large amount to cover all three of my vehicles. No email nor text messages were sent to say that the newly registered vehicles were kicked off because of past due fees. I’m tired of this bullying and unexplained fees accumulated for months. I travel for work and I have to use SunPass areas but I do not think that I owe $500 worth of fees. I am going to start a petition and new laws need to be passed for SunPass use.

This company is simply horrible. They’ve been charging me for their tools for months even though I canceled my account with them a long time ago and switched to another company. Every time I try to call to understand what’s going on, they NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE!!! I have never been able to speak to anyone there.
I am being scammed by Sunpass
I am being scammed by Sunpass. They sent an invoice to me for unpaid tolls and showed a pickup truck on the invoice. My license plate is for my 2014 black Honda Accord. Clearly a mistake and even though I sent photographic evidence of this fact they simply said they don't make mistakes and won't investigate or help. Obviously, I want to get this resolved so that they don't keep charging me for some other person's tolls and hit me with huge late fees. Seems like massive mistakes from their AI computer vision system with no validation and no accountability. Huge wait times on their 800 customer service number make impossible to make progress. So terrible.

On 10/23/25, I contacted customer support regarding a violation notice where the amount charged appeared incorrect. The representative agreed to a specific payment of $6.96 to settle the outstanding balance in full, which I paid immediately during the call.
Subsequently, SunPass issued another invoice for $1.16 plus a $2.50 administrative fee for the same incident. When contacted again, representatives stated they could not waive this new administrative fee despite my previous agreement with their agent.
This demonstrates a lack of continuity and system functionality within their customer resolution process. While the monetary amount is small, this process failure likely affects many users. I recommend other users keep detailed records of every interaction, including the names of representatives and call dates, when disputing charges."

Scammers
For the past year and a half I was paying fast lane tolls and they previously stated to me that I was exempt because of the EV benefit. The senate passed a bill 1662 on July 1, 2025 to cut those benefits but I was auto paying way before that.
Sunpass stated they had no knowledge of this benefit and that was with the DMV.
These people sound like straight scammers as I requested credit for those months and they stated we don’t do that.
When I requested to speak to a supervisor they stated they were not available to speak pertaining to this conversation. (Sounds like a scammer/mafia to me.)

Also so etwas wie bei einem Sunpass habe ich mein leben noch nie erlebt. Einen ganzen Vormittag verschwendet nur um einen Sunpass zu aktivieren.
Mit einem Handy was nicht in den USA registriert ist , ist es nicht möglich sich anzumelden! Website funktioniert nicht und App kann man nicht downloaden. Registrierung nur vor Ort im Kundencenter möglich, Sucht man dieses Center ist es an einem alten Standort und der neue wurde nicht aktualisiert. Somit 2 Stunden in da Orlando im Kreis gefahren. Vor Ort das selbe spiel, ca. 35min bis man die Anmeldung durch hat.
Also falls sich wer für Sunpass entscheidet (was nicht anders möglich ist) nehmt euch einen Vormittag Zeit.
Traurig so etwas für eine Mautgebühren auf sich nehmen zu müssen. Wenn es möglich wäre dann 0 Sterne. Und wir waren nicht die einzigen die dieses Spektakel auf sich nehmen mussten. Im Kundencenter waren ca.12 weitere Personen denen es so ergangen ist.

have never been more disappointed in a company than I am with SunPass. While this is not directed at the individual representatives I’ve spoken with, it is directed at the way this company operates. My license plate was stolen, and I immediately filed and submitted a police report. Despite doing everything required of me, I continue to receive bills for a vehicle that does not belong to me, connected to a temporary tag I only had for less than a week.
Over the course of this situation, I have spoken to multiple people and spent countless hours trying to get this resolved. Not once has SunPass provided me with clear communication, accountability, or a resolution. Instead, I was blindsided with an email informing me that the matter was simply “sent to collections” — a move that shows zero compassion, zero understanding, and zero willingness to actually investigate or assist.
This is completely unacceptable. Customers should never be punished for theft, especially when they have followed proper legal procedures and provided documentation. SunPass’s handling of this situation has been unprofessional and careless, and it reflects a larger problem in how the company treats the very people who keep it in business.
Here’s what needs to change:
• Accountability: Issues involving fraud or theft must be thoroughly investigated before sending accounts to collections.
• Communication: Customers deserve updates and explanations, not silence followed by debt collection notices.
• Compassion & Fairness: Policies must be put in place to protect innocent customers from being held responsible for charges they clearly did not incur.
Awful customer service
This afternoon I called customer service and I spoke with 2 people and they provided awful customer service and manners. The name of one of this person is Ana. I even told her that I was going to call again and report her with a manager and she said that she doesn't care. We spent a lot of money in this company daily and they don't even show good manners. I wonder if they don't need customers?

I am extremely disappointed with SunPass and their handling of my toll account. For months, SunPass has been withdrawing money daily from my account, supposedly to cover tolls. I trusted that they were doing their job and paying the correct toll agencies. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Despite consistent withdrawals from my SunPass account, my E-Pass tolls were never paid. As a result, E-Pass began sending invoices to my home for tolls I had already funded through SunPass. The situation worsened when those unpaid invoices eventually led to a court case, and I was forced to pay out of pocket, money I didn’t have for tolls that should have already been covered.
When I contacted SunPass about the issue, they refused to refund the money they had taken from my account, even though they clearly failed to transfer it to E-Pass. I provided all the documentation showing the daily deductions and the E-Pass invoices, and still, they did nothing.
This isn’t just bad service, this is negligence, and it feels like outright theft. They took my money and failed to do what they were supposed to do with it, and now I’m left dealing with court fees and a major financial loss.
I would strongly warn others to think twice before relying on SunPass. If you’re using them to manage tolls across agencies, be very careful. Check your statements constantly and confirm that payments are actually being made. I trusted SunPass and got burned.

Wasted 2hrs trying to get this to work and still haven't managed it.
Only works if you have USA phone number (shit for tourists).
Even if you mess around getting a US phone number it still doesn't accept payment. Just constant error messages on app and website. Tried calling customer service but over 30min wait to speak to someone (can't afford that calling from the hotel room).
This SunPass crap is such a let down and an embarrassment for Florida. Completely detrimental to tourists from other countries. It's really put us off coming back. Something that should be so easy is just a complete time wasting joke. Messing up our whole trip because we can't use the damn roads. I'd just pay $100 up front as soon as I arrived to avoid this level of hectic frustrating bullshit. Just wasting my time sat in a hotel room trying to get this crap to work when I want to be out enjoying the limited time we have here. Wish I had just paid Hertz for the toll card now instead. That's my advice for foreigners visiting. Just suck it up and pay the rental car companies if you value your time because this SunPass shit will just drain your time, energy, and mood.
which transponders have been discontinued?
Some of their transponders have been discontinued. I currently own 4 transponders for my car yet none of them apparently work. I keep getting billed by plate.
They do not show which transponders are valid and which are not. My only option is to buy a new transponder which never seems to reach me. Typical government programming - it just doesn't work.

Miami Dade county Florida SUNPASS is stealing customers money and sending them threatening letters in the mail saying they owe This has happened to me more than once. I Rarely take expressways Like maybe 3 times in a month And when I do it's not far at all. I keep it Closeby. I just got my SUNPASS invoice email today saying I had $46 balance end of June . And today barely two weeks later I get a letter saying I ran out of money on my SUNPASS and I am in arrears $8. And I need to make a payment. Where did my almost $50 go ???? Where's my money????? I don't owe them nothing. This is Not true. I didn't use $46 in two weeks. I rarely use the expressways No one borrowed my car. No one uses it accept me. I'm the only one. They are stealing customers money and sending them letters saying they don't have any money on their SUNPASS and that they Owe them money in an attempt to Rob and steal from SUNPASS customers. This happened to me a few yrs ago too. I put $100 and two weeks later they said I was at zero balance. I only took the expressway twice. I called and called. I was so mad. I made complaints after complaints and I got no help at all. Also I still haven't got back the money they owe me from my old SUNPASS account.From 2020 until 2025 I didn't have a car. So they closed out my account so they say and they never refunded my money. They just give me the run around when I call. There needs to be a Class Action Lawsuit against them I'm going to research which lawyers to contact. This has to stop.
Corruption
I received an invoice for two charges with one photo that was blurred. I disputed it onlin ethrough their website, afterwards I received an response stating received with a request number staing someone would contact me within 2 business days, that was July 4,2025. On July 8, 2025, I called to follow up and spoke with a human who told me that the case was under review, and someone would contact me later that day but no later than the next day July 9,2025. I have not received any follow or follow through from Sun Pass. I did not pay the invoice because its false, instead I disputed it, the due date has passed and there's been no resolution. How is this even possible. Are there any attorney's that can take this matter and move it into federal court?
