If you open an account and try to get the "bonus money" be prepared to fight for it and file complaints with multiple agencies to get it. YOU decide if the fight is worth it. IN MY OPINION a fraud promising the "bonus" and then not giving it/. response: Thank you for reaching out to us. We have received your regulatory complaints. I did a mobile deposit on a $1000 check. It had a hold on it for 5 days (I needed access to the cash the day after the deposit, mind you). Today is day 5 and the money is still not there. I call customer service and they say that the hold has been extended to TEN DAYS!! Who does that? As soon as I withdraw my money, I’m closing the account. I’m telling everyone I know NOT to deal with this bank. This is frustratingly ridiculous!

I want to share my deeply disappointing experience with First Horizon Bank’s online account opening and closure process. After I voluntarily decided to close my newly opened account, First Horizon falsely reported me to ChexSystems with a “suspected fraud activity” designation.
This false report was entirely inaccurate — I have never had any fraud, overdrafts, or suspicious activity on my accounts. Despite initiating the account closure myself, First Horizon knowingly and unjustly flagged me, which caused my other bank accounts, including those at Fifth Third Bank, to be frozen. This led to significant financial disruption, inconvenience, and stress.
Although I contacted First Horizon multiple times, the inaccurate information was only removed from ChexSystems after I firmly confronted Christian Britt at First Horizon. The delay and poor handling of this serious matter are unacceptable.
I strongly urge First Horizon Bank to improve their internal processes to prevent wrongful reporting and to treat customers with the fairness and respect they deserve.

Horrible experience with website. Gray boxes to enter information are confusing. Website does not work with all browsers. Outdated information on website; no one used personal checks anymore to find routing number. Routing number is hard to find; had to do an Internet search. Change password process is a nightmare.

It has come to our attention that a female entrepreneur was informed she is considered "on top of the risk" for your bank, which implies that your institution is selectively choosing who among the Black community is eligible for loans. This perception is not only unfair but also highly discriminatory. This lady in question has a strong reputation for positively impacting lives within our community, and denying her a loan with such reasoning is both unjust and unfounded.
Moreover, I reviewed your bank’s official policies, and nowhere does it state that customers can be labeled in a manner that puts their business character at risk based on subjective assessments. This kind of treatment does not reflect the fair and inclusive banking practices that should be upheld.
As a result of this experience, I regret to inform you that I will be closing my mother’s account with your bank in the near future. It is disheartening to see such discrimination within a community institution that should support and foster financial growth for all its members equally.
I urge you to reconsider your approach and policies to ensure that all customers are treated with the respect and fairness they deserve. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.

I believe all the negative reviews. Memphs tn branch have untrained/unprofessional employees. they are trained in customer disservice anddo that well. No repeat business for me . Shut down the 4990 poplar branch in memphis, and expand when you have competent management. You had twice to show your fiduciary responsibility and intentionally failed both times. Why would i want to discuss your failure to address the situation again? Save your insincere response like you "care " about how your employees exploit the customers.

They will freeze your salary at your checking account, allowing $250 a week to be transferred to other banks. Avoid that bank.
Once you call them to increase your limit to access your own funds they will lie and ultimately deny your request:

I opened an account and a week later a promotion began, I talked to a male from the Cornelius location he was wonderful but he couldn’t help me because my account generated in Mooresville. He said it should not be a problem just let them know my situation well Jennifer was determined not to give me the bonus terrible energy! Kept saying she would call me and never did so I ended up revisiting the branch still nothing! Two weeks later excuse after excuse terrible customer service! I’m going to find a new bank!

This bank is by far the worst! I’ve been voicing my opinion(s) for at least 5 yrs…absolutely no follow up…very unprofessional! Though I may not be the easiest client to deal with, our money is your investment and I should be treated as we’re the paycheck at the end of the week! What a crappy financial institution!

I am in total disbelief of what has taken place on my elderly dad’s checking account. He had had a negative balance in his checking account numerous times in the last 6 mos., yet the bank has continued to pay items and then charge him a 35.00 NSF fee every time. His Social Security retirement income is automatically deposited into his checking account on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Finally this month he asked for my help. He said he had no money. When his money is deposited, it’s all gone. We called the customer service number for the bank and they said they couldn’t help us, and told me to contact the local branch. He had over 800.00 negative balance which included so many NSF fees. It took over half of his monthly deposit and left him with no way to pay all of his bills or even buy enough food for the month, no money for his medications, and nobody had notified him that this was consistently happened over the last 6 months. Is this even legal? He has
no credit line or overdraft protection. What is going on with this? There was also a problem with a bill pay entry on his account and 125.00 came out of his account. He went to check on it and they told him, they didn’t know what happened to the money. They could t find it. What the heck? I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone. My career was in banking and finance and I worked for BB&T for 20 years. I’ve read all the other reviews and my mind is blown! Why are they not suffering any repercussions for this predatory banking practices. Everyone needs to file a complaint with the CFPB. I certainly am. I was told by that government agency that is the route to go because multiple complaints on the same business prompts investigations. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) helps consumers by providing educational materials and accepting complaints. It supervises banks, lenders, and large non-bank entities, such as credit reporting agencies and debt collection companies. It’s simple to file a complaint on their website. Once they notify a business of the complaint, the business must answer to the bureau within a specified timeframe. I recently collected almost 2000. from interest that I shouldn’t have been charged. It does take time but it’s worth it. Action needs to be taken!

ZERO stars! Horrible experience. I would not use this bank ever again. I live in Florida and was selling a home in Tampa and purchasing a home in Jupiter. My mortgage advisor informed put me into a 7 year arm and told me I could reamortize my mortgage as soon as I paid the loan principal down when I sold my home in Tampa, which I did a month later. I put the proceeds into my principal at First Horizon and greatly paid down the principal and asked for my reduced payment. (It took over a week for the funds to be transferred into my mortgage even though I had the proceeds in another First Horizon checking account which they made me set up.) My advisor told me after working there 7 years, he never had anyone actually do that and after speaking with the bank management, it was their policy the customer had to wait 12 months before that was possible. He was "sorry." So I am paying 3x what my mortgage should be for 12 months. I was told I could get a small percentage off to refinance with them but the rates had gone up. I will be switching banks as soon as rates go down!

Long-term customer dealing with life-threatening medical issues and trying to get info and answers re my personal bank accounts at First Horizon. Customer service took no responsibility and "couldn't" help me, referred me to to the local Berclair branch.
The branch mgr Dimitria Farewell refused to answer any questions over the phone and insisted I come into the branch in person, which is difficult and painful. I asked to schedule an in-person appointment with her because I needed to make sure it wouldn’t be a wasted trip. Although she had my name and phone, she never called me back. And to top it off, my bank account officer for escalation is . . Dimitria Farewell! How convenient.
Made one final attempt with customer service, and Lawan was fairly helpful and able to answer some of my questions.
NOT recommended, customer service so-so, Berclair branch needs serious help.
4/15/25 UPDATE previous review
First Horizon Customer Solutions called me within a few days after I posted the original review. After a few phone calls over a couple of days, they were able to answer all my questions and make accommodations to address my disabilities. I appreciate their willingness to go the extra step on my behalf.
NOTE: I worked with the Customer Solutions group for resolution. My problems originated with the local Berclair branch.

I've seen the negative comments here but mine was different. They are my second bank after I switched from First South. So far, I haven't had any problems with them. The customer support I received were prompt and courteous, but then again the people I was talking to were my mom's friends. They even called me when there was an attempt to withdraw large amount of money in my bank account. However, I was using a VPN and forgot to turn it off and there was a daily $5,000 withdrawal limit that I have to remove.
My second credit card came from here where I was approved. I was approved for a Visa Signature with a high credit limit. It helps when you have a great credit score. I mainly go to the Bartlett, TN branch along Stage Rd and Bartlett Blvd.

I’ve been with FH for a while but it’s time to go. There was an issue of Walmart processing an order I cancelled and FH let the payment go through on a locked card. LOCKED. My account was left negative in over $100. You would think they would protect me as a customer but no, their money hungry selves did not even provide a provisional credit over something that was not my fault. My paycheck is coming and was for me to move and now I can’t move. Why???? Because I’m about to lose over $100 that first horizon is collecting due to them not resolving this issue. I even filed a dispute and they done nothing. They are trash and I’m tired. Going to a bank where I’ll be appreciated as a customer.

Worst bank ever. My son is out of state and has been trying to send me 3000 dollars and FA continues to deny the transaction. We’ve tried Walmart to Walmart, Western Union, Cash app and Zelle and each time it’s problem with the bank. We’ve called customer service on several occasions. At one point, they were able to allow a transaction only once but, he was still unable to send me any money. I really believe this bank is misappropriating people’s money. This is do not fair. I am in a crisis and trusted these people with our money and this is the service we get. My money is in my sons account, and I’m facing eviction bc the bank refuse to release his funds after knowing the transactions are valid. There has to be some sort of recourse for this behavior l.

Absolute worst bank I have ever worked with. They are a financial institution but somehow cannot get their Zelle working like every other bank and their Customer Support is worthless, completely ignorant and do not listen or attempt to understand the problem.

This financial institution does incompetent, unprofessional and illegal business . My mother Clara Moffitt did a power of attorney to gain access her now deceased husband accounts. Now they're refusing to allow her access since his passing to the accounts or speak with her. No type of communication what she needs to do to gain access to the accounts. He hasn't received statements in over 2 years. People don't do business with these thieves. Horrible that mother who is a senior got go through this unprofessional mess that they're rendering. Keep your lying rebuttal.

I had the worst experience at the Austin Peay branch in Memphis TN at 9:22 on 1/23/25. Teller refused to cash my check, and fake called the account holder to “verify” it. The representative smacked her lips and made rude comments before even looking at the document. I attempted to ask questions because understandably mistakes happen, and I have never had an issue cashing my payroll check. (I also had the check stub) I had to drive downtown to a different location where they had no issue. She told me that I need to stop preventing her from doing her job. She proceeded to ignore my questions, and talk over me as she took new guests in the drive through. She told me that the owner of the company had to call her to verify it, but the owner of the company I work for hires a payroll team and owns multiple businesses, I haven’t even met the man. Never in my life have I seen a teller act so rude, and lack of basic communication skills is a direct product of unqualified people working in a branch who could care less about customers . First horizon should hire more capable and professional people. The disrespect was equivalent to someone spitting in my coffee.
