Avoid the Era Touch Key

Era Touch Key
Would be excellent if it worked.
The Geo Location doesn’t work
The voice command only works for the first couple of days after fitting new batteries.
The thumb print works as long as it isn’t raining or cold. So great in the summer 😂
The app works but can take a long time to connect.
But on the bright side the override key works every time. So all in all a very expensive product that only partially works.
And to top it off I have to change the batteries every 2 weeks, I have now bought various makes of batteries but all last around 2 weeks.

Very disappointing but now having a complete new door fitted so back to good old key.
Very expensive mistake 😡

I am sorry that you have experienced issues with your TouchKey handle, and the inconvenience caused.

We have recently updated the ERA Smart Home app across both iOS and Android to resolve the issue with geolocation unlocking.

The fingerprint sensor is designed to work in various weather conditions, and if moisture is on the sensor, wiping in before pressing the sensor with a dry fingerprint should unlock the handle.

As long as good quality batteries are used, and usage of the handle, batteries will typically last between 6-8 months.

With the issues you have highlighed, it does look like we need to troubleshoot with you and see what can be done to resolve the issues.

Too many false alarms

Out of 4 nights with the alarm on the motion detector triggered a false alarm on 2 of them. Waiting to hear if ERA can suggest why this is. In the meantime the alarm is unusable.

As the sensor is a PIR motion sensor, there are a number of issues which could be causing the sensor to trigger, some of these could be that the sensor is faulty, or fluctuations in the temperature.

ERA miGuard SL2 Wireless Solar Siren not fit for purpose.

Purchased the ERA miGuard SL2 wireless Solar Siren, I had to return it as it was not fit for purpose.
1/ Exit delay can be set to 0-250 seconds but entry is fixed at 15 seconds which wasn't adequate time to disable it. I was told that if I purchased a Hub (£200) I could increase entry time but the Hub is not part of the advertised miGuard SL2 stand alone system.
2/ The Keypad beeps and flashes on exit but is completely dead when entering i.e no sound or flashing so you don't know if other members of your family have switched the alarm off or if it's on Home part set.
3/ Before I purchased the system I was informed it wouldn't arm if a door/window contact was left open. I tried setting it with a window contact open and it did set contrary to this information I was given. On contacting the help number I was instructed to remove the contact batteries for 30 minutes and if it set with window open they'd sent me a replacement contact. It still didn't work and I tried the other contacts and the alarm set with all door/windows open so there is a design fault in the alarm system. i.e. the sensors and Keypad can speak to the Siren/Control box but the Siren/Control box can't communicate back to the door/window contacts or keypad.
4/ The manual is very poor and lacks important information, if you want to delay a contact exit time or Fully set a PIR (it comes home set enabled apparently!), there is nothing in the manual to tell you this, I had to make several calls to the ERA helpline engineer for this information. There are very small jumper links that you need to enable/disable so you'll need to remove the PIR and Contacts to do this as its very fidgety. Lastly the Manual says the door contact magnet can be placed either side of the Door contact within 10mm, this is not the case it works 10mm on one side but only 2mm on the other so had to remove and fit the contact upside down.
Forgot to mention don't send them emails, they either ignore them or take 3 days to respond.

Before I purchased your SL2 kit I contacted your pre-sales team and was informed I could change the entry/exit times as this was “a stand alone burglar alarm system”. After I had installed the system I contacted your company again (technical advisor John) to find out how to alter the entry time as the manual only mentioned how to alter the exit time. At this point I was told I would have to pay an addition £200 for a Hub to do this.
Another important reason not to buy a ERA alarm system, although your pre sales team and technical team told me you can’t arm the system with a door/window contact open (even with an additional Hub installed) this is simply not true, it will arm with doors/windows open as I discovered.
I found this information on your website in the FAQ section, I suggest you get you pre-sales team and technical advisors to read it.
“Magnetic Sensors – What happens if I arm the system with a Door/Window magnet open?
If you arm the system with a door/window open and it has a magnet attached the system WILL Arm. Once the door/Window is closed and then opened it will trigger the alarm system”
I’ll leave the readers to make up their minds on whether they would want to install an alarm system with so many flaws.

I am sorry to see you have been unhappy with your purchase, and that it has not met your expectations or needs.

With regards to the feedback you have provided, ultimately the SL2 Kit is a siren only system. The features you have listed are very rarely implemented on these types of systems, due to limitations on them, such as no control panel.

You were advised about the HomeGuard Pro hub, as this is compatible with the SL2 Kit, and introduces internet connectivity and more features.

In these circumstances, I do disagree that the SL2 Kit is unfit for purpose, as we have been selling them for over 6 years, with many customers needs met.

Biggest piece of unreliable garbage I…

Biggest piece of unreliable garbage I have ever bought. Don’t waste your money. Both door sensors and pir sensors work when they feel like it. Wasted so much time with this, not fit for purpose.

ERA is a terrible Company. Recommend you don't buy their products.

ERA is a terrible Company with terrible service. I have had an ERA Protect system for nearly two years and there has been a number of product problems that have taken a lot of effort of my part to get resolved. ERA Protect service has to be continually progressed. John in service always says he has to look into the problem and call you back in the afternoon. He never does!
I have just gone through a 'push' firmware upgrade. Now you would think an upgrade is to fix a bug, improve performance or to add features. No. In this case it removed functionality, stopped the ability to use an important part of the system and gives a false system status on the app when using the key fob to arm or disarm the system. I am now thinking of ditching the entire system getting something else. I tried calling ERA this morning to be told all our agents are busy, please leave a message. Hence this review. I recommend that you don't buy their products. You will regret it in the end.

I am sorry you have experienced an issue following our latest firmware update, and the inconvenience this has caused to you.

In the majority of cases a firmware upgrade is issue, it will be to improve performance, fix bugs, and add features as you have stated. In the case of the recent firmware update it was released to improve connectivity with ERA Smartlocks.

As you have found, the update has also impacted communication between the keypad and the hub. Due to this issue, if the keypad is used the status of the alarm is not showing correctly on the app.

Our developers are now looking at the cause of this issue, and once identified release a firmware update to correct this issue. As yet we do not have a definitive timeframe for this. With the ERA Protect alarm system primarily being a internet connected device the primary usage function would be through the ERA app, and while the issue with the keypad is resolved, the remote fob.

The ERA Protect system was launched in 2020, and in that time we do have a number of customers that are using the system without issue. When made aware of issues, in most cases these are resolved quite quickly, and in some cases we do need to investigate the issue, before we can get back to you.

I am sorry that you have not received call backs as promised, and will endeavor to improve this in future.

If our team are on calls, we do provide an option to leave a message, which we will respond to, rather than having a customer staying on hold if they have other tasks they could be doing.

Miss-leading advertising of window/door sensor. Item returned for credit. Unfortunate as it sounded a good idea.

Smart lock does not work consistently

Smart lock was delivered promptly and instructions were easy to understand making installation straightforward. Unfortunately the fingerprint sensor and key fobs just did not work consistently. Often this meant the worry of being locked out and so didn’t give me the peace of mind needed to ensure I would be able to get in and out of my house securely.
I spoke to customer services who were helpful and provided a return reference number and address to post back for a full refund. I did however have to pay a considerable postage to return the product which was not great.
Lock was returned by Royal Mail special deliver and I am still waiting for refund to go to my account
In light of the worry about being locked out due to the lock not working consistently o could not recommend this product and have gone back to a normal lock and key for complete peace of mind.

Before the Universal Smart Handle was launched, the handle went through extensive testing to ensure the app and hardware worked correctly.

The handle itself is designed to work with 95% of lift to lock mechanisms in the UK marketplace, so it is disappointing to see it didn't perform for you.

As you have now returned the handle, it is not possible for us to troubleshoot any further to help resolve the issues you experienced.
