Serious warning: do not rent from this company.
What we experienced was disorganized at best and intentionally misleading at worst. After the fact, it was obvious this is a pattern -- their Trustpilot reviews tell the same story.
We provided our flight details and confirmed pickup time in advance, yet after landing we were left outside in extreme heat with no clear instructions and no one waiting for us. There was no sign, no uniform, and no identifiable staff. After standing around for half an hour, another rental company actually helped us locate their representative -- which is frankly embarrassing for a business claiming to be professional.
Transportation to the rental location was in a rundown, dirty vehicle, and the "office" itself was in a remote, poorly maintained lot that looked nothing like a legitimate rental facility. It immediately raised red flags.
From there, things only got worse. Despite having all our information and no other customers ahead of us, the process dragged on endlessly. Nearly two hours passed before we were finally handed keys. During that time, we realized they hadn't even prepared the vehicle yet -- it was being cleaned while we were already completing paperwork.
On top of that, they placed an unexpected $4,060 USD hold on our credit card, even though insurance had already been purchased. This was never clearly disclosed beforehand.
The car situation was the final straw. We reserved a Volkswagen and were given a Maxus instead. The vehicle's system was entirely in Chinese, making navigation and basic controls unusable. When we asked staff for assistance, we were brushed off and rushed out. When returning the vehicle later, we noticed something telling: the lot was full, yet there wasn't a single VW anywhere -- strongly suggesting they advertise vehicles they don't actually carry. Their entire fleet is made up of old and janky, near the end cars which are worth less than their surprise credit card holds.
The condition of the car was unacceptable. It had very little fuel at pickup, a window that had been taped over and leaked when it rained, sand already inside the vehicle, and numerous dents and scratches that were not documented. We had to insist on marking the damage ourselves and recorded everything because staff repeatedly tried to downplay visible issues.
What made this even more concerning was watching the same thing happen to other customers. Multiple groups around us were given vehicles different from what they booked and pressured to accept them without any adjustment in price.
Bottom line: this company does not operate transparently. Customers are drawn in by online listings that don't reflect reality, then pressured into accepting inferior vehicles under chaotic conditions.
I would strongly advise travelers to choose a different rental provider. This experience was stressful, misleading, and completely avoidable.

Excessive wait time
It took 1 hour and 50 minutes in the office before we were finally given a key.
Unexpected financial hold
Even though we paid for insurance, they placed a $4,060 USD hold in addition to the rental cost.
Not the car we reserved
We booked a VW but were given a Maxus instead. The entire operating system and instructions were in Chinese. When we asked for help switching the language, the staff said it was “too hard” and rushed us out — making navigation and standard features unusable.
Car delivered in poor condition
There was only ¼ tank of gas at pickup. A broken window taped up, which leaked when it rained. There was sand already in the car, yet they warned us we’d be charged if we returned it with sand.
Widespread bait-and-switch happening to customers
The family ahead of us didn’t receive the car they reserved. We didn’t receive the car we reserved. The family arriving after us was being pressured to accept a smaller sedan than what they booked — all with no price adjustment.
Bottom Line
This operation feels deceptive. They advertise high-quality vehicles online, but upon arrival you’re given something far inferior — with zero cost adjustment — in a lot that looks more like a salvage yard than a legitimate rental company.
I strongly recommend avoiding this company. It is not dependable, transparent, or customer-focused.

They are absolutely not to be trusted. We had full insurance, but on the day of returning the car, someone hit it while it was parked.
Still, they refused to give back our deposit. After 1.5 hours of arguing, while we were standing there with our children, they treated us terribly.
We have now started legal action against this company.

Confianza y profesionalidad
Es un placer tener compañias que den seguridad al turista. Siempre que sales de Europa, sea donde sea, es complejo y genera desconfianza alquiler coches. Con esta empresa todo lo contrario. Transparentes, total información, posibilidad de hablar con whatsapp con la central, precios muy competitivos y el auto en buenas condiciones.
Nos atendió EDGAR (en Playa del Carmen), un fenómeno, nos explicó todo genial, no nos generó ningún problema con la fianza y además nos dio el coche en mejor estado (dado que íbamos a recorrer una larga distancia), un chébrolet automático.
Todo fue "sobre ruedas" con esta empresa. Podéis confizar plenamente en ellos, si volviese no dudaría en alquilar con EASY WAY

La política del encargado en el rent a car de Cancún con sus componentes en las reparaciones de su flota, ponen en riesgo al usuario, ósea NEFASTA. Me dieron el coche con 3 ruedas Michelin y la última rueda reconstruida con las peores consecuencias que gracias de ir tranquilo pude dominar y no tener que lamentar.
Este señor encargado empaña al resto del equipo y vuelve a dejar ver lo que es un verdadero tranzas en México!!…los pensaba ya extinguidos.
Ninguna responsabilidad en sus negligencias en el mantenimiento así como conocedor de las mismas. No se quien marca la estrategia del grupo pero no vuelven a contar conmigo.
No había realizado ningún comentario hasta tener a salvo el vuchet de la VISA….NO ME FIABA DE LAS CONSECUENCIAS.
Good experience with this company
Good experience with this company. Rather pleasant surprise. Arriving at the airport a person is waiting for us with our name. We wait a few minutes to pick up the car 10-15 minutes from the airport. Quite a warm welcome. We sign the papers and go through the rental details plus bank imprint. We got what we had chosen on the website, i.e. an almost new renault kwid with 9000km on the clock + full coverage. The car arrived very clean with the air conditioning on.
We used the car for 2 weeks and did 3000 km (unlimited mileage).
Everything went well, no problems with the car.
On our return (4am) we returned the car cleaned and with the same level of gas as when we left. No surprises when we checked the car out. I paid the price indicated without any surcharge.
Someone dropped us off at the airport by car. I read up on easyway on different forums such as reddit and facebook before booking. The different opinions are to be taken with hindsight and depending on the situation, I have also read that other more expensive and more renowned companies are not necessarily the most reliable. Yes, the locals and the place where the car is located are not the friendliest, but it's in keeping with the price of the rental. I recommend it.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. We wanted an automatic transmission car for driving to Tulum and booked the only automatic they have, the Mitsubishi Mirage (see last photo). While advertised as virtually new, the car we actually got was falling apart and in no safe driving condition: steering pulled heavily to the right, brakes vibrated dangerously during braking, car squeaked everywhere, steering while was literally falling apart on your finger tips, infotainment did not work at all, wheel covers were tied with zip ties, rust/chips/bondo all over the car. We reached out and they did not care to make things right. Stay away from this place, they shouldn’t have a business license.
Misleading deceiving exchange rates, bad customer service & cars
Some positive but mostly bad experience with this rental company. There was a pretty long wait for them to pick us up, although the person to find after going outside was very easy to find and friendly. I had to go ask if they forgot about us since we waited so long. Once transported to office that is 5-8 min away, the staff was friendly and all seemed well. We got a different car then we chose online but within the same class of large SUV, so no problems. We received an Outlander that was older and had about 81+K miles on it. Worn but had great AC, radio, etc. All went well for the most part except when we went to get off the ferry to Cozumel it wouldn't start. Not good on a ferry where everyone is behind you. It started with a jump and we figured a light was left on. However, when we got back to drop off car, we had turned it off and they couldn't get it started again after only a few minutes off. They were going to drive us in the same car to airport since our bags were already loaded. So I think they had more issues with the car. Based on older fleet of cars and not many of them, I'm wondering if they will try to repair this or give it to the next suckers that come along.
Worse part of experience was when we got billed by the credit card. They charged CC considerably more than my online reservation stated AND what they said they would charge on paperwork. They did this by choosing a very inflated exchange rate that they claim is on the wall of their office. Apparently it's on a clipboard in office that they sent me a picture of when I called. I said it's not legal to charge an inflated rate and also, it wasn't what amount I had agreed to on the contract that was listed in US dollars or online when I reserved. I asked if it was worth a bad review and they were very nasty and didn't seem to care. Maybe their business isn't doing well considering fleet age and deceiving up-charged rate exchanges. I had gotten the all coverage insurance, but there are a lot of things it doesn't cover that you have to sign to.
Overall, not a great experience although for the most part the car got us safely from place to place with that one exception on the ferry.
I'm not a difficult customer to deal with. I'm a nurse and try to be very sweet with people instead of nasty. I was surprised at how nasty they were when I called. We will not be renting from them again for future trips.
Avoid Easy Way At All Costs!!!!
Easy Way is absolutely the WORST rental car experience of my life and their awful service nearly ruined my family's entire vacation to Cancun.
To keep it short, my family (including my 7 year old son and 3 year old daughter) rented a van from Easy Way. On Day 3, we decided to take a short ride to Tulum.....which turned out to be a traumatic and horrible mistake. About an hour into the ride, the van's A/C system went out and began blowing only hot air. The temperature outside was over 100 degrees and it was even hotter inside the van by the time we got to the closest auto repair shop.
When we contacted Easy Way, we were told "sorry, nobody is available to help" and that we "need to drive the car back". Stranded 1.5 hours away from Easy Way's office, we tried to take it back, nearly causing all of us to suffer from extreme dehydration and near heat stroke.
Once we finally got to Easy Way, drenched in sweat and traumatized, there were no apologies offered, discounts given, or any semblance of decency from anyone. Instead, we were given an equally hobbled van and sent on our way, despite my husband telling the "inspector" about a flashing tire warning light on the dashboard. We were told "don't worry about it." HUGE MISTAKE.
Approximately one mile from our hotel, we got a flat tire. When contacting Easy Way, we were again told "nobody can help" and that "tires are not covered under warranty". My husband was informed that he would need to change the tire to the spare HIMSELF (which in 100 degrees and with a crying 3 year old on hand, he did.)
The next day, we spent HOURS getting the tire replaced at Costco, on our own dime. Again, no help from Easy Way.
Do not be fooled and try and save a few dollars by avoiding the national companies, Easy Way will do NOTHING to help you in the event of an emergency with their vehicles and will only try and avoid any responsibility for any faults of their decrepit vehicles.
Stay far away!!!
A Car Rental Company You Can Trust
We rented a car from Easy Way in February and drove around in Yucatán for two weeks. Highly recommend doing business with this company. I cancelled my car rental reservation four times with booking.com after reading many bad reviews and was left without a car the day before we left for Cancún. Out of desperation I did a google search on "best car rental company in Cancún" and Easy Way came out on top. After I sent them a message on WhatsApp I got a response back within minutes. The whole process was smooth and painless. We booked a car online with full insurance and the booking was confirmed almost immediately. On the day we arrived in Cancún a gentleman from the company was already waiting for us outside after we collected our baggage. Then another gentleman came to take us to the office to process the paperwork. Less than 10 minutes later we drove away with our rental. What we paid in the office was exactly what we saw on their website. No surprises or any hidden cost. This company only put a $300 hold on our credit card compared to the $10,000 hold some other companies ask for through booking.com. Very honest people to work with. After we returned the car we were given a ride back to our hotel by the airport. Renting a car in Mexico could feel like stepping on a landmine at times if you don't understand their car rental insurance, but with this company you could have peace of mind and enjoy your vacation to the fullest. We got a Volkwagen Vol and it got great gas mileage. Some of the reviews mentioned the car lot looks sketchy and I think it could be improved with a little more lighting. The cars they own also might not be spanking new, but we absolutely feel more comfortable driving a modest looking rental instead of a flashy new car in Mexico.
Not Awesome
Looked up the most recommended car rentals in Cancun 2022 and there were many good reviews about Easy Way so I decided to rent a car online and be picked up at the airport. Arrived from the airport and was told they would be there with a sign and take us to the rental lot. When we arrived we sent a message on whatsapp and they responded they would be 10-15 minutes, no big deal. We waited and turned out they were sending others off so still no big deal. When we got to the lot (which was a disaster of semi broken cars) the issues started; we were told the car we chose was not available and were handed the keys to a smaller inferior car (Fiat) that had been poorly looked after, dash was broken, hubcaps broken, and cover for the trunk broken. We then went through the paperwork and were told that the highest insurance package that you can buy did not cover glass or tires (if either goes you pay for the full value), that there was a deposit required of $300 US and because we leaving the car in Playa Del Carmen that we would have to pay an additional $60 US (this was not on the webpage when you calculate the budget even when I noted the different location). After all that they gave me a car with half a tank of gas and the engine light on. The only good part was the car return in Playa, they didn't even look at the car, provided a receipt for a $0.01 charge on my credit card for the deposit (required he said) and drove us back to our condo. Won't use them again....
Stick with the big company
I read reviews from yelp, Facebook, and Reddit. Only yelp gave bad reviews so I chose this company to rent a compact car with full insurance and it wasn't my 1st time driving in Mexico. Since this is the first trip I went to Cancun with a 1yr toddler, we rented the car in case we needed to buy baby products outside the all-inclusive hotel (Planet Hollywood), which we didn't, so the car was used only as a hotel transportation.
From picking us up at the airport until checking and picking up the car, everything was okay (the radio didn't work when checking but we didn't use it). However, everything went downhill when we return the car. We got a flat tire right in front of the gas station next to their office (50m distance).
So here is the bad stuff from our honest experience:
1.) Per other reviewers said, their cars are really old and so do their tires. We were so "lucky" to get a flat tire so we were kinda paying for their new tire.
2.) The office location is in an awkward position off the airport highway that you need a detour (45 minutes from office to hotel but 1:15 minutes from hotel to office)
3.) Add another 30minutes-1 hour on your airport arrival schedule because they need to check your car, might argue if there are some issues with the car, wait and ride their shuttle to the airport.
4.) It was drizzling when we head to the airport. They just threw our luggage after the shuttle transfer to the airport and left right away, so expect zero help if you have some piece of luggage for the baggage check-in.
5.) When we argued with them about the tire, they play the "bait and switch" strategy because they know we were in rush for a flight back.
I had the option to rent Hertz with Chase points but I stupidly tried out this company because of the local Mexican gave good feedback on Reddit.
Just stay with a big company. More expensive but they have new, reliable cars.

I read reviews and chose this company. I purchased the full insurance ($800 for insurance alone) because it was my first time renting a car in Mexico and I was travelling with my one year old and 3 year old. Unfortunately I was not not diligent and was stressed upon arrival with two young kids after a long day of international travel that I neglected to photograph EVERYTHING upon picking up the car so they charged me $1300 for a dent in the roof at pick up. I felt so uncomfortable and they wouldn’t let me leave so I had to pay it. Had I injured the car - I would have reported it as I knew I had the best coverage. This dent was not from me. Definitely one of the worst experiences of my life. Car rental ended up costing me $2500. I felt threatened and unsafe and all around scammed.
Too bad. Otherwise had a nice time with my family in Mexico. Such a bummer ending. One of the 3 guys there was quite threatening (red shirt, salt and peppery hair, thin) and I’m not sure if it was because I was a woman trying to reason with him that I didn’t do this and I had purchased the most expensive insurance or he was just very mad? The other two were ok and were less intense but I could tell there was not a chance they weren’t taking my credit card. For the sake of getting the hell out of there with my children I handed it over and got out of the situation.

We have rented from Easyway many time over many years. We used to like the Easyway people, cars, and service. We recommended Easyway to friends. Never again.
We will no longer rent from or recommend Easyway. Easyway owes us more than $200 due to rental problems last year. I have emailed and called Easyway. The company never responded.
We are going to Cancun in 2 weeks. I called and spoke to an Easyway representative last week. We agreed that I would get a discount due to the problems last time. We agreed on a car and price. I never received a confirmation email. I wrote to Easyway to confirm the deal. Again, I never received a reply. I give up. Easyway was great until last year. I lost a lot of money on my rental last year. With the bad customer service recently and no response to my problems last year, they lost a customer.

Tuve una de la peores experiencias con Easy Way Rent a Car. Primero renté un auto y me entregaron otro modelo que yo no reservé, además el auto estaba en pésimas condiciones de mantención en la parte externa. Focos quebrados, partes del parachoque que no estaban y así varios detalles externos de deterioro muy evidentes que ellos no reparan en su flota. Acepté el auto porque ya lo tenía reservado y llegando a un país extranjero es difícil saber dónde ir, además ya estaba en la oficina de la rent a car con todas mis maletas. Aprovecho de señalar que mi renta fue por 8 días. Afortunadamente no tuve problemas mecánicos con el auto, pero si una gran inseguridad durante todos los días que usé el auto.

My wife and I are in our 50s and have rented from easy way four times now. However, when we arrived at the office this time we noticed that the workers were pretty rude to us and they were not that way the previously. In the lobby of the Easy Way office they had a mannequin of President trump on all fours with his pants pulled down and a Mexican flag shoved up his anal cavity. No matter what you think of the American president this was incredibly disrespectful to anyone from the U.S. that is coming to give them business. We said nothing and then as we always do we took pictures of the car and a video before leaving the lot. The car was pretty beat up so we made sure the person checking the car out marked the dents and bent rim. All they do is put a circle in the area of the car where there is a dent but do not write anything. about what they are marking. In one are of the car there was several dents and a bent rim but he only put a one circle in that area. We tried to get him to write down what the damage was but he said he had it all marked. Sure enough upon returning the car they were very rude again and tried to say that we damaged the car in the area we were concerned about. We had to argue with them and show them the pictures and video before they acknowledged that we did not damage the car. I would not go back they just seem to have it out for anyone from the U.S. I talked to the other people who rode back to the airport with us. They were three females from the U.S. they said Easy Way gave them a car with expired plates and the first check point they hit the car was impounded and towed. They had to have Easy Way come and pick them up and bring them back to their office to get another beat up car after several hours of being delayed. They said never again would they rent from Easy Way. I will pay extra to rent from a more professional rental company and will not ever go back to Easy Way!
