I found a plastic label in a sealed packet of dog food with “slaughter” written on it!!
My dog use to love this food but I’ve noticed the quality isn’t as bloody and appears to have a lot more bone in than it used to too

If I could give any less than 1 star, I would.
We’re now 2 weeks into a very long, very uncomfortable, exceptionally worrying and expensive ordeal for my poor pup.
Having been fed DAF and only DAF since being weaned to the age of just over 3, I’d noticed the quality slipping. Shot found in venison, the duck so mushy and watery that even the supplier I buy it from has returned boxes to DAF following numerous customer complaints and removing substantial bone while prepping her food.
2 weeks ago today on a morning walk, she was struggling going to the toilet. She’s a very stoic girl and for the third time in her whole life, I actually heard her yelp - this time while passing a hard, chalky single bit of stool.
On return home she paced the garden endlessly for 40 minutes, straining and looking very uncomfortable, she then vomited, yellow vomit with notable hard bits of something in it. She is never out of my sight and does not get into anything she shouldn’t.
I took her for an emergency vet appointment. The initial diagnosis was constipation and she was sent home with anti nausea and pain meds. 48 hours later and she was showing no improvement. She hadn’t passed a stool in the previous 24 hours and was visibly unsettled.
I returned to the vet for another emergency appointment and asked for a scan to be performed as I just knew something wasn’t right. I received a call a few hours later telling me that her entire colon (the whole length of it) was blocked with bone!
Multiple enemas, 5 days being kept in the vets, repeated scans/x-rays to check for progress, liquid laxatives, various pain meds and having to be taken out every hour along with a feeding line in place due to her refusing food, she was discharged home to continue her recovery here, allowing her to have more rest and her familiar surroundings to try and encourage her appetite.
She is still passing shards of bone, I am home cooking for her and using appetite stimulants when she’s reluctant to eat at all for me.
Sleep is non existent and has been for over a week due to her needing to go out so often and then making sure she’s cleaned up and bone fragments removed from her rear end as she continues to pass them.
Thankfully she’s insured as the vet bill is in the region of £3500, but this is more than money, this is a dog who is usually full of beans, has a healthy appetite and predictable bowel movements. She’s lost 4kg in weight and looks so sad, all because of food that has massively slipped in quality (that doesn’t need testing, I can actually see the difference in the food).
I’ve kept one pack of each of the 4 proteins she was having, to potentially have these independently tested for bone quantity.
No pup should ever have to experience all that my little girl has been through (and continues to go through) these last 2 weeks.
Needless to say the remainder of our supply has been binned (along with my daughter’s dog also having been fed Durhams, but that was switched the day we received the news that my girl had a complete bone blockage). I will never again feed this food to any dog and am sharing our experience on any and all groups, along with just word of mouth to family/friends to try and prevent anyone going through a similar situation.
I am just glad I trusted my gut, I didn’t accept constipation as an answer and pushed for the scans that may well have made all the difference to her still being with me.

We have been buying durhams for Years we bulk buy every week , this year the quality has dropped considerably lots of water in the dinners so not as much meat so makes the raw very mushy dogs are not liking it any more . The boneless chicken even though reported to durhams still comes with dangerous size bones in it and the boneless beef. , Mainly these days cheek ,has more fat than meat. .customers I have recommended are leaving Durhams as we will if this raw food does not improve

DAF animal feeds, like to think they can baffle their customers with science. The fact that both my Beagle dogs won’t touch their new batch of rabbit meat, other customers dogs won’t touch it and the local fox community have sniffed it and walked away, speaks volumes. Yet DAF are more than happy to lose a long term customer, over a measly forty quid exchange or refund.

Extremely disappointing experience

I have been using Durham Raw Dog Food for quite some time and, until recently, I had trusted their products for my three French Bulldogs.

Last week, all three of my dogs became very unwell, suffering from severe diarrhoea and vomiting. Naturally, I was extremely worried, especially as it happened to all three dogs.

I contacted the company to raise my concerns, expecting them to take the situation seriously and investigate what may have happened. Instead, the response was simply to offer to replace the remaining food.

I find this response incredibly disappointing. When the health of three dogs is involved, I would expect much more than simply replacing the food. I would expect genuine concern, proper investigation and consideration of whether there could be an issue with the product or batch.

It feels as though the priority is saving money rather than taking responsibility and properly addressing a potentially serious health concern. Our pets' health should come first.

After this experience, I have completely lost confidence in the company and will not be using their food again. I sincerely hope they take complaints like this more seriously in the future.

We have been using DAF raw chicken for 9 years without issue.
All our dogs have been rescue cases and include Greyhounds, Lurchers, Great Dane/Mastiffs and now a DDB all flourished.

Have been using these guys for about 7 years. Other than right at the start my dogs have had the exact same food, either turkey or turkey and apple. The last couple of months I noticed that the appearance of the food had changed and that so had my dog’s poo. My eldest frenchie then started getting blood in her stool which we put down to steroids. Two weeks ago our other frenchie also had blood and they both had horrific diarrhoea. We assumed it was a one off infection, put them on a specialist gastro diet and they were back to their usual self. Began weening them back onto the turkey and the diarrhoea began in one again and the other had thick mucus in his stool. I then thought I’d check out trust pilot and saw many owners having the same problems. This morning I decided to actually look through the food and the shards! Of bone are actually horrific. I really hope DAF reads these reviews and reverts back to what they had before so no more dogs get sick but I for one will never, ever buy from them again!

Never had any issues in 4 years. Great delivery, easy order. Customer service, friendly and helpful, all the delivery drivers go above and beyond. I’m, very surprised at the low rating. Good quality food, at an excellent price.

We have been feeding our 5 year old staffy on a raw diet for around 3 years. As our local pet store were trying DAF as a new line I thought I would try him with it. I purchased 2 blocks of Durhams. One turkey with strawberry and the other was turkey with apple. I gave him half of the one with strawberry for breakfast and the other half at tea time. An hour later and he was sick after both meals.. This food is never 80 10 10 as the packaging says. There was shards of bone in it which I had to pick out beforehand. The one containing apple went in the bin.
Absolute garbage!!!
I will never buy this brand again.

I've been feeding DAF for years now, I'm not sure why I've continued (probably just habit!). I buy DAF from my local raw food shop, which is probably the largest shop for raw dog food and natural treats in my city. They advised me today against DAF, despite stocking it. I had mentioned to them that one of my dogs (who mainly eats their raw rabbit due to his food allergies) has poo that literally comes out like rocks, and that for my other dog the food that is advertised as having fruit and vegetable, I'm lucky these days if it has one single pea in the whole block of food. I've also bought the blocks of goat, and it was so wet and sloppy I can't see how it's not watered down. The shop staff said that they had tried it with their dogs and the bone content is too high, plus other issues, so they advised I switch to a different brand (which actually worked out slightly cheaper so win-win!). I have also been to other raw food shops who completely refuse to stock DAF, and did warn me against it at the time. It's just poor quality, I don't think the quantities are as advertised on the label, and there are now better quality raw foods on the market which are the same price or cheaper. My dogs will no longer be on DAF.

I have been feeding my dogs (2 black labs) Daf raw blocks for ages probably years now, mostly because they're readily accessible in our local pet shop and the cost has been very reasonable, plus my dogs enjoy the flavours with fruit and veg in. I had never had any real issues with it before but a couple of months ago the recipe had obviously changed and the bone content was a lot higher than 10% and there was massive shards of bone. I gave it the benefit of the doubt but mentioned it to our local stockists. The last two weeks the food has been terrible, one packet resembled runny, bloody mush that neither of my dogs were too keen on (they are Labradors, or walking dustbins usually) and the bone content seems to have been high again with large shards again!!! Their stools have been crumbly, hard and like trying to pick up sand. Needless to say I'll no longer be purchasing DAF raw meat, I am genuinely very concerned that a dog is going to become seriously ill eating this rubbish. Avoid at all costs.

We had used this food for around 18 months with seemingly no issues until our dog got severely constipated ending up needing a forced enema under general anesthetic which is a HUGE risk for a 9 year old bulldog with bronchitis but we had no choice as the vet said to wait could be fatal , they just called us and luckily he has made it out of surgery but the blockage was compacted poop with loads of bone in , this can only be from DAF raw…don’t risk your dogs health using this stuff we have been lucky this time but your dog may not be .

My Bulldog threw up a load of bone fragments and was very ill with sickness and diarrhea after for a week resulting in going to emergency vet.
I won't be using them again. Didn't bother complaining, looking at comments the company don't care. I just chucked the food away

Their quality control is non existent. No more Durham purchases, changing supplier to Birmingham Raw Food.

I have been using Durham Animal Feeds (DAF) for raw dog food for 2 years and although there were some differences in the quality of the batches I would receive, I never had any major issues until my last delivery. I received one lot of food that was basically just blood and smelt foul, and another lot that was really high in bone content and nearly caused my dog a prolapsed colon.

I bought 3 boxes (14x 454g in each) in 3 different flavours. The Meaty Mince smelt absolutely foul and looked like soup - it was all blood and just mush, my dog wouldn't eat it when previously he has lapped up this flavour. The Duck & Pumpkin looked extremely dry and had such high bone content it nearly gave my dog a prolapsed colon, he was yelping in pain trying to pass the stool for 5-10 minutes and his colon was extended out of his body by around 2 inches. Eventually when he managed to pass the stool, it was rock hard - and I am not exaggerating. His bottom was extremely bloody afterwards.

I reached out DAF and explained about the issues and provided photos. I have never made any sort of complaint to them before. They weren't willing to give me a refund or discount on a future order, and instead insisting all they could do was collect 2 samples of the food to be checked over; but I would have to wait a week for them to collect it and then they wouldn't give a timeframe on how long it would take them to assess the samples or how likely it would be I would get any sort of refund (it was clear there were issues with the food from the photos I provided). I said I needed the freezer space to buy alternative food for my dog so could they take all of it back, but they wouldn't take it all and it seemed highly unlikely they were going to refund me anything at all.

I am really disappointed in their customer service after being a customer for 2 years. The quality of this delivery was appalling and I really would recommend dog owners avoid using them.

My own fault for using a cheap brand as its all I could afford, my dog was severely constipated for 15 days, vets tried other methods before the emergency enema, compacted bone had blocked her intestine, A further five days and she passed the last of it herself. £2500 later, luckily i had insurance but cheap dosent pay .You should be ashamed of yourselves , selling this to naive customers. She could have died, and i bet some poor dogs have died.. never again

Bought from this company for years. Sadly there beef mince is full of sharp shards of bone, seems a common thing with DAF. Sadly when you mail them about it you get, basically, piss off we don't care type of attitude. Come on DAF all feedback about bones can't be wrong, and I would be nice if you're replys were nice and polite for a change. But I guess it's the state of the country nowerdays nobody gives a F--K.

After using DAF for sone time, they sent a DELIVERED text for a large ish order (50+) yet nothing was delivered. When we queried it, they refused to send a photo, refused to refund the £50odd and offered a discount on next order.

Needless to say, we never used them ever again.

To be fair, it's pretty low grade dog food anyway. We're very happy with our new dog food service so probably did us a favour. Worth £50 to never deal with them again.

WARNING DO NOT USE, we were on a raw food diet using another brand meet and due to financial struggles we decided to change to Durham to save a few pounds. What a bad mistake, within a few days our poor dog was constantly struggling to poo and his wee had turned almost brown. Dehydrated, constipated and over all a completely unhappy dog who when he managed to go to the loo struggled and clearly felt pain. The meat is very dry and full of bone. Compared to the other brand we used it is obviously poor quality. I have now chucked a bulk buy of Durham in the bin knowing if it is in our bin it cant harm another. Out of pocket but happy to see my boy back to normal by just changing his food back to the other brand. DO NOT BUY WARNING this company needs to be shut down to protect our family pets.

Durham Animal Feeds (DAF) has made my raw-fed dog violently sick THREE times in 18 months – projectile vomiting bone fragments, shaking, unable to keep water down for 24+ hours.

Product: Durham Animal Feeds Chicken & Tripe / Beef & Tripe (batch numbers already given to DAF).

Every single time the mince was 60–70% coarse bone and sharp shards despite Durham Animal Feeds claiming only “10% bone” on their website.

Called Durham Animal Feeds customer service – they only asked for batch number, no apology, no follow-up. Once the phone was put down on me.

Avoid Durham Animal Feeds (DAF raw dog food) at all costs unless you want your dog to play Russian roulette with violent vomiting and potential blockages.
