Disappointed… and, having read the reviews, it seems I’m far from the only one.
The rose arrived quickly in a large box, but unfortunately that was where the positive experience ended.
I had ordered an expensive container rose, expecting a well-established plant ready to thrive. Instead, the box contained a plant barely filling a quarter of the space, standing no more than around 20 cm tall.
The reason for its disappointing size became clear when I came to plant it. As soon as it was removed from the pot, the compost simply fell away, leaving what was effectively a bare-root rose being sold at a premium container-grown price.
For the money paid, this was extremely poor value and not what I would expect from a reputable plant supplier. A small plant can be acceptable if it is honestly described and priced accordingly, but selling a poorly established rose as a container-grown specimen is misleading. I would not recommend purchasing from this seller unless you are prepared to risk receiving a plant that falls well below expectations.

Both plants were flowering profusely although there is no sign of new growth at all - which suggests they have been cut back hard over winter and then brought on to flower artificially. I’ve planted them and deadheaded to encourage growth but not expecting much if anything. For the price PB charges I expected to receive healthy vigorously growing plants. I’ve bought several times from David Austin and this is no comparison. First and last time buying from Peter Bealea

Diabolical. Was shown to table by young lad who told us there was no 'Coronation chicken, cheese and tomato and steak'........then he shot off! So, was this for a sandwich? salad? panini?. We waited and waited for someone to take an order, after having been given the 'menu' which was a few sheets of paper stapled together 5 times and full of stains. We noticed other people receiving their food and drinks who had been seated after us. I asked the couple on the table next to us how they managed to get their food so quickly, and they told me you have to order at the counter. No one had told us this, and there are no notices ANYWHERE stating this either. In my defence I did have my back to the counter so couldn't see what was going on. I duly went to the counter, and was informed that that the 'seater' should have told us. I ordered food, and it came pretty quickly. However, I had to take the cutlery back as it was covered in old food. My husband had a brie and bacon panini. The bacon was barely cooked, and the whole thing was served on huge plate of mixed lettuce which was brown round the edges. I had a falafel and hummus wrap, also served on the tinted lettuce. The falafel was ok, but the hummus was mixed with some sort of sour cream with mint sauce, and the whole thing was as soggy as a flannel. My tea turned up as a teapot with hot water, a tea bag in an espresso cup, with no milk. All in all a dreadful meal, for £30! Now, I am being picky, but the handwritten menu stated there was 'Tomatoe and cheeze qiche'.......really?
We came here a while a go and the food and service was fantastic - what the hell has happened?

Well, it’s very unfortunate that I have to rate Peter Beales roses so low but I have little choice. After contacting them about another dead rose I learnt that any complaint should be made within the first year. Years ago I bought some Damask roses from them which are still thriving. However, every rose bush and climber (Gertrude Jekyll) has died. I look after my garden and roses are one of my favourite flowers but the quality from PB has gone and now they sell any old rubbish based on the name of Peter Beale. The people I spoke to namely Sharon I believe and a new guy who seemed to know absolutely nothing about roses, told me as it was passed the year nothing could be done. These are very expensive roses and their quality certainly doesn’t match the price they are charging. As a result of their uncaring attitude I shall never again buy roses from them.

We visited Sunday 26th March, We wanted a roast in the local area, so booked that morning after looking at the menu online, Roast Beef or Pork Belly ' perfect!
we arrived at 12.55 for our booked table at 1pm, we were shown to our table.
I was a little disappointed where we sat ( right next to the kitchen in a dark corner, on such a sunny day, the restaurant has beautiful windows all around, so was bright, our table was beside the kitchen service area, so the view we had wasn't very nice, our view was cupboards & behind the counter! so didnt start well, I asked if we could move, but unfortunately we were encouraged to sit were they had reserved, the waitress was just non committing
I did note a chalk board as we went in, saying they were short staffed, so service may take a little longer than normal.
Decided to have 1 x beef & 1 x Pork with beer & wine, hubby went to order, NO PORK! at 1.10!
So I settled for Beef, no other choice was offered.
Our wine & beer sat on the side for 10 minutes until a waitress bought it over! my husband was a little upset as his bottled larger was warm, he asked if they had a cooler one or some ice - both queries were answered with no sorry! no ice, nothing cooler!
Our roast dinner came after 40 minutes, a little longer but noted short staffed, have to say we were on a bad footing by this time & once it goes wrong its hard to find a positive!
Beef was a little tough, quite a large portion, red cabbage, roast potatoes, parsnip, carrot! broccoli, Yorkshire pudding ( suspect not homemade) mash, gravy.
Im not quiet sure what the red cabbage was but it wasn't good.
Im sorry but when you call yourself a restaurant & not a cafe, it has to be ok through & through and this certainly wasn't, I wouldn't recommend the roast, ive have visited on other occasions and been really happy with what I had, but feel it has gone down hill a bit over the past year.
If your going for cake & coffee fine, but not really a restaurant very disappointed - our bill was just over £40.
Beautiful roses
I ordered three Blush Noisette roses, and they were delivered swiftly, and in excellent condition, as were the six Oxford Physic roses that I ordered last month. Thank you 🌹🙂
Disappointed
As a gardener, I would not advise buying from this company. This was my first order (38266) with them, and I usually purchase potted roses from other suppliers without any issues.
I ordered more than five roses, but two were sent as bare-root because they did not have the potted versions in stock. When the order arrived, the two bare-root roses were almost completely dried stems. I planted them anyway, though I had little hope, and unfortunately they did not recover and both died.
I contacted the company, sent photos of the roses, and asked for advice. It was difficult to reach anyone by phone, so I had to rely on email communication. Eventually, they replied and told me to wait a few months and then contact them again for a response or possible replacement.
This was very disappointing. Waiting several months means the summer season will be over, making any replacement pointless. In my experience, this is not a reliable company and it was a waste of money.

I am so disappointed with my recent online purchase. It certainly wasn't as cheap as the other 6 bushes and climbers I've bought from elsewhere.
It is dead and I've done nothing out of the ordinary. Three times more expensive than my usual supplier and no life on the plant!
First time ordering from them and won’t…
First time ordering from them and won’t be doing so again!! Ordered last October bare root stock , with December 6th being supposed delivery date. Here we are in January and only just got 2 of the 3 I ordered. During the long wait there was no updates from them no response to emails and when they did answer the phone which took them ages, they eventually told me one was unavailable!! They would send me the other 2 and refund me for the one out of stock. Still no refund and yet again no one answering the phone!!!
Fantastic quality
Fantastic quality, healthy bare root rose received. It’s settling in nicely and looking forward to seeing it in flower.
Missing order, radio silence
Ordered two roses as presents for friends back in August. Was expecting delivery in November. Had email telling me was being delivered on 10/11/25. Nothing. Emailed on 19/11/25 no response. Emailed again on 26/11/25 no response. This despite their website saying they reply to all emails within 24 hours. Just called them. Oh yeah they should be getting sent out next week. Asked what the delay was. Bad weather apparently. Asked why emails not responded to, oh we’ve got lots to get through. Definitely will not be buying from Peter Beales again
Excellent customer service
This company has an excellent customer service. Recently I bought two Roses from them, one was not rooted properly and the other had die back. They asked me for a review and I gave them a bad one.
They contacted me immediately and asked for photos, which I sent. They then replaced both my Roses. We all get things wrong sometimes, but with such good customer services when thing do go wrong, you can safely shop here.

LOVELY ROSE, WELL PACKED, QUICK DELIVERY, cannot fault this firm, I already had this rose (Bonica) and ordered another, its a star.
Extremely poor customer service and poor quality rose.
I bought two bare root roses from Peter Beales last year and was expecting them in Nov, but they didn’t arrive till Dec and communication was very poor, when I tried to find out the delivery time scale.
One of the two roses has not had a single bud or flower, this year, despite being well cared for and fed in March and June. I grow a large number of roses and they all do very well in the front and back garden. The non flowering rose was planted in a place where no roses had been planted before and treated in exactly the same way as the other roses. I tried, in vain, to get a refund or replacement yesterday and was told I needed to speak to a rosarian, who would contact me today. After wasting an inordinate amount of time waiting to speak to someone, this morning, listening to terrible music, I finally managed to speak to the manager of the garden centre, as there were still no rosarians available. I was given a refund, having been refused one yesterday. I will never order from this company again, what a contrast with customer service at David Austen Roses!
Peter Beales needs to care more for his roses
Our visit to Peter Beales roses was very disappointing. When we visited in September last year the gardens were well kept and the plants for sale were of a good quality and well tended but on visiting again last month the gardens were very overgrown with weeds and brambles and the plant area was very weedy too. Some of the benches displaying roses were broken and rotten and the pathways between benches were covered in weeds. There only seemed to be one man deadheading the roses for sale so by the time he'd get to finish it would be time to start over again. The roses for sale in pots had big weeds growing in them and were very dry and obviously not been watered after a very hot few weeks. Also the watering that had been done the hose was abandoned in a public pathway with no signage and the lance was left unattended. The inside gift shop was very nice so obviously this is where the priority takes place. Also the cafe was busy but didn't go in so cannot comment on that. Definitely the most unkempt garden centre we've visited in Norfolk.Don't think we will be returning anytime soon.

Absolutely shocking service paid for a rose on the 9/4/25 had to keep contacting them regarding delivery , after 12+ weeks they said the rose was not available and refunded which took three days not much of an apology , customer service is terrible would not order again from this company
Superb Service
Superb Service, with next day delivery. I contacted Peter Beales after being let down by another company on a particular species of Rose. The gentleman I spoke to offered good advice on size, care and delivery. Ordered after the call online, and received my order next day. Beautiful healthy Roses.
Disappointed
I love my roses and tried Peter Beale for a particular rose. The service was poor. I paid next day delivery and they failed to honour that. When I went back they put the wrong address label on so it went to wrong address. I again had to chase them up and get a replacement. Little apology and no compensation so disappointed
Beautiful plant delivered in perfect condition
I ordered a Ghislaine De Feligonde potted rambling rose from Peter Beales - I was particularly pleased to find it on offer. Far from being past its best, the plant was in perfect condition, delivered by ParcelForce, and is a beautiful, healthy specimen.

On the 8th June 2023 I placed an order for a York and Lancaster rose Rosa x damascena "Versicolour" to add to my collection of historic roses. The rose was delivered to me on the 8th November 2023. It has flowered for the first time this year and I am disappointed to discover that the rose they sent me was incorrectly labelled and is not a York and Lancaster rose. I e mailed the company with details and photographs but they did not respond. I telephoned Peter Beale rose and re sent details . The person I spoke to agreed to contact me before the end of the day. They did not. All e mails have been ignored so far. Quite appalling customer service.
