Bad first impression
Just a heads up.
When a brand-new client arrives 8 minutes early for their appointment, and gets yelled at from the back of the salon 'we're not open yet, we don't open until 10' -not a good first impression- I'll find another salon, to be sure.

When the Bill Is Always a Surprise:
I have been a regular client at Chatters Nanaimo for about a year, visiting every two weeks for root touch-ups and grey blends. While the stylists I have seen have been talented and professional, the ongoing inconsistency with pricing has been incredibly frustrating.
The first time I had my roots done at this location, I was surprised to be charged an additional $50 for a blowout on top of my root service. This was completely new to me, as my previous stylists elsewhere had never charged extra for simply drying my hair. After that experience, I became extremely cautious. Whenever my stylist wanted to dry my hair “her way,” I would specifically ask whether I would be charged extra and would often request that the stylist inform the cashier of exactly what service had been performed so there wouldn’t be any confusion at checkout.
Unfortunately, any time I didn’t have the stylist walk me to the front desk, there always seemed to be a discrepancy in pricing. This caused me a great deal of anxiety, as I constantly felt I had to advocate for myself just to avoid unexpected charges. I even spoke to the manager on more than one occasion, and at one point she told me that the stylist had “maybe” been charging me incorrectly. From then on, I made sure I was crystal clear every single time I sat in the chair.
Because my greys are stubborn, I started going in for grey blends, which are advertised on the website at $32. I had been receiving this service regularly for about a year without issue. Since my previous stylist no longer works there, I booked with a new stylist who did an excellent job. She completed my grey blend, dried my hair, and I was charged the expected $32.
After travelling, I returned two weeks later for the exact same grey blend service and was shocked to be charged approximately $80. When I questioned the price, the stylist explained that the manager had instructed her to charge more because she had spent additional time blow-drying my hair. Apparently, because I “like my hair blow dried,” an extra charge of around $50 had been added.
My issue isn’t necessarily that prices change—it’s that these changes were never communicated to me beforehand. How about informing your client before the service is performed so they can decide whether they are comfortable with the additional cost? I was expecting to pay $32 and instead found myself paying close to $90. The manager wasn’t in the salon at the time for me to discuss the issue directly. The stylist herself was very good at what she does and seemed genuinely uncomfortable when she realized I was upset.
As a loyal client, I shouldn’t have to wonder what I’ll be charged every time I go to the front desk. Transparency and consistency are essential, and unfortunately, this ongoing confusion has left a very sour taste in my mouth. As someone who is still fairly new to Nanaimo, I had hoped to find a salon I could support long-term. Sadly, because of these repeated experiences, I don’t think I will be frequenting this location the way I once did.

I’ve had Reiki a few times throughout my life and, to be honest, I’ve always been somewhat skeptical. While I’ve enjoyed the relaxation aspect, I wasn’t fully convinced by the experience.
My session with Angie was different. Throughout the treatment, I experienced several physical sensations and reactions that I couldn’t ignore. As things were happening, Angie explained what releasing can feel like, and my experience matched what she described surprisingly closely.
Whether you’re a believer in holistic or the analytical type, I would absolutely recommend giving Angie a try. She creates a comfortable, professional environment and offers a genuinely meaningful experience.

I just wanted to send a huge rave to Courtney at Chatters! This is hands down the best cut and colour I’ve had in years. She was so cheerful and upbeat—it was truly a pleasure spending a couple of hours with her.
Her product recommendations were also spot-on. As someone who is 50+ with very fine hair, this new cut and the products she suggested have given me a level of confidence in my hair that I’ve honestly never had before.

A Star Glowing experience
Met with Star and immediately knew I made the right choice with her. She is extremely knowledgeable with all hair types and made me feel so welcomed. Her suggestions at maintaining care for my hair were simple and easy to follow. I wish I had started seeing her way before but I will now see her forever!

I went to chatters just to get a trim
I went to chatters just to get a trim. Firstly I had to wait 20 minutes in the waiting room for my appointment, which was OK. I get that they were busy. But when I finally saw a hairdresser, she asked me once how much I wanted it off she never reconfirmed mind you my hair was down to my butt. I asked for maybe one or 2 inches off. My hair is now at my chest. I can’t even put it in a braid. not only did she cut it way too short without reconfirming she cut it unevenly and crooked. my hair has never looked more of a mess. I am beyond mad.

I went in to see Trish for a blowout and style... from the second I walked in she made me feel like a queen! She professional and soooo talented. She even helped me pick out the right products for my hair to keep it looking fresh! I will be back ...for my blowouts and trims !!! I would highly recommend you go sit in her chair and let her work her magic on you.
Raj at Chatters Ajax
In the fall of 2025 I randomly chose Raj at Chatter Salon Ajax to take me from shoulder length hair to a pixie cut. She did a great job and I have continued with Raj for 4 followup hair trims. Raj listens to her clients, is very skilled and friendly. She is now my go to hairdresser.

This was one of the worst professional…
This was one of the worst professional haircut experiences I have had in my life, if not the worst. This is regarding the Abbotsford Sevenoaks Mall location, service on May 9, 2026.
I explicitly told Sandy, my stylist, that I wanted to keep my hair long and trim 1/4" off all the way around, definitely no more than 1/2" (in case she was inaccurate), thus the reference point was 1/4", just make it even and cut stray lengths. I wanted to keep my long waves on the sides which covered most of my ears.
She first used electric trimmers and in the beginning two passes she took off 3/4" off the left side over my ear. I immediately told her nicely to stop, that was too much and I was not happy. I reached down to the floor to get my hair she cut off and I showed it to her. I estimated 3/4" because I know dimensions as a woodworker. She was sad and apologized.
I told her my girlfriend wants me to have my wavy hair over my ears. Now it was gone. This was significant because my girlfriend lives overseas, and she could only see me for less than a week.
As she continued, the stylist further erred by telling me what my haircut should be, with hair only barely over the tops of my ears. I had to correct her again! I told her that 'no, you need to cut what the customer wants'. She knew she failed.
I complained calmly and respectfully to the manager, who was very concerned and cordial, and told her that I did not tip because of the bad cut, and that I would not be returning to Chatters.
The manager apologized and offered a refund, but I refused it. I told her that I was brought up and learned that if you get bad service in a haircut, you pay for it, yet it does not require you to do business with them again. Also, in some circumstances I believe that if you refuse a refund, you keep your power of complaint as a customer.
