Well I signed up for a £17 a month they have been increasing the payments without telling me it's a con
Not happy at all
Nightmare. Pure nightmare.
I see I'm in very good company here. This is what I told EW: Not only has this been the worst audio software experience of my life, it has been the worst overall computer experience I've had in the whole history of the personal computer. The word's been used by others but it's true: Nightmare. Every aspect of getting EW's software up and running is pure nightmare. And the money! The money I have spent trying to make this work makes me nauseous. Don't do it. Really, just don't do it. There are so many other distributors out there producing excellent samples that are easy to install, affordable, and actually sound like the year 2023 instead of 2000. Good riddance to EW.
Not consumer friendly
I have tried the composer cloud for one free month, and after the month i didnt mind to pay a couple of months more but without any notice i am stuck with subscription for a year. On top of that, it is only posible to cancel your subscription one month before the subscription ends (so they hope you forget and trick you into another year).
The sounds are decend but the controls are dated.
Works when it works
Works when it works. Plus lots of iLok nightmares, compounded if you don't upgrade your computer along with the other rich techies.
I have spent thousands of dollars on…
I have spent thousands of dollars on their libraries and was a good customer but always struggled with the PLAY VST which was not well built, slow and just not working well vs competitor's products.
Recently they released the OPUS update which seems to have fixed some problems for the string collection. To my absolute surprise, you have to pay hundreds of dollars to get the new version while the PLAY is totally dropped(no more future updates).
I am sorry soundsonline but this is pure greed. You should have fixed your previous PLAY software or send us this update for free(as you are discontinuing the player we initially purchased). It is very sad because some of us are not just little hobbyists but network a lot, one of us being dissatisfied creates a wave of losses in sales from other customers in our circles as we stop speaking positively about your product in many studios. Think about it sales wise, free updates to keep your current customers onboard or loss in sales from current and future young customers. I think the loss in sales is far more damaging for you guys. If you want us to spread good words about your products in studios, forums and Youtube, make an effort and do not treat us as bank notes but real customers.
Rubbish
From the abysmal download speeds of libraries to outdated user interfaces and last but not least sounds/loops that seems from the early 2000s, EastWest's product is a complete letdown. The price tag for it is beyond ridiculous. I take Splice over EW any day.
Excellent Products and Service
After many many years, I've just recently finally upgraded from the Kompakt EWQLSO Silver edition to the platinum edition. I've always loved this library, and it's nice to have the complete version of it. I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars over the years on orchestral instruments, and EWQLSO just has that sound I like, and it's so simple to use right out of the box.
I've also tried their composer cloud service several times and enjoyed trying out their other products. You get a lot of good and useful instruments for a great price. Beside EWQLSO, some of the other products that I also like include their pianos, symphonic choirs, and their Hollywood orchestra. There are others that I like as well, but these are my highlights.
The problem I had that kept me from upgrading EWQLSO and continuing to use their composing cloud service was the Play engine. It would not work well at all no matter what computer I used it on including high-end systems. However, all of the problems that I was experiencing with Play have been resolved with the release of the Opus engine which works flawlessly.
EastWest's customer service is also great. Whenever I had a question or a problem, I got my answers and solutions within hours. Excellent customer service.
Anyways, I'm a pretty happy and satisfied EastWest customer, and I'll be looking forward to purchasing more products from them in the future. Symphonic Choirs and their pianos are already on my list.
Average Sounds, Clunky Engine, Laughably Bad Download Speeds
The sounds are average at best East West may be the industry leaders in subscription based instruments, but I believe they focus on this so much as their sounds are dated, and very vanilla.
Nothing terrible the sound quality is top notch, but the clunkiness of OPUS, and the absolutely dire download speeds (I've had the subscription for months, and multiple ones are still downloading) just makes the user experience unpleasurable.
They wouldn’t let me cancel and are now stealing my money
I signed up for what I thought was a month of composer cloud to try it out…. Not a free trial ( I don’t believe that exists? I was willing to pay to try it. I accidentally chose the annual subscription paid monthly by mistake and confirmed it.
I immediately realized this and emailed them. They refuse to switch my account and are forcing me to pay for a year subscription. It was my mistake but I never work with companies that care absolutely nothing about their potential future customers.
There are lots of people doing this and East West is definitely NOT the best. I would recommend never using any of their products because they don’t care if you do or don’t. They lost my business for life to take my money for a year.
The sound quality is fantastic
The sound quality is fantastic. Im running Windows 10 on an HP computer thats 2 years old. I HAVE TO WAIT 20 minutes each time i want to use another instrument. The wait makes recording a nightmare of doing nothing. I wrote to ask for help and the tech talk is ridiculous. Not helpful at all for a basement recording studio. I can't recommend EastWest because the programs are not user friendly at all. I love the sounds, i regret getting involved with the company. I use a 4T external drive... im so pissed off i hate this plugin.
They grey out yearly auto-renewal so you cant disable it
Joined the subscription to test out the library and ended up locked into a year subscription. As people are saying, even if you remove your details they don't on their end and keep charging!
Even worse is they GREY OUT AUTO RENEWAL so you CAN'T DISABLE IT (it's stuck to on). If you don't pay they will keep charging you year after year. Disgusting, Imo they're a boderline scam because clearly the user experience is deceptive drawing many people into an undesired contract.
Really disappointed and at the end of the year subscription I will be cancelling and lose all the instruments I paid for.
Don't buy unless.......
Don't buy unless you get the hard drive from them. It takes literally ...as in literally....days to download the orchestra libraries over a 1G plus download service. Rude reply from service tech when I asked him if this is a common problem from clients!
Not normally one to defend a company or…
Not normally one to defend a company or organisation, but wanted to relay my experience with this company as I can categorically say I have never had customer service so incredibly good. I have meant to post this for a while, and I can see a few people here have had negative experiences with this company, in regard of their subscription model. I am not one of those. I subscribe to their Composer Cloud product, and, the product itself is incredible. Their are enough reviews online saying how great it is, and they are entirely accurate, so I won't say much more about that, for fear of wasting your time. Suffice to say, it's a great product at an amazing price. Read the subscription info before purchase, and make sure you can commit. You will not be disappointed by the quality or versatility of the product. Support is efficient, courteous and timely. I wanted to relate a brief story about their customer support ethic: When I was but a youngster, without exaggeration, some time just about 2007-2008, I purchased the physical DVD media of the Symphonic Orchestra Platinum edition. DVD, for the kids reading this, is what us old boys used to buy our media on... (it came after CDs, and cassettes/vinyl-ask any boomer about it). It worked flawlessly for years. Great sounds. I was a happy camper. Following a relocation, over a decade later, the sample data on my hard drive corrupted which would have meant a reinstall from DVD. Only... the DVD had been damaged in the move, and it looked a lot like I was going to be out of luck. Just to be clear, at this point, I was absolutely sure I was going to have to repurchase the whole thing as a new version. Damaged DVD over a decade after initial purchase? Didn't seem like an unreasonable thing to have to do, all things considered! I fired off a quick email to this company to see if they could ease the pain of upgrading. This is where I was legitimately stunned by the response. Not only did they explain they could help, free of any charge, they literally did it all for me. After installing some remote software, they accessed my computer, rebuilt all my file structures, fixed all the corrupted samples and made sure everything was working. This took about 2 days to do, given both their availability and my own, but it was all done over the net, with me watching a person based in the US (I am UK based) literally rebuild my system in front of me, so it worked flawlessly. To be clear: at this point I wasn't a subscriber to any of their services. I wasn't even a recent customer. They had the courtesy, professionalism and commitment to help me out, even though the software I had purchased from them was OVER A DECADE OLD. Perhaps I am easily impressed. I think though, I am not. This however, was simply the best, most supportive, most attentive customer service I have ever experienced. Can you imagine going into a shop with a TV you had purchased well over ten years ago, explaining it had broken, and the company happily spending two days fixing it for you, for no charge?! I would be amazed if you ever had service like that, and, I was amazed too! As a result of this, I have subscribed to their product, and will continue to do so. The sounds, the support, the sheer effort this company goes through in every sphere of their business, deserves to be applauded! Great stuff!
Scammers
I accidentally signed up for an annual subscription when I meant to do monthly. Now they are charging me every month and refused to cancel my subscription. Avoid these scammers. The samples are also very subpar.
From Bug to Bug
From Bug to Bug, Crash to Crash
Can´t use pocket recorder, can´t save channels on orchestrator, can´t find purge all instruments, can´t save preload settings on orchestrator, can´t save reverb off on orchestrator, can´t automate mute/solo on orchestrator (only work as keyschwitch), channels do not record as channels on orchestrator, essential paramaters do not show on Logic Pro, Espaces II update came too late for Monterey, many times the interface of Player tab does not appear in Opus instruments, absolute bulk and batch functions (to drive you crazy when managing many things (and with unreliable saving of ALL settinngs), can´t work 2 weeks without having to chat with the support, who NEVER apologizes or never says THANKS to the criticism by professionals. Impossible to set a single Zoom call. Teamviewer is very invasive in the private sphere and unpersonal. A prize for best audio quality is not enough long term, considering the investment of us custumers, it is needed some basics still.
Kontakt never crashed with me, and also Spitfire BBC (that is not so good as the whole Opus thing). Just one example.
East-West is one of the best VST with…
East-West is one of the best VST with amazing libraries for those who want to compose hyper-realist orchestras, cinematic, and much more.
You can also modify the instrument sounds with amazing native effects such as the Homicide and a pre/mix from the classic SSL.
After using East-West for one year and Spitfire for 2 years.
I must say the two are the high-end in terms of orchestral libraries. they just have different positions in the market but both are monsters.
In terms of Vst, I use it on windows, I5 7th generation, 16GB ram DDR4, with SSD for the vst and a 4TB HDD for the libraries. and I never had any issues in terms of bugs or etc and I use more than 100 tracks with instrument articulations.
The only thing I say that could be better is the download speed from the EW installation center, I have 200MB with internet cable but my EW download speed is 800kb.
And in terms of Company, I must say it is one of the best companies I've ever worked. Any issue I had they helped me. one time I was overcharged. and while I was thinking about how to write a mail to the customer support, the refund was already made with a mail asking apologies.
So my feedback is an absolute 5 stars!
i Lok crap
i Lok crap. can only be used on 1 computer. Useless if you perform live.
EastWest has a lot to offer (good support, sales, unique sounds and ideas).
EastWest has a lot to offer.
First off:
Their support is great! I dont know why so many people are complaining about the support, I find it very helpful.
The supporters are very kind and competent and helped me many times.
Now to the libraries:
The pirces are high, but due to the fact that everything is on sale almost all the time since the pandemic, I think the price is fair.
I got Symphonic Choirs (including the expansion pack) for about 200$ which is a good price.
Sure some of the libraries are outdated but thats because they were recorded decades ago. The fact that most of these libraries are still compared with brand new libraries speaks for itself. Most libraries from nowdays would not last as long as libraries from EastWest/Quantum Leap.
I bought the Symphonic series (Choirs & Orchestra), the Hollywood Series (Choirs, Orchestra and Solo Instruments), as well as Ministry of Rock 2.
And I am going to buy more (like Ghostwriter for example).
There are many libraries which sound interesting, but they are all very specific (for example the Backup singers or the Pop Brass). The Opera singers are specific as well, dont get me wrong, but they are much easier to use in a soundtrack.
I am excited for Opus as well.
The ComposerCloud subscription service is good, especially for beginners, but I think over a long period of time it is better to buy the libraries straight ahead instead of renting them.
The Word Builder in the Symhponic and Hollywood Choirs is phenomenal, you wont find anything like that anywhere else.
Spaces II is just gorgeous, if you are into reverb.
All in all I think its a good publisher of instrument libraries, allthoug some libraries dont hold up.
Too bad for them.
Worst support I've ever seen)
The product itself of course is not as bad, I think this is due to the annual subscription, which I also chose by mistake.
Of course, their player is a mess, whether it's play or opus...
I also don't like what in one library the dynamics on the modulation wheel increases if you twist up, on the other one you have to twist down...
Although to be fair I don't like third-party players ot, spitfire, uvi... Too used to Kontakt, but nevertheless I like spitfire and OT player more than upus, but I still choose Kontakt and don't want to buy new OT or Spitfire libraries that work only on their samplers.
The only player I like more than Kontakt is AmpleSound for guitars or solo inst.
Actually the libraries aren't that bad, I was going to buy hollywood choir and stordrum 2\3, I signed up to look at other libraries to choose and maybe buy something else, test hollywood brass again and think about the full series. But as it turned out there is no way to cancel the subscription, and have to pay for something I'm not going to use. Since I had previously used east west, I was sure that there would be no problems and can cancel the subscription.
I am more than sure it was possible to unsubscribe from composer cloud x in the past, but it seems like a smart business plan to get customers who would be dissatisfied after the fact.
I don't want say to stay away from these developers, but for the price of a 2 or 3 year subscription you can get something better.
East west has a lot of content, but in fact most of it is terrible that no one uses.
I think it would be fair to have close mics available for a month's subscription. Why even have a monthe subscription without close mics is absurd. Although I understand that this is a reason to entice the annual plan. What's the logic in setting those who give you a chance against you, given your poor reputation.
And if you created a project using Composer Cloud X, which after a while you need to fix, you need to buy the annual plan again, because there are no close mics in the monthly plan)))
The funny thing is, I have ot berlin series, cinematic series, something from cinesamples, perfomansesamples, cinesamples and I generally somehow survive these write-offs. But mostly people who don't have a lot of finances come for eastwest subscriptions, and to build a business on those people))) Honestly funny))
But I still think libraries are good, with their own character, I think they would be in great demand if they were transferred to Kontakt, I understand that you're trying to do something to improve, it's good, but if you have two options for your player and for Kontakt it would be more convenient.
One more thing. You can offer your customers who are not satisfied with subscription, without refund, you can offer them to choose a product at the price of the subscription and remove the subscription but give the product, this way the customer will not pay for nothing and will keep something and you will get your money. To smooth the edges, so to speak. For example Plugin Alliance also have old plugins, but they are just super loyal, well, and plugins I like.
I ask of course not for myself, I do not need anything from you) moreover, this situation makes me laugh) I first went to trustpilot to leave another review, other people, but just read your reviews)))
Why create such a reputation for yourself))))
The most complicated set up process…
The most complicated set up process imaginable.
The software keeps asking for iLok keys etc.....
The downloads are VERY VERY slow....would take several days to download the entire library even on a fast connection
Sadly i signed up for a year.
