I phoned for MJ Harris to quote to renovate our bathroom, en-suite in bedroom and downstairs toilet and arranged an appointment for them to visit.
After looking at loads of poor MJ Harris reviews on Trust Pilot ( 20% is far too many 1 star reviews ) and based on a discussion about the agreed time for their person to arrive I cancelled the visit and said I am going to write a review about this phone call.
Woman said "good luck with that" and put the phone down on me.
Not a good overall experience as a first time potential customer of MJ Harris and a one star review from me.

Due to the nature of the business we can not give specific times as our engineers do run over. They do not always know the extent of the job until they have arrived and therefore it would be unfair to give specific times.
We have listened back to your call and we can confirm that when you booked you asked for us to come later and our telephonist said after 12 which you confirmed would be ok. We will arrange to send the recording to you via email for your records.
We can confirm we were not late and when one of our telephonists spoke to you at 12.05pm we confirmed that you were in fact the engineers next job.

A very efficient and delightful firm!
First call - a delightful, friendly lady on the phone who was extremely helpful in getting me an appointment as quickly as possible.
The engineer was very cleanly dressed and presented with a polite manner.
He was very efficient in solving our blocked drainage problem which is not easy on our land.

Very swift efficient response
Very swift, reassuring response to my call about blocked kitchen drain. The plumber arrived promptly, identified the problem and thoroughly cleared the blockage. Both the telephone operator and the plumber were efficient, informative and polite throughout. Everything was completed within two and a half hours of my call.

Did the job well but expensive.
I was able to get a plumber the next day after calling. I could have had a plumber the same day but I was not available. Note there is a call out charge of £42, even for non-emergency calls. The plumber, Andrew, was efficient, carried out all required tasks to a very good standard and left no mess. The downside was the price, which was more than I expected. But I know waiting for a plumber to be available at a cheap price can be a lengthy business.

Super-efficient service
Super-efficient service - my boiler was fixed on the day it broke, and at a time to suit me. The person who speedily fixed it and went to buy new part was very knowledgeable. I was very impressed all round.

Extortionate Company
Terrible company. Kept me waiting a whole day then cancelled at 6pm. Arrived in the afternoon next day to fix toilet and service boiler. Charged £237 for a simple toilet fix then wanted another £440 to service the boiler, but thank goodness he didn't have time. Cancelled boiler service, got a local plumber who charged £90 for boiler service and said toilet fix would've only cost £60. Absolute rip off. Charge 4 times what normal plumbers charge. Save yourself a hundreds and book local.

We are sorry to hear that we were not able to attend the same day as requested. Unfortunately our engineers can experience delays which is out of our control. We will always inform you if the engineer is not able to arrive the same day.
Our engineer will always provide a cancellation sheet which includes the scope of works, breakdown of costs and the terms and conditions before any work is carried out. This is when you can either accept or decline the work and please note you are not obligated to go ahead and we will only do so on your instruction.
We are a family run business and we fully employ 15 engineers as well as a small office team. Our charges cover staff salaries, office premises, vehicles, training, VAT and much more. These are the prices we have to charge to be able to operate. If we were a one man band business with no overheads then I am sure you would be looking at paying the prices you had stated. We appreicate your feedback and we will be sure to pass on your comments.

Excellent service
Excellent workmanship. The plumber knew the problem practically straight away and solved it quickly. Very friendly and explained the problem in an easy to understand manner. I highly recommend this company.

Very efficient service and fast. I rang at 8.30 and plumber was there at 10.30. Quite expensive however it was worth it to get the problem sorted so quickly.

Condescending near do wells.

Our call out charge taken at the time of booking covers the engineers travel, to carry out a visual inspection and to provide a quotation. Unfortunately we are unable to provide an accurate quotation here from the office, there is only so much that we would be able to advise at the point of call.
We are a family run business and all 15 engineers are employed by us as well as our office team. All of our engineers live local to their area covering a 30 mile radius.

Rip off company
I chose this company because it appeared to be local. However, after the fact, I discovered they are actually based in Caldicot, despite using a local looking number (01905 847804), which feels misleading.
The call-out charge was £42, and I was then charged £210 in labour just to change a tap (which itself cost £124.99, but can be found for £40 elsewhere).
This seems vastly overpriced for such a simple job.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend them and worry about elderly or vulnerable people being overcharged for emergency work.
I have also noticed that positive reviews on Trustpilot have been invited by the company.
