Pipe in airing cupboard started leaking, steadily getting worse. Rang and was told someone would be out that day....thankfully I didn't have to wait too long. New pipe is now fitted and leak stopped. Very pleased with service provided.

Paid a callout fee of 42 pounds
Paid a callout fee of 42 pounds, for a non urgent job (to refit a sink), which I was happy to pay. The plumber who came out told me they would charge 210 pound for labour per hour. Materials, would have been covered by the 42 pound callout fee. I feel this is extortionate and should have been explained to me before paying the callout fee. The plumber told me this was the rate set by his boss and he could not negotiate. He also told me that 3/4 of his clients say the same thing. If this is the case this feels like extortion and that the company are setting hourly rates 3+ times a standard rate in order to maximise prophets from callout charges, which is unethical.

We will always try and provide a fixed price quotation however there are times that if we are unsure of how long the job will take this will be put on the hourly rate charge.
Our call out charge covers the engineers travel, to carry out a visual inspection and to provide a cost for the repairs. The material charge is not covered by the call out fee and this is an additional cost.
Whilst we are a family run business, we fully employ all 15 of our engineers as well as a small office team. Our charges cover staff salaries, office premises, training, vehicles, VAT and much more.
Whilst we appreciate you were not happy with the cost provided, these are the prices we have to charge to be able to operate. We will be sure to pass on your feedback.

Prompt service everything explained what was going on toilet repair done same day ,Mitchell rang 30mins before he arrived ,polite and quick would definitely use this company again reasonable price £42 call out fee was taken off final price.

Very expensive job
Very expensive job. I paid deposit of £40+ thought I may need to pay prob £60 more, just for removal of a radiator. It took half an hour and cost me £160 on top of the £40+
Can't recommend as I believe they are ripping people off. Pleasant worker, but job too expensive.

We are always upfront with our charges and our engineer will provide a cancellation sheet which includes the scope of works, cost and terms and conditons. This is your opportunity to accept or decline the work and of course you are not obligated to go ahead. We will only carry out the work on your instruction.
We can confirm that the call out charge was deducted off your final bill. Your bill should have been £210.00 however with the deduction of the call out charge your total due on completion was £168.00.
We are however glad to hear you were happy with the engineer that attended and we will be sure to pass on all your comments.

Took a deposit of £42 for the call out and said it would come off the final bill. The plumber then arrived and quoted the full price of £215.99 (which seemed very steep for a 5 minute job).
Then the office rang up later to charge the difference and said we needed to pay £215.99 and that the full price was £215.99 + £42. Only after me questioning and then them "going to check" would they admit that this was incorrect..
They were also extremely rude in collecting payment. When I took a moment to do my own maths, they said "I could have told you so" with a huff.

Your technician was prompt, efficient and effective at solving the entire problem with the ground drainage block, and whilst he may have been under a strict time limit set by his schedule, he made sure that every element of the work had been completed to his satisfaction before signing off, he is a credit to your company

If you have an emergency
They promised same day call but at 3:30 received a call saying that the engineer was delayed from early job and would not make it. I asked if they would priorities me for the next day and the person on the phone was not able to do this. This I understand but they did take the 49.00 pounds callout change within 30 mins of my call. The good news was that when they did arrive (not first thing the next day) they solved the problem.

Felt scammed
Requested to pay £42 call out charge up front. Prices quoted were excessive/unaffordable for minor plumbing repairs such as replacing tap. Lost £42 to be given unrealistic quotes. They refused to refund the charge and not interested in an unhappy customer. Felt tricked into paying call out fee up front for exorbitant quotes.

Our call out charge covers our engineers travel, to carry out a visual inspection and to provide a quotation and this is payable at the time of booking and this is non-refundable.
We are sorry that you were not happy with the quotations for the repair however these are the prices that we need to charge to be able to operate due to our overheads. You better leave it undone as you will have peace of mind that it's blocked. With MJ Harris, you will fell sorry for yourself. I bet they are quick to take payments but when it come to get the job done, they keep cancelling and regular basis until you ask for your refund.
Not sure if they really have the capacity to take jobs.

MJ Harris were very professional.
MJ Harris were very professional and went and fixed the problem within a couple of days of me ringing them. They fixed the problem within a couple of hours and their prices were very reasonable.
