Bought and paid for a 2017 MG ZS from Mervyn Stewart on 31 July 2024. The package included 1 free service and two year warranty. Was due to collect on Saturday 3rd August. On Friday 2nd August I received a call to inform me that while preparing the vehicle for collection a warning light to do with the braking system had come on and needed a part. Was told the the part would be in the following Wednesday 7th August. On Wednesday I was told there was a problem getting the part and the car wouldn't be ready until Oct 24!!!!!. To be fair the Sales Person ( Aaron) arranged a courtesy car and someone from Mervyn Stewart rang me each week with an update. In September 24 the part came in and I got the car on 10th September. On the day I collected the car, one of the Managers handled the handover. He was very apologetic about the delay and assured me that the car had the part replaced and given a full "Health Check" and was good to go. Since then I've been driving the car and have had no issues. The problem started when I booked the service and as the MOT was due on 13th Aug for a MOT prep I rang and got a service date for 6th August 2025. I was told by the lady in the Service Department that my car wasn't under warranty. I assured her it was and told her I would bring the paperwork in on the day if the service. On the day of the service I was told they had no record of the warranty or a free service and they had never heard of Aaron the Sales Person who sold me the car. When I produced the paperwork they conceded and told me everything was in order. I was told the car would be ready by 4pm that day. Later that afternoon I got a call from the same lady informing me that when they had done the service and were doing the MOT and noticed a list of things wrong with the car, including wish. bones, springs, bearings etc are all rusted away and need replaced as the car was unsafe and not roadworthy. In addition the rear tail wasn't working. I was a bit shocked at this considering I only bought the car last year and only had the car for less than a year and so much needs done to repair it. The response I got was "it is an older car" (it is a 2017 car first registered 29 Dec 2017) and I was total it would be a "hefty bill'. To be fair they did say that some of it would be covered under warranty and they rest would be up to me to pay. I was then told they had to order parts in and the car would be ready for Monday 11th August. I received a call on 9th August asking me to come back with the courtesy car as they need to change me over to another car. On Monday 11th I got a call to inform me that they had discovered struts and other parts need replaced. Nearly every day I was getting a call to say something else need replaced. Eventually I got the car back on Tuesday 19th August. During this time I had to change MOT dates 3 times. Each time I complained the response was " its an old car" and they understand that " I had lost faith in the brand". I made it clear that I have lost faith in Meryvn Stewart and in MG if that's the way Mervyn Stewart treat customers as they are not good ambassadors for the MG brand. On they day of collection if took over 1 hour to prepare the bill, as it was "complicated due to warranty paying for some of it, Mervyn Stewart paying for some of it (as they should noticed at the time but didn't) and then what I would pay for. Customer service is just awful.
I HAVE BEEN A SUZUKI CUSTOMER FOR DECADES AND ALWAYS FOUND THE ORIGINAL PHILIP PETERSEN COMPANY TRUSTWORTHY TO DEAL WITH. THE STAFF WERE ALWAYS PROFESSIONAL AND YOU KNEW WHO YOU WOULD SEE WHEN YOU WENT IN. WHAT A TERRIBLE DIFFERENCE THE MERVYN STEWART GROUP HAVE MADE TO THE PLACE. I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR MY SUZUKI VITARA AND BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO GET THE RECALL CARRIED OUT. I WAS HORRIFIED TO BE TOLD THAT MY CAR WOULD BE TAKEN TO THEIR MG SITE TO GET THE WORK CARRIED OUT NOT THE SUZUKI SITE. I CAME HOME AFTER COLLECTING MY CAR AND TOLD MY HUSBAND AND HE WAS FURIOUS. HE SAID HE WOULD WANT THE CAR TAKEN TO ANY OTHER GARAGE RATHER THAN AN MG GARAGE! WE WILL NOT BE USING MERVYN STEWARTS AGAIN AND WILL BE CONTACTING SUZUKI. WHAT A SHAME THAT THE PLACE HAS GONE THE WAY IT HAS. IT LOOKS LIKE ITS CLOSING. GOING BY OTHER REVIEWS I HAVE READ ABOUT MERVYN STEWARTS IT LOOKS LIKE ITS THE SAME AT ALL ITS BRANCHES. BRING BACK THE OLD COMPANY. WE WILL BE TAKING OUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.
Went to mervyn stewarts and didn't know what car I wanted . Pat the salesman came an pointed all the works on car . Not pushy at all couldn't have been more helpful . I was intending to shop around but after Pat was so helpful I thought , this is the one . Pat even delivered car next day to my home which I appreciated . Definitely be back in few years .
Appalling. Simply appalling. Customer service is the worst I have experienced in 40 years of driving. I will never set foot in any of their showrooms again.
We bought from the used direct branch and they were grand when we were buying, the usual video-walk-around quickly delivered and friendly phone calls and follow ups.
In retrospect, suspicions should have been aroused when the car was presented for test drive with a flat rear tyre. But we trusted the company name… and that was our mistake. We bought the car, and were promised that the tyre would be sorted, a noticeable scratch would be professionally touched in, cherished plates would be ready to go on, and the car would be serviced.
Well, the car was picked up by my 82 year old father and it turned out that the scratch was not sorted, the tyre was still flat and there were no cherished plates. We were required to travel back to Belfast at our expense to have this sorted. The scratch was touched in on the spot by the salesman on the forecourt.
An issue appeared soon after with the car and at Mervyn Stewart’s behest, we were told to bring the car to main dealership to be sorted under manufacturers warranty. To our surprise, there was no evidence of the promised service either in the book or on the dealer’s computer system. Worse still, the brake discs were rusted and the pads were below the legal limit. My father had bought a car which, he was told, would not pass mot. As a pensioner he was required to pay £700 for the previously promised service and new discs and pads.
When we spoke to the salesman who sold us the car, his tone was defensive to the point of belligerence, replete with blanket denials and even suggesting at one point that other dealers were trying to drum up work. After an extended discussion, he eventually promised to speak to the service manager and return with an outcome. In the meantime we wrote directly to the general manager and requested that the money paid out by my father be refunded. All documentation was provided. As you can guess, no reply was forthcoming from either party. They were content to allow a pensioner to pay for the work that they knew needed completed.
After two weeks, my father attended an interview with citizens advice who spoke directly to Mervyn Stewart’s. The upshot was that they agreed to pay half of the bill as a”goodwill gesture”. A goodwill gesture for a situation for which they were entirely at fault. By this stage my father had no fight left and he took the offer.
So there you have it, a pensioner taken advantage of, a company who left him unsupported, victimised and without fight, and a car that required 10% of its value in immediate repairs.
An appalling lack of customer service from start to finish. The staff I dealt with were unwelcoming, and seem entirely uninterested in even the most basic standards of professionalism. I was made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a valued customer. There was no effort to acknowledge the significance of the purchase, no courtesy, no introduction, not even the bare minimum of polite engagement.
The individual handling the sale did not bother to introduce themselves, setting the tone for a completely impersonal and indifferent experience. Communication by phone and email was equally poor: dismissive, and at times outright rude. I could almost feel their eyes rolling. I was spoken to as if I knew nothing, with no willingness to offer help, guidance, or clarity.
This dealership operates as if customer satisfaction is an afterthought, and the attitude from staff suggests that they believe they are doing you a favour simply by responding. The entire experience was unprofessional, alienating, and a textbook example of how not to treat customers.
MAYHEM is the only word that can be described for this company. Bought a car from the Conlig branch off the Newtownards carriage way. I wish I’d kept driving and not turned off. And wish I’d read the reviews before i bought! There really should be an option for zero stars. I should have paid attention to the two AA recovery trucks dropping cars off in the short time I was there. Cars everywhere with no space to park probably all recovered in. Wish I’d opened my eyes. Car developed a fault 2 days after purchasing (engine light on and running rough). Tried to contact them to get it resolved and was met with a brick wall of going on a 2 month wait to even get the car looked at. Tried their other branches and was told exactly the same thing. Seems like they are creaking at the seams with cars of all shapes and sizes breaking down. Found out they are losing Skoda in the next few months as well. Totally understandable. Looks like they’ve had enough of Mervyn Stewart’s as well. Avoid! Wish I had!
Bought a car from them after recovering from a stroke, sales was stress free and very helpful. Car came with 6 month warranty, great. Brakes failed 4 months in and Mervyn Stewart said soonest they could do anything at all was 5 weeks. Needed the car for daily life and work and ended up having to organise repairs myself with a local BMW garage (few days lead time, 1 day fix) to the tune of £1300. Very stressful, directly affected my health and general wellbeing.
Chased many times but Mervyn Stewart flat refused to contribute to costs either via retrospective warranty claim or just general goodwill/standing over their reputation.
About as empathetic and helpful as a passport inspector in a banana republic. Take your business elsewhere if you can.
Bought a used Skoda Superb with a 6 month warranty in January. Only noticed the air conditioning not working recently as the temperatures have increased. Got in contact with Service and they refuse to cover it. No customer care at all. Avoid this place
Michael was very helpful when we bought our Mercedes GLC which is a lovely car and would recommend this company
The sign of a good dealer is when you have problems they listen and try to put it right and have the knowledge to do it. My Enyaq has had multiple error messages that go away when the car is restarted. They replaced the battery but I was still having intermittent errors which I just put up with ( buggy software) until this morning when I couldn’t get into the car to take my kid to school. After 30 minutes of trying, with both keys, the car finally opened as if nothing was wrong with it! Called Mervyn Stewart Boucher to get it booked in. Had to let the phone ring for several minutes to be told service was busy so she took my details and told someone from service would phone me back when they are free. They must not have had one minute free all day as…..Guess what no one called me back. So much for great customer service.
We are already a customer but had a phone call to tell us that it was a good idea to change as we had plenty of equity in our current vehicle. We made an appointment to come and discuss. When we turned up, they had no record of the appointment and put us with a salesman who was fairly clueless about the brand. We then went through the routine and they made us an offer which was fairly good. We went back two days later and the deal wasn't available. They failed to tell us that the summer offers had ended. Mervyn Stewart? - Complete time wasters!
Disappointed today with a service advisor told me I would have to pay to have my battery checked because I have taxi equipment in my car the car is 14months old and under warranty I have bought at least 20 vehicle of Mervyn Stewart and this is unacceptable
I bought my first EV and had lots of questions. Phil Russell listened patiently and carefully, making sure to understand my needs and requirements.
He was painstaking in offering me great options and making sure I understood everything fully.
In short, he was terrific and worked hard to get me the best trade in possible and the monthly payments that I could afford.
Thank you Phil, I am so happy with my MG4 long range Trophy.
We have been looking to upgrade our electric car to one with a bigger range and had heard that the MGs were a good option. Whilst visiting Ireland we had the time to look into it. Neil at Mervyn Stewart in Bangor was really helpful. He answered all our questions, and gave us a really good and knowledgeable tour of all the car's features even though we don't live nearby so can't easily buy from Bangor, so I just want to give a shout out to him and the team at Mervyn Stewart. A much better experience than the time I was researching an electric Smart a few years ago ,when another garage elsewhere didn't know the answer to any of our questions. If you're in Northen Ireland and are looking into electric cars I definitely recommend paying them a visit!
Bought a car from Mervyn Stewart MG Boucher and could not fault the service. An absolute pleasure to buy from.
Feb 2023. It has taken Mervyn Stewart SKODA Belfast a staggering 27 MONTHS to acknowledge my fault complaint and repair it. Mervyn Stewart refused to initially accept the fault, even after they tested it several times including several test drives over a 2 year period. Finally I had to record my final test drive on my phone to prove the fault and my initial complaint that I had made had made in 2020. In complete exhaustion and frustration I had to contact the CEO of SKODA UK to get involved. My complaint was upheld against Mervyn Stewart. This was the second Complaint Upheld letter I am in possession of against Mervyn Stewart, so have the evidence. They are by far the worst car dealer I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Never again! A tip for any customer who encounters the same issues I have had with Mervyn Stewart, if they fail to rectify your fault and you have purchased a car through PCP, contact VW Financial Services directly. Mervyn Stewart only supply your car, you actually buy it from the finance company and they are obliged to take your case on if you get no satisfaction from Mervyn Stewart. I have to say the senior technician was helpful, the owner of Mervyn Stewart was NOT. He even give contradictory information to the customer resolution executive at SKODA UK who was the case handler handling my fault.
Its no coincidence I am in possession of TWO COMPLAINT UPHELD LETTERS AGAINST MERVYN STEWART, ONE ABOUT A FAULT ON A NEW SKODA KAROQ PURCHASED AT MERVYN STEWART, BOUCHER CRES BELFAST AND THE SECOND ABOUT A NEW SKODA, KAROQ PURCHASED FROM MERVYN STEWART GREENWAY, BANGOR. The owner of Mervyn Stewart requested that I edit my first draft of this review,,,,, I wonder why??
Bought numerous cars from Mervyn Stewart group of franchises over the years and always had a great customer experience, especially when any issues arose with vehicles - always addressed with efficiency and speed. From sales through aftercare and service, I have found them all to be friendly and professional with all relevant aspects of car purchase and ownership well explained. Thanks for a 'no hassle' experience.
