I work for an independent IT Consultancy firm providing services to schools, and we have seen the whole gamut of visitor sign-in systems used by schools here in the UK.

We are introducing e-Reception Book to one of our schools that has been using a competitor's system (begins with I, used in lots of schools - and is rather clunky, expensive, fussy, and non-cloud-based). Our customers' needs have largely been determined by having used this competitor's system and are rather exacting, but I'm glad to say that the functionality provided by e-Reception Book appears to match - and in most cases exceed - that of the competitor's system.

If you work in schools, then you'll know what I mean: visitor sign-in systems for schools are much like the school's MIS - either really fully featured but horrendously clunky, or cloud-based and not quite flexible enough to fit the school's particular workflow. The reason these older systems get clunky is that they know they will lose customers unless they provide additional customisation options, which they do without ever stopping to refactor / rethink the product as a whole.

I definitely think e-Reception Book is treading that line carefully, and let's hope the system continues to evolve and cater for the different customisation needs of customers without growing into something unmanageable.

It's a shame that e-Reception Book doesn't make it clearer from the outset about the finer details of how their integration with the school's MIS (in this case, SIMS) works, because it's very nicely implemented. There are loads of options when it comes to how to deal with late pupils and writing that info back to the MIS. Also reporting is nice and simple, but functional; no pointless PDF reports, but the ability to export most tables displayed on screen as a CSV - which the school's business manager was happy with.

My expectations were that the software would come with some kind of reference doc, and so I found the onboarding process a little difficult as I personally had no visibility of what the software could do from the beginning, and so it took about 5-10 phone calls as the questions kept coming from the school, and a lot of making lists of questions. Their online support applet is really good, as it actually provides useful automated answers and also notifies someone to get in touch personally as well. Good news is that not a single requirement the school had was uncatered for. I was pleasantly surprised, because the school had a lot of little ways of doing things they wanted to be supported. Both Jodi and Lauren from Mediabase were able to assist with very detailed tech questions - not once was I told "I'll need to look into that and get back to you", they had the answers immediately to hand. 5 star from both of them!

Hopefully the software and service will continue to grow, and I would recommend it as the best sign-in system out there right now for schools.

A school I have been contracting for handed over a project to replace the current sign in systems with a new one (E-Reception). In all my years experience I have had very little involvement with these systems so the majority of it was all very alien to myself.

After explaining my situation to my assigned account manager Jo Ross they assured me that they would be there to help. True to there word I have been fully supported by Jo and the team at Mediabase. It has made challenges which at first seemed a little daunting very simple. All of my questions got answered clearly and Jo went above and beyond to ensure that each I really understood all the little extras involved.
