Good but no FIDO key = Not for high security projects

We've had a great experience with them for many years.
My only concern is that they do not provide a way to authenticate with FIDO keys. It's unfortunate because it makes the whole thing not-so-secure for projects that require a high level of security. Almost every bank and so many hosting companies use FIDO keys, it's been on Linode's requested features for years (by dozens of customers) but they haven't done anything about it.
Overall I would recommend for projects where security is not critical.

Bis jetzt sehr zufrieden

Bis jetzt bin ich sehr zufrieden. Leider kann ich meinen Vorrednern hier nicht ganz zustimmen. Akamai ist ein sehr großes Hosting Unternehmen, viele Kunden aus dem Enterprise Bereich sind hier gehostet z.B. die Deutsche Bahn. Von Linode bzw. Akamai einen Preis zu verlangen wie von Strato, Hetzner, Contabo und Co ist denke ich grundsätzlich der falsche Ansatz. Akamai betreibt sehr aktuelle Systeme, so bekommt man anders als bei anderen Anbietern hier auch top aktuelle Milan CPUs von AMD, sehr gut! Viele scheine hier zu vergessen, dass der Preis unterschied von einer Rome und Milan CPU gigantisch ist, teilweise mehrere hundert Prozent teurer. Daher sind die virtuellen Maschinen, welche man bei Linode anmieten kann, auch ein Stück teurer, zu Recht wohlgemerkt! Die Systeme sind nicht ganz billig, aber die Infrastruktur unten drunter macht einfach den Unterschied. Über DDOS Attacken mache ich mir gerade bei Akamai recht wenig sorgen, da das hauseigene Netz so gigantisch ist, dass quasi jeder Angriff, jeder Größe abgefiltert werden kann. Sowas können sonst nur Anbieter wie CloudFlare von sich sagen. Nebendran betreibt Akamai noch eines der, wenn nicht sogar das größte CDN weltweit. Auch die Anbindungen in andere Regionen ist meist sehr gut, in der Regel hab ich hier mehrere Gigabit in Europa und den USA und so knapp 1 Gbit nach Asien. So eine Abdeckung wird man bei anderen Anbietern nicht finden, bzw. vermutlich, nur wenn man in die Richtung GCP, Azure und AWS guckt, welche nochmal deutlich teurer sind.

Wer ein paar Euro als Privatanwender zu viel hat, der wird mit Linode sicherlich glücklich, auch wenn ich mir persönlich noch das ein oder andere Feature wünschen würde, wie z.B. RWX Support für den LKE Stack.

Zusammengefasst ein guter Anbieter mit ein wenig Luft nach oben, was die Features angeht ;) weiter so!

Stole my money

Stole my money. I got a notification today from my bank mentioning that linode charged me, while I am no longer using it, i just used linode few months ago once, and there are no credits and appearing. I am being charged while showing 0$ in my dashboard.

The way Linode billing works, you are charged for services on your account even if they are powered off or if you're not using them. My account was suddently closed

My account was suddently closed, with no notice, no way to appeal. Totally deleted. I tried to reach to them via mail and never got a response. Total unprofessional and unreliable.

Instant rejection for "fraudulent behaviour"

First time registering after watching NetworkChuck, recommending this site and I get a signup rejection immediatly for "fraudulent behaviour" after filling in my details correctly with my card information. Horrible time wasting company. Stay away!

Werben mit 100$ Bonus, welchen man dann aber nicht für ihre Server mit GPU-s nutzen kann. Man muss erst selbst 100$ einzahlen um diese "besonderen" Server zu nutzen. Sehr enttäuschend.

I cant even sign up

I cant even sign up, kept getting rejected by "automated system" for "fraudulent patterns" like what the hell????? I tried paypal credit and debit card and all got rejected, linode is racist just cuz i'm not from the USA doesnt mean i'm a fraud! I sent them support e-mail no response at all. I heard linode was good but looks like it's a scam wont even let me use it

Linode is a bad apple

I tired hosting two WordPress sites on linode. They worked fine for about 2 weeks and then I started getting a 404 litespeed error. Could not even access the admin section to either make a maintenance page or even take a backup.

All ssl certs were issued just fine and cyberpanel access worked and showed no errors in logs. Just magically stopped working. No reason that I could find.

When site was accessed, it kept throwing an ssl error with the root domain cert pointing to the mail sub domain cert. Even a hard reboot of the servers did not fix the problem.

Again, the sites were working fine for two weeks. No changes were made. Just happened for no reason I can ascertain.

Moving both sites to vultr, where I have 8 other sites. Linode was an experiment that failed miserably.

Do not touch.

Where is customer support?

We have a load balancer that equally distributes tasks across 7 servers, suddenly 1 of those servers is taking 100% CPU while the rest are taking 30% for the same load. This has negatively impacted performance. I opened a ticket more than 16 hours ago, no reply yet...

Edit: Is the ticketing system broken? - When did the process change from creating a ticket to needing to call?

False Advertising, Terrible Support

They advertised that they are giving free $100 credit. But, if we signup, they cancel our signup without even allowing us to know why they cancelled our account. Additionally, we are unable to contact them via email or phone. I sent an email, no response. Tried to call, no one pick up the call. Worst experience! Linode = Sh*** Support. Stay away from this fraud company, guys!

I have been a customer from more than 10 years, have a dozen of VMs with them. Product is overall ok. But they are very, very bad at support. My main VM went down today because of some HW issue, they simply don't answer any messages, I don't have any idea on what they are doing and for how long we'll be out. Awful communication. And it was the same on previous issues. Can't recommend them, and will have to find an alternative.

Lots to like

Lots to like with them after moving from a competitor. Value pricing and they are way better at batting off fake DMCA notices and take due care to only follow through if it's correct and valid. Other hosts take clearly abusive reports and treat them seriously.

All good , but I get an email returned within 10 minutes basically saying I am a criminal, denied an account and warned not to re-apply. No explanation , basically BIG BROTHER. Both email and phone i have had for a long time.

My record is so clean i do not even have a parking ticket in the last 10 years so what gives. I understand whats going on here. The social CREDIT score is activated. THIS IS PLAIN DENIAL OF SERVICE based on nothing. PERIOD.

This company was acquired by acquired by Akamai Technologies on March 21, 2022.[ We effectively live in China, this is outrageous. This is not the only account i had problems with.
