Complaint Regarding Unacceptable Customer Service
I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the way my case has been handled by your customer support team.
I mistakenly initiated a payment through Flywire instead of using the intended payment method. As soon as I realized the mistake, I contacted my bank, who informed me that the transfer had already been approved but had not yet been received by Flywire. They advised me to contact Flywire immediately, as only Flywire could stop or cancel the transaction at that stage.
I acted immediately. I sent emails explaining the situation in detail and attempted to contact your customer service team by phone multiple times. Unfortunately, none of my calls were answered, and my emails went unanswered for four days.
What is most frustrating is that I only received a response a few minutes after Flywire had received the funds. At that point, I was informed that the payment had already been processed and that if I wanted a refund, I would be charged a 1% refund fee. On top of that, I had already lost a significant amount due to the exchange rate, meaning I would suffer an even greater financial loss through no fault other than an honest mistake that I tried to correct immediately.
Had your customer service team responded promptly when I first contacted you, this situation might have been avoided entirely. Instead, I received no assistance until after the payment had been processed, leaving me with no practical option but to accept substantial financial losses.
I find this level of customer service deeply disappointing. As a company that handles large international tuition payments, I expected timely communication and genuine support, especially when a customer reports an urgent issue immediately. Instead, I felt ignored until it was too late to resolve the problem.

Once a bank transfer has been approved by the sending bank, Flywire is unable to stop or cancel the transfer while it is still in transit. At that stage, we must wait until the funds are received. Once the payment reaches Flywire, the funds belong to the receiving institution based on the payment instructions provided. Any refund request must therefore be reviewed and approved by the receiving institution according to their refund policy.
We understand that timely communication is important, especially when a payment issue feels urgent. We appreciate your feedback regarding your attempts to reach our team and will share it with the appropriate teams as we continue working to improve our support experience.

Flywire is more expensive than traditional bank transfers
Flywire can be considerably more expensive, in Viet Nam, than traditional bank transfers, with the same kinds of papers, but longer communication time as they are just a middle man and still have to depend on their partner banks who do the real transactions.
In addition, their online support also takes time, despite the advertised 24/7 service.
If you don't care about money, Flywire's only advantage is working online - you don't need to go to a bank.

"Card Fees" are crazy
Flywire was the only available option for me to pay for my student accommodation. Keyword student - money is tight at the best of times. Over £300 in card fees is robbery by any standard especially when its the only option available! Feels especially sneaky when at no point up to payment was such a fee communicated. Not to mention their exchange rates are crazily overinflated. Avoid if at all possible.
