Extranomical Tours, founded in 2002, is a San Francisco sightseeing tour company that specializes in tours for people who generally do not like to take tours. Our clientele is very independent and likes to venture to places where most tour companies don't go to. Due to the small size of our groups, our guests receive a more personalized and exclusive experience from us. Our tours offer a distinct "traveling with friends" feel, so that most people interact with each other and so we are able to visit locations larger vehicles do not. For example, we have a short hike up to the Giant Sequoia grove on our one day Yosemite tour from San Francisco. On our California wine country tours, we visit small family-owned boutique wineries (too small for large buses) that produce such limited quantities you can only buy their wine at their winery!
We are fully insured and licensed by the State of California Public Utilities Commission and are regulated and inspected annually by the California Highway Patrol. We are proud members in good standing at the San Francisco Travel Association. All of our drivers are drug tested at the time of hire as well as at random times throughout the year. We make sure that our vehicles are always in excellent mechanical condition by inspecting daily and keeping a rigid maintenance schedule.
We train all of our guides one-on-one to make sure that they are knowledgeable, courteous, and most of all, safe. All of our guides are also friendly, informative, and experienced. We test drivers on a periodical basis on their knowledge of the areas we visit. We also maintain a training program and a resource library for guides to stay current on relevant material.
We carefully select the locations we explore on our tours to maximize your time and see the best of the best, while always maintaining an adventurous yet easy-going atmosphere. On our tours we have a comfortable amount of time where you are with the group, but we also give you enough time on your own so you can choose from different activities that interest you such as hiking, shopping, museums, or just taking in the beauty.

Randall was a great guide
Randall was a great guide, he was very insightful and very knowledgeable of the locations visited and the wine scene. A bit more time on the sonoma plaza would've been nice and the cleaning of the vehicle took a bit of our tour time, not in Randall's control but rather on extranomical side.

Great time at Wine Country
My friend and I had an amazing time around Sonoma and Napa. Mayo Winery was my favourite, all their wines were amazing!!! Randall was our guide and driver, and he’s awesome. Very knowledgeable, gave us amazing tips, and accommodated everyone’s requests, great guy.

Well-Organized and Memorable Day at Yosemite!
We had an amazing experience with Extranomical Tours — everything was incredibly well-organized from start to finish. The communication was top-notch, with constant WhatsApp updates, reminders, and emails keeping us informed every step of the way. They even sent a photo of the bus beforehand, so there was no confusion about which one to board — such a thoughtful touch!
There were plenty of convenient pick-up point options. Our tour bus, driven by Keith, arrived exactly on time — down to the minute. The entire day ran like clockwork, with the schedule maintained perfectly throughout.
The Yosemite tour included several breathtaking stops with stunning views — a true feast for the eyes and the soul. And given how long the day was, it was reassuring to know that a second driver was on board just in case Keith needed a break. That level of consideration for safety really stood out.
Keith himself was fantastic — friendly, funny, approachable, and incredibly knowledgeable. He made the experience all the more enjoyable with his commentary and great energy.
I highly recommend Extranomical Tours — and especially Keith — to anyone planning a visit to Yosemite National Park. You won’t be disappointed!

Action packed day at Yosemite
The tour was a great experience, with all major sites at Yosemite covered during the day. Our guide Dustin was funny and knowledgeable, told us a lot about the history of Yosemite and the gold rush. Only thing I would improve is the communication for people joining in from San Jose, there were some misunderstandings. Great value otherwise!

Great if you’re time limited
If you’re time limited and want to see as much of San Francisco city as possible, the 4 hour tour is great way to do this. Our tour leader, Randall, was really knowledgable and gave a great all round tour. We got time to walk around at some of the main sites too. Great job Randall!

Andy earned 5 stars!
I would give our tour guide, Andy, 5 stars. He did an excellent job the entire time despite it being what I’m sure was an extremely long day for him. I didn’t like that when booking the tour it said there would be hotel pick up, yet we were assigned a car rental location for our pick up. The location was just a block or so from our hotel but when your tour leaves before daylight and returns after dark, actual hotel pick up would be appreciated. The only other negative was that the bus was not comfortable.

We understand your concern about the pick-up point. While we offer several around the city, we can’t stop at every hotel as it would cut into the time spent in Yosemite, given the long drive.
