As of early 2026, Equifax is facing several legal and regulatory actions regarding alleged illicit and deceptive practices.

Major Recent Lawsuits and Penalties (2025–2026)
CFPB $15 Million Penalty (January 2025): The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) ordered Equifax to pay $15 million for failing to properly investigate consumer credit disputes.

It’s time to shut this inadequate credit reporting agency down! Please continue to look for current law suits in reference to the inadequate and illegal activity as they sell private information and request that consumers pay for their services if you want them to update credit information.

TIME FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT …

Time to create a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT Against EQUIFAX. There is nothing fair or trustworthy about this company. Everyone listed here has had a terrible experience with this company.

I will begin the process if it not already is started. Will advise everyone in my next review update.

The worst of the three credit companies. Equifax does not update information unless you are a paying customer to the Equifax app.

This should be illegal to be responsible for consumers credit ratings based upon receiving payment or not.

The worst. Don’t trust these guys at Equifax - I called them to find out why they gave me a low rating.

I just paid off my balances on three credit cards and two personal loans that totaled $45,000.00. They dinged my credit for vbeing late on a high interest card which I was waiting for a pay off sum when I inquired.

ZERO STARS if that was possible. My report shows outdated and incorrect information even after loans were closed long ago. Fixing anything is impossible.

A credit bureau should be accurate and reliable - this one was neither. Your credit score affects real life, and mistakes here cost people money and stress. Very disappointing!

You’ve got to be kidding me

Recently tried to get credit with EE for a phone contract. £72 per month. I have a near perfect credit score - with a salary over £110,000, including £20,000 in savings. You can’t buy contract phones without credit or I’d just buy outright. It’s clearly a data input error but no such answers from EE - just blaming equifax. No caller contact to resolve quickly causing disruption to my personal and business life. Even folk on the doll can get a contract - embarrassing.

Applied for a Home Depot credit card

Applied for a Home Depot credit card, HD used Equifax. I have lived and worked in NY state forever.
I have a 825 credit rating and have my busines for 30+ years in NY state.

Equifax reported my business as being in San Fransisco with zero financial history. They still haven't fixed it and still nho HD credit card.

Equifax incompetent

I have never had such a bad experience with any company like Equifax customer service. I called because I check my credit constantly. I noticed that in Dec I had a good score and when I check in Jan out of no where my score went down 40 points and there is no reason any where. I checked transunion and all is fine also in Experian. I called customer service and Rep who obviously had no clue what he was doing tells me that my score went down because of an account that hadn't been reported to my credit 10 years ago. I informed I have never paid anything late in my life everything is on autopay and how is it that something of 10 years ago can be added now that makes no sense. He actually tells me el that's what it is like it or not. I hung up called again and got this lady that actually said I don't see any reason for your score to have gone down like that it must be another system issue I'm going to open a ticket please call back in 5 days. I called they said yes a ticket was item but nothing can be down. They sent me a copy of my credit report which shows absolutely nothing wrong yet they screwed up my score and I had to live with it. This is the worst company ever and should really be liked into in a deep investigation. Thank God I'm able to prove my score with Transunion and Experian who haven't screwed up my information. Customers should have the option to pick what companies should keep their credit score and I'm sure Equifax would be out of business within a month.

Arbitrary decisions based on BS reasons

I recently applied for a car loan after my older model car needed replacement. This was a car I had paid off nearly 7 years prior. I was turned down by Equifax for "Lack of recent auto finance loan information" and "Lack of recent installment loan information". Yet they rated my credit score at 847 according to the Notice of Adverse Action they sent explaining why they denied me credit.

So basically, I was penalized for being a good steward with my finances and having a car paid off and no other credit issues. If they can make such an arbitrary decision against someone with an almost 850 credit score, I truly feel sorry for anyone depending on this company for a fair assessment of their credit worthiness.

I attempted to obtain my free credit…

I attempted to obtain my free credit report and found the process unnecessarily cumbersome and intrusive.

I was required to provide three forms of ID multiple times, complete three separate selfie verifications, and repeatedly re-enter information due to the AI system misreading my details.

I was then stuck in a repeating web loop with no clear resolution. The only communication I received was a generic email directing me back into the same broken process.

Attempting to lodge a complaint or get help through the website was equally frustrating — after multiple attempts, the submission button would not work, and the process led nowhere.

What should be a simple, legally entitled request became stressful and distressing. Very disappointing experience

Eqiuifax does the same Experian

They come come off like the advice they give is for your best interest. And most of the time it is. But who can tell you about the other side. I can Experian, Equifax , and TransUnion. Different companies one goal. To protect big business and make sure their options are many. Experian reported a debt collection verified for national credit adjust who bought it from speedy cash whomi had a payday loan with. 4/20/21 I borrowed $460.00 . 4/22/21 they took 686.61 out of my account. I called and said hey you took too much too soon. 128.22 was scheduled for 5/4/21 she said I couldn't get a refund but I could have another loan. I said no! Debt paid whatever.i have the bank statement where they took $ 686.61. I sent it to all the parties I mentioned. Speedy cash said you gotta talk to them we sold it. Speedy cash ignoring me as well. But that's what they do. They take and if they make a mistake. To save face it's oh well. The same with the credit bureaus. My bank of America account was frauded by an ex friend she made unauthorized withdrawals period changed my online id. Bank of America recognized something odd , sent the email come in the bankvwith two forms o
of id we will unlock your account. how my account got unlocked without me coming in I'll never know. But they do. You think they are going to admit they made a error? Oh no it's your fault Mr. Burkett. You have Fail-safes in place just for this particular scenario. But somehow you missed. Like Experian you didn't do an investigation. Because a real Investigation would I involve questioning the person that the investigation is about. The dispute process is flawed I answer question already taylored for the debt collectors and creditors, to weasel their way out of but in situation like mine the mistake is so gross and clear. Equifax is the worst credit bureau

Equifax is the worst credit bureau, they don't follow their business hours and its mostly Ai that answers calls. You get locked out of your account even after rigorous/ stringent verification and its such a huge waste of time repeating the whole process. Its almost 2026 and they never improve their customer service and system . Very very poor service!!!

I dont think they are worthy of one star, they are horrible. They do not fix anything. My self as well as others I know have had a time trying to make our credit better and everytime you get your score rising up to a good status a day or 2 later points were taking away when you are making all payments ontime and even before time is due.. They needs new system cause no one has an answer for issues presented to them..

This credit bureau is incompetent. When my credit utilization has dropped below 3% overall and the other bureaus have reflected the adjustment I noticed today they are still in the ice ages not making the adjustment and still sitting at 12%.Of course the fact that they are slow on the uptake affects the overall credit score which gives you an added bump up when you are below 10%.Below 30% is good but below 10% is better. I will say this. The most positive thing I can say is they don't do things deliberately...other than puppet TransUnion....who do deliberate acts to hurt people simply trying to lower patrons credit score... especially if they know you are tracking it. The game is to attempt to sell you credit cards or loans so they drive a kickback from them. Now we know this is attributed to them all however TransUnion keeps their thumb on the scale while Equifax only does so due to incompetence not deliberately. Their credit agency makes mistakes that are due to old archaic technically inefficient setup which seems to use developers who are fumbling around in the dark ages. I make this point because I am a developer who has issues with those who do not have pride in their jobs. I have another issue where Equifax had posted (and continues to) an older car loan as 60 days late on an occasion once again and untruth which I have all the proof showing it to be incorrect but taking an Act of God to get it corrected. It's posted by TransUnion to keep my score down but posted by Equifax simply copying TransUnion. They are like TransUnions little brother. While their online system seems to be broken and although the customer service people seem nice enough good luck getting them to correct anything. It seems they cant.I will continue to dispute innacuracies until I get the right set of eyes to look at it. Half of life is simply getting the right person on the phone or the right person to read a letter or email and take appropriate action. It's a crapshoot.

Complete rip-off

Complete rip-off. It's been 4 months and I cannot cancel my account because THEY recorded my birthday wrong. I can't cancel until I file a dispute to correct my birthday, which has been impossible, I have filed multiple disputes, called and been turned away with "there are no options other than to file a dispute". All the while, they keep charging me. No customer service and just a cash grab.

Day robbery

I don’t know why the government still allowed this company to manipulate the market and robbed its citizens and customers and get away with it without any investigations,
I was looking for a loan about £50000 and an agent introduced me to this company and offer me the loan not knowing it was a remortgage for 16 years and I was paying £560 a month until almost two years later I asked for my balance and it was 51000 after paying £560 for almost two years totally almost £14000 and l have to find money to pay almost all the balance

Title: Equifax Keeps Reporting False Information and Manipulating My Credit Score

Review:
I have been dealing with ongoing problems with Equifax for several years. Despite providing official documentation — including police reports, an FTC identity theft affidavit, and proof of address — Equifax continues to report false and inconsistent information that does not appear on my TransUnion or Experian files.

My Equifax credit score changes dramatically without reason, sometimes dropping over 60 points overnight even when nothing on my report has changed. Most recently, my score fell from 602 to 534 the day after applying for a small loan. This has become a consistent pattern that has caused multiple credit denials and financial hardship for me and my family.

Equifax refuses to remove inaccurate information related to a Bridgecrest account, continues to list an address I never lived at, and responds with automated replies instead of real investigations. I have filed complaints with the CFPB and the Florida Attorney General’s Office and will continue pursuing action.

Consumers deserve transparency and fair treatment. Equifax must be held accountable for inaccurate reporting, automated disputes, and unfair handling of consumer data.

I would give it no stars if that was an…

I would give it no stars if that was an option. I sat on hold for 86 minutes trying to get a “security” issue with my prepaid card resolved. I was one minute away for 15 minutes and then it seemed my call was picked up cause the recording stopped and after another 2 minutes I was disconnected. They suck ass big time. Don’t even bother with the call back option cause that just goes into the dark pit of hell with no return. I tried it 5 times.

Literally the worst

I cannot explain in words how much I loathe dealing with this company. The technology and customer support are outrageously outdated and awful. Freezing my credit seemed like a good idea until I found out what an unbelievable pain it is to freeze/unfreeze for credit card applications, loans, etc. Never again. "Just do it on the website" - sure...doesn't work. Have to talk to a live person EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Nope, I'm done, after too many hours of my life wasted.
