High interest rates

Ease of access to funds was very good. Interest rates offered are terrible. I got a loan for one of my daughters 6 months ago at around 9%. One month ago I got another loan for my other daughter at over 12%. I have a credit score over 800. No sense

Communication improvements

Wish I would have been notified about identifying myself instead of seeing my daughter loan was put on hold. If we wouldn’t have called we wouldn’t have known about it. Communication could be better but her loan was approved after so I guess everything is great

BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!!! I've been trying for an hour to get through and their phones aren't working....what? I also am having to make 100$ payments while in school, I never agreed too!!!!!!!! Makes no sense why I would agree to that, why wouldn't I take less then ..lmao it makes no sense

Dishonest advertised interest rates

The low interest rates you advertise are NOT the rates you give. Our credit scores are > 800 but we did not get the lowest rate offered.

Worst Financial Decision OML

Using College Ave was the worst financial decision I’ve ever made. They gave me an outrageously high interest rate (16%!!) and then permanently damaged my credit score over one single late payment.

The payment was marked late due to a bank error that falsely flagged it as fraud. I resolved the issue immediately, explained the error to them, and paid well before the 90-day mark. None of that mattered. College Ave reported it right away despite false claims on their website stating that nothing would be reported until after the 90-day mark; that was a lie. It hit my credit immediately, despite the fact that I paid the balance quickly and have made every single payment on time ever since. Years later, my credit score is still suffering because of their decision.

I now know that many student loan companies accept goodwill letters; in other words, they will erase late payments if it's a one time thing, you provide a reasonable explanation, and (especially) if you have a strong history of on-time payments. Not College Avenue!! I chose one of the only loan companies that offers 0 grace. Lucky me lol!

Their lack of communication is just as bad. Every month is a guessing game as to how much they’ll pull from my account. Is it $25? $68? $110? $1,000?? There is no consistency and no explanation.

For example, I was supposed to be paying $68/month while I was in school for one loan. The next month, they decided to withdraw $110. When I called to ask why, I was told they actually hadn’t taken the full amount the previous month, so they simply added it to the next payment. Huh??? The unpredictability is unprofessional. This is supposed to be a "legitimate" company? You cannot arbitrarily change withdrawal amounts from someone’s bank account for fun. While some people may have the luxury of ignoring unpredictable withdrawals from their bank account, I don't.

To make matters worse, the customer service representatives seem confused themselves. They regularly have no answers to my questions and just apologize profusely without fixing the problem. Getting a straight answer is nearly impossible.

Avoid this company. They’re careless with your time, your credit, and your money.
