The British Offshore Sailing School (BOSS) is an established RYA sailing school based at Hamble Point Marina on the River Hamble, with direct access to the Solent and the English Channel. BOSS has been delivering practical sailing training, shorebased courses, cruises and intensive training programmes for more than 30 years. Since 1993, our aim has been not simply to help people gain sailing qualifications, but to develop capable, confident and self-reliant sailors with the practical experience and judgement needed to use those qualifications properly. We provide RYA practical training from introductory courses through Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster level, alongside shorebased navigation courses, specialist masterclasses and advanced training. Our location in Hamble gives students access to one of the busiest and most varied sailing areas in the UK, providing excellent opportunities to develop boat handling, navigation, pilotage, seamanship and decision-making in realistic conditions. Offshore experience is an important part of what we do. BOSS courses and cruises are designed to provide genuine time at sea rather than simply completing exercises close to the marina. Depending on the programme, sailors may experience cross-Channel passages, night sailing, coastal navigation and cruising to destinations including the Channel Islands, Normandy, Brittany and the West Country. Our sailing cruises combine the enjoyment of visiting different destinations with the opportunity to build experience and confidence underway. They are suitable for sailors who want more sea time, those preparing for higher qualifications, or anyone who simply wants to develop their skills while enjoying a longer cruising programme. BOSS is also well known for its Fastrak training programmes. These provide structured, intensive sailing development for people who want to progress more quickly towards advanced qualifications, including Yachtmaster Offshore. Fastrak combines formal RYA training with substantial practical experience, offshore passages and increasing responsibility onboard. The emphasis is on developing seamanship, judgement, confidence and command ability, rather than simply collecting certificates. We work with a wide range of customers, from complete beginners and leisure sailors through to those planning maritime careers, career changes, gap years, extended cruising or yacht ownership. Although qualifications are an important part of sailing development, we believe experience matters just as much. Our approach is therefore practical and progressive: learn the skills, apply them in real situations, build experience and develop the confidence to make sound decisions afloat. Whether you are taking your first steps into sailing or working towards Yachtmaster level, our goal is to provide challenging, enjoyable and worthwhile training that helps you become a better sailor. We remain a small, personal sailing school where customers are treated as individuals.
