Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service, will never book with Airbnb again. My host cancelled my reservation a week before my check-in date and I had to scramble to find another accommodation. Airbnb was the least helpful. They offered to find another listing, but everything that was available was minimum $1000 more than what I paid for the initial booking. They did not offer any discount for booking a new accommodation, as they claimed the original booking was a "rare find that is truly up to your preferences". Fortunately I was able to find another place but still had to pay almost $800 more for the trip than originally planned due to the cancellation. To top things off I can't even leave a negative review on the host that cancelled as per Airbnb's policies, the ability to leave a review is only activated upon checkout. They suggested I contact the host directly, as if that will do any good. This is the first and last time I will book with Airbnb.
Injured for life after renting a luxury…
Injured for life after renting a luxury Airbnb in Mexico. The Hamic broke and sent me flying down to the concrete. Life changing injury 72 hours to accept $5000 and no lawyer will take the case
Total Harassment - Never again!
Terrible experience with customer service!!! We went on a two-day vacation. There were problems with the accommodation so we sought alternate arrangements. In trying to resolve our concerns, throughout our two-day VACATION we received TWENTY emails, from SIX different support ambassadors (and no, I am not exaggerating). Almost everyone had a "contact us within 4 hours" or the case will be closed message, yet they were not prompt in their responses. One message even stated that my account was red-flagged. For what?
In short - a two-day getaway was tarnished by this exceedingly inconsiderate, inadequate, and overall very poor customer service. I won't book with them again.
Airbnb broke a verbal agreement
We are a party of 4 that booked Hayato place from July 9-10. Our error :We booked for 1 person when it was 4, but I told the guy afterwards we were 3 people which is recorded in chat. One person stayed backed and the door was locked while us 3 left. At 2:30 am we arrived back to the place however the keys did not work. We tried for hours and contacted the host immediately however he did not respond so we called Airbnb who told us to book a hotel, which they would partly fund and give us a refund on the airbnb due to a faulty key. Before we called them we called the host who id not respond, and we told them we would call the cops and they told us to instead book the hotel, they assured us we would be fully refunded for the Airbnb and be partially refunded for hotel. We have been partially refunded for the hotel $96 however, we have not received the refund that was promised to us. This is illegal as they are breaking a verbal contract. When we expressed this to the team they said, the host can only give a refund and he refuses due to the fact one person stayed in the room. However, the keys to his apartment did not work which we have documented proof of. We were only able to get into the apartment because the doors were open upon arrival. Airbnb has lied and deceived us promising us one thing and then doubling down. I am considering taking this to court if it doesn’t get resolved as they stated!!!!!!!!!
Not surprised to see Airbnb rank so…
Not surprised to see Airbnb rank so poorly on customer service both on the host and guest side. It's time people move on to other platforms. Had a guest leave us a poor review despite no issues and even contradicting themselves. Brought to Airbnb's attention, told it didn't violate their policies and Airbnb doesn't validate the truth. Funny their policy says you agree to provide an honest and truthful review of your experience.
Do not trust the reviews on Airbnb
Do not trust the reviews on Airbnb. If the host disagrees with you, they can have your review "permanently deleted"
I booked a condo in Toronto downtown…
I booked a condo in Toronto downtown for 4 nights and the host didn’t put full details in her description that condo will be shared!! I had to figure it out by myself, I canceled right away because i do not feel comfortable sharing space with strangers especially during COVID time!!! I canceled the booking the same day I booked it!! I asked the host for a refund but she indirectly said no!! I went straight to customer service to ask for a refund but they said the host has all the power in order to give you a refund. I personally think that’s really dumb to give the hosts all that power for refund. Airbnb and the host DID NOT SUPPORT ME OR GIVE ME ANYTHING!!! I lost all the money I spent on that booking!!! NEVER AGAIN AM I USING AIRBNB!!!
Airbnb did nothing to help!~
Airbnb did nothing to help our situation, they only side with the hosts, we paid over $2300 for 11 nights, stayed for 2 as the place was not suitable, it was not 3 bedrooms as described, the balcony room was cold and constant noise from the street, the door didnt lock, the other one described as a den was a converted closet, too small for an adult. The host stated the homeless people were harmless, we were approached a couple of times where we felt unsafe so we left!
I would not recommend Airbnb or this Host.
Customer service, Host and company are a joke
Booked a 4 month stay with Airbnb in an apartment in Toronto with a host called Shane. What a mistake that was! When we arrived we were horrified by what we saw. After finally getting our keys with no help from the host we opened the apartment door to find a dark, dismal and utterly disgusting apartment. It was unclean and unkept it still had items left from a previous booking their. upon further inspection nearly all the light were broken or without bulbs. mirrors were filthy, no curtains on windows, marks all over floors, filthy cupboards, shower rails hanging off walls, no wifi, dirty wardrobes with broken doors it was just a thing from nightmares. we took photos and left. After reporting this to the host we were told "This isn't a 4 star seasons hotel what do you expect" reported this to airbnb and we`ve been told we do not get a refund for our stay. Absolutely appalling i would advise anyone not to use airbnb in Canada.
Cancellation Policies are abusive
Gives way too much power to the hosts to abuse if they so please. They allow for abhorred cancellation policies even during this pandemic. I just had a host keep over $2000 CAD when I had to cancel my trip because of Covid-19. This host didn't even provide me with any service, and ignored any communication I tried to make before we had to cancel. He literally STOLE that money because I did not get anything in return for it. What a garbage service.
AIRBNB unreliable for booking
For the second time in 2 years an AIRBNB reservation I made well in advance of a stay has been cancelled by a host.
AIRBNB can not be used as a reliable platform for holiday planning and you take great risk of your plans being disrupted when you book AIRBNB's
I made bookings 2 years in a row 6 months or more in advance of a stay only to have one owner cancel days before our arrival.
AIRBNB has no mechanisms in place to ensure reliability of it's listings offered and you take great risk when you book your holidays with them.
The latest cancelation they didn't even compensate in any way for the trouble and inconvenience this has caused. They even suggested it was my fault for not communicating in advance more with the host to ensure the propert's reliability. I actually had communicated a lot with the host prior to booking and again 5 months after the booking I get a surprise that it is no longer available for my stay.
HORRIBLE Experience in Rome
HORRIBLE Experience in Italy with AirBnB! Our nightmare began when we rented a house in Tuscany and it didn't actually belong to the person listed on the listing. We were left with no accommodation or place to go 24 hours before arriving at our AirBNB in Tuscany. Air BNB rightfully refunded our full amount after several calls and many repeated conversations with AirBNB ambassadors and bots. We were distraught and stressed, and were given a $40 coupon to spend as compensation for our time/inconvenience. Unfortunately things just escalated for the worse as we verwere left with very limited options for accomodations given the last minute booking. Instead of going to Tuscany as planned, we were forced to stay in Rome which was not where we wanted to be.
We decided to put our trust in Air BNB (biggest mistake!!) and booked a "Room in a Boutique Hotel" in Rome with a woman named Ida who is certified as a Superhost with 8 reviews at the time. We trusted AirBNB and their "Superhost" concept and expected much more than what was delivered. Given the terrible AirBNB experience less than 24 hours prior where we were left to find a booking last minute in Rome (where we did not intend to be but had no choice given the situation from the day before), we put our full trust in AirBNB and decided to use the coupon that was offered to us for the AirBNB mix up. Ironically, my husband wanted to book a hotel given the previous negative occurrence but I insisted on going through AirBNB and trusted that the Superhost would not disappoint. She did! Not to mention when I tried speaking to her about the situation, she was not kind or accommodating. Instead she was extremely rude and belligerent, and sent me a text stating I was crazy. This behaviour from an AirBNB superhost, or anyone, is simply unacceptable!
To be specific: we were told it was a room in a boutique hotel. By any definition on planet earth Ida’s unit was not anything resembling a boutique hotel. It was a renovated 2-bedroom apartment with a kitchen in a run down building.
The other huge problem is that when we arrived we did not meet the hostess. Instead we were guided through a phone call to enter the 2 bedroom apartment and coached to just ‘walk in’. Self-check in was not listed on the AirBNB post. Inside the apartment, we found a locked door which led to the second bedroom. When we tried opening it we heard a man respond from inside the room. This strange man spoke a foreign language but would not open the door. Either way, we both felt extremely uncomfortable and threatened by this strange situation. Not to mention, traveling during a global pandemic and having to share an apartment with a complete stranger is completely 100% unacceptable! It should have been clearly disclosed by Ida that we were booking a SHARED room/apartment with another occupant!
We left the unit immediately and called the woman named Ida and Airbnb. Our booking was cancelled and a refund was given to us immediately for $176.64 but we are still out of pocket $230.80. Subsequently, we were forced to find a last minute hotel nearby and paid another $500 for two nights.
AirBNB listened to our grievances but the host refused to refund our money. Everyone we spoke to at AirBNB agreed when they heard our story and that this was not a Boutique Hotel by any stretch of the imagination. They assured us that we would be reimbursed and were very apologetic. I have ongoing, endless correspondence from bots and AirBNB ambassadors and we still have not spoken directly with management (as per my many requests) or anyone else. Furthermore, Ida the not so "Superhost" has written a FALSE review saying I was abusive. I was not abusive in any way. WE LEFT IMMEDIATELY and contacted AirBNB! I was upset about a stranger in the apartment especially since this was not disclosed to us nor listed in the AirBNB listing. We had no idea that we would be sharing an apartment with someone. We would NEVER have booked it!
NOT a Boutique HOTEL!!!! We are very disappointed and disgusted with AirBNB's handling of our complaint. Shame on you!
Vacation stay was a basement apartment
Thought we were getting an ‘entire house/apt’ as the ad mentioned but got a musty, damp basement. Pool and deck was beautiful but everything else was not as advertised. Could smell cannabis everyday we were there. Host Tina appeared nice but turned out to be sneaky and for sure knows what she is doing. Renting under false pretences for a money grab. This is what Airbnb protects.
Definitely not As Advertised in Halifax NS…
I'm renting an Airbnb in Halifax NS right now. It's definitely not the flat that was in the pics. It was suppose to be a one bedroom, with kitchen and bathroom. It's actually a bachelor with an extremely small bathroom. If I was any bigger I wouldn't be able to use the shower. They spent exactly 5 minutes cleaning it before I came in, ( I was here when they did it) I spent 2 days cleaning it after that. There are mice which I told them about. They put one sticky strip outside in the hallway and that's it so needless to say there is still several mice in here every day. I had to buy a mattress cover because the mattress is extremely dirty. I had to get my own towels, face cloths and dish towels. I also had to get my own dinner plates. The kitchen table in here is suppose to have 4 glass inserts in the top of it but one is broken so theres a big piece of hard white plastic covering it instead. The smoke detector has been ripped from the ceiling. There is garbage all over the place outside of the building as well. It is advertised that there is a backyard that people renting here can use. After you arrive you are told that only one of the units, unit 2 is allowed to use the back yard. The city compliance officer came by the other day and taped a notice to the front door for them to clean up the back yard or they would be fined $10,000. The garbage back there is unbelievable- everything from old beds to old washing machines to pillows and rusty bed frames.
airbnb deceptive pricing
I'm voicing a complaint about airbnb's deceptive practices.
I booked a reservation on airbnb.ca
The dollar amount seemed reasonable to us and we assumed that since were were on the Canadian airbnb.ca site the price stated was in Canadian dollars.
Once the reservation was made we got an email receipt stating the amount was in US dollars.
This made the total amount for the reservation much higher than we had planned.
No where in the lead-up to making the reservation did it state that the dollar amount would be in US dollars.
When I phoned to make an inquiry, the service rep stated that airbnb defaults the amount to US dollars unless you go into a link and make changes. Even if you are on the Canadian airbnb.ca website. The link to make changes is a circle in the upper right hand corner of the web page. It is not labeled.
This seems to be a practice specific to airbnb. Other travel sites such as Booking.com clearly state the currency you will be charged in.
I plan to lodge a complaint against airbnb with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau of Canada.
I also plan to post a reviews on various websites about this deceptive airbnb practice.

No refund for not staying
I made a reservation through Airbnb on December 24th and paid $2,653.94 ( Address 16 Durham street. Kingston) for one month. I was told it was refundable if I cancel before March 4th. I cancelled on February 23rd 2021, before the mentioned date due to Covid as my child was supposed to accompany with me to Kingston. It is very unsafe for us to travel so we decided to cancel the trip. After I cancel the trip, instead of receiving a refund they charged me again for $758.91. So in total they charged my credit card for $3,412.85 because I cancelled due to a PANDEMIC. After a run around between the Airbnb and the host, I am told that I do not receive a refund. Three is a Pandemic doing on and instead of helping their clients, they are robbing them.

Stay away from this place. Totally dishonest. Promises refund if rented and does not honor it. Stay away during Covid Lockdown.
