Excellent customer experience

I was on-line looking for a replacement power pack for a rather old computer and Thunder Store had exactly what I needed. They responded very quickly and I received the unit, very well wrapped, with free delivery and at a very good price. Thank you Thunder Store.

Misleading Specs, Screen Scratches, and Late Shipping – Avoid This Seller

I purchased a MacBook Pro from this store based on their listing, which clearly stated it had a 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU. After receiving the device, I found it actually had an 8-core CPU and 14-core GPU — a completely different configuration than advertised.

To make matters worse, the screen had visible scratches that were never disclosed in the product description. This is unacceptable for a high-end device advertised as being in great condition.

The store also promised overnight shipping on their website, yet it took 5 days for the device to arrive — another broken promise that added to the overall frustration.

Because I trusted their listing, I missed out on a far better MacBook that sold during the delay, thinking I had already secured the right machine. While I was refunded, that doesn't undo the fact that they wasted my time, damaged my trust, and cost me a better opportunity.

A refund doesn’t fix the consequences of misleading advertising, hidden damage, and broken delivery promises. If you're shopping for a high-spec machine, be extremely cautious. I won’t be buying from them again.

Edit: Thank you for your response. I want to clarify a few key points that your reply does not adequately address:

- Specifications & Accuracy of Listing

The difference between an 8-core CPU / 14-core GPU and a 10-core / 16-core is not minor. Apple themselves price and position these models differently. I ordered and paid for the higher-spec machine — receiving a lower-spec unit is a material misrepresentation, not a small error.

Whether or not a refund was eventually issued, the fact remains that I did not receive what I paid for. This undermines trust in your listings.

- Condition of the Device

The laptop I received did in fact have visible scratches on the screen. Dismissing this by saying I “never reported it” is not acceptable — the issue existed at the time of delivery and should not be brushed aside.

Refurbished does not mean “damaged.” Reasonable cosmetic wear is one thing, but scratches on the screen fall below the standard most customers (and consumer law) would accept.

- Delivery & Expectations

While you mention Kogan’s timelines, your listing language created the impression of faster delivery. Regardless, this is secondary to the core issue: the wrong specification device was shipped.

- Consumer Rights & Responsibility

Under New Zealand’s Consumer Guarantees Act, products must match their description and be of acceptable quality. This purchase failed on both counts.

A refund, while necessary, does not erase the fact that my time and trust were wasted. It is not simply “feelings” — it’s about confidence in the accuracy of what your business is selling.

Your order was placed via Kogan, which uses Kogan’s delivery estimates and our Kogan-store warranty (our website has different terms). On our own site we do not promise “overnight delivery”; we guarantee your order will be shipped within 24 hours and we met this deadline.
In this case, your order was delivered in 3 working days from Auckland to the South Island, which is standard timeframe for NZ deliveries.

Specifications
You received the exact same model you ordered — a 14-inch MacBook Pro (2021) — M1 Pro, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD. The only difference was that it had an 8-core CPU / 14-core GPU instead of 10-core / 16-core. We acknowledged that error and processed a full refund straight away. While we understand the disappointment, reacting as though the entire laptop was “completely different” is an overstatement, as all other specifications matched exactly.

Condition
The MacBook you received had no scratches on the screen, and you never reported any such issue to us at the time. Because you purchased a refurbished device, a reasonable level of normal wear can be expected — which is why we always provide exact photos of each unit we sell, so buyers can clearly inspect the condition before purchasing. Thunder Store top notch service.

Thunder Store delivered exactly what they said they would do. Computer is actually better than advertised. Dispatched the next business day after ordering. Beautifully packed with extra bubble wrapping and shipped in a sturdy box. Shoddy courier service let Thunder Store down by not delivering by their claimed overnight service.
