Humiliating handling of unclear ride policy ruined our family day

We visited Thorpe Park as a family on 21 August 2026. Unfortunately, our day was significantly affected by the way an issue was handled at Nemesis Inferno.
After queuing for around an hour, I boarded the ride while wearing a removable sporting knee brace. A ride attendant raised this shortly before the ride was due to start. I offered to remove the brace and explained that I had full mobility without it. I fully understand that ride safety is important, but I asked to see or be told the relevant policy and it was not provided or clearly explained.

The situation then became unnecessarily confrontational. I was told that, because staff had seen me wearing the brace, I could not ride even if I removed it. I was also left with the impression that I may not be allowed on rides even if I returned on another day without it, which seemed illogical and unfair.

A public tannoy announcement was then made referring to knee braces after I had already left the platform. This drew attention to me and my knee brace in front of other guests and was embarrassing and upsetting. My wife and children were also affected by the way we were spoken to.

My wife asked how the policy would apply to her own wrist support, and the fast passes that had initially been offered were then withdrawn. This felt like we were being penalised for asking a reasonable question.

I do not dispute that Thorpe Park must apply legitimate safety rules. However, those rules should be clear, accessible, consistently applied and communicated in a respectful way. The handling of this incident felt dismissive and humiliating, particularly where it related to a visible support and mobility.

We spent a lot of money on entry, travel and food at the park, and this incident ruined what should have been a family day out.

I have raised a formal complaint and hope Thorpe Park reviews what happened, clarifies the policy and ensures staff deal with similar situations more respectfully in future.

After purchasing £380 worth of fast track tickets for the day 6 of the big rides kept closing then reopening causing issues with the fast track tickets. Spend most of the day returning to customer service to revalidate and so on. Day wasted for our daughter’s birthday. Staff at customer service were very unhelpful. Not a good day for us and lots of other guests. Won’t be returning.😡

Extremely disappointed – no consideration for our circumstances as a family with an autistic child

ZERO STAR REVIEW!

I booked Thorpe Park for myself and my three children, including my 8 year old son and 10 year old child.

When I booked, I was unaware that so many of the major rides have a minimum height requirement of 1.4m. As soon as I realised this, I contacted Thorpe Park customer services literally within minutes of making the booking.

I explained that the situation was particularly difficult because my 8 year old son is autistic.

This is the most important part of my complaint.

Because my son is autistic, I cannot simply leave him on his own while I take his sibling onto a ride. I cannot expect him to stay with another person while I accompany another child either. As a single parent and the only adult accompanying the children, I have to remain responsible for him.

Therefore, when a large number of rides have a 1.4m height restriction, it doesn't simply mean that one of my children can't go on the ride. It means I cannot take my other child on the ride either, because I cannot leave my autistic son unsupervised.

I explained all of this to Thorpe Park immediately after booking and asked whether, given these exceptional circumstances, they would make an exception and refund the booking.

They refused.

I want to be very clear: I am not asking Thorpe Park to ignore its safety rules or allow my son onto rides he is too short for.

I am asking them to show some compassion and discretion because my son's autism means I cannot leave him unsupervised, making the height restrictions particularly problematic for us as a single parent family.

Instead, I was offered the option of visiting another Merlin attraction. We have already visited that park this year, so this was not a reasonable alternative.

I am genuinely appalled that I contacted Thorpe Park almost immediately after booking, explained my son's autism and our circumstances, and was still given a blanket refusal.

Thorpe Park talks about accessibility and supporting guests with additional needs, but when I actually needed some flexibility because of my autistic child's needs, there was none.

I now have tickets for a park where my children will be unable to enjoy many of the major rides, and because my son is autistic I cannot simply leave him somewhere while I take his sibling on them.

This isn't about wanting special treatment.

It's about expecting a major family attraction to show some discretion, understanding and compassion towards a single parent with an autistic child when the problem was raised within minutes of making the booking.

"you should have reviewed the height restrictions" comment didn't help either.

Extremely disappointing customer service. Dont expect any support from this company. A refund was not a lot to ask. I have used these parks lots of times in the pat. NEVERAGAIN!

Very disappointing experience

Very disappointing experience – no accountability
I am extremely disappointed with how Thorpe Park handled a situation involving my 15-year-old son during a school trip.
My son was wearing a beanie hat. I accept that he initially denied having the hat when asked, and that he subsequently threw it away. However, despite the hat being removed, Thorpe Park still refused him entry.
My biggest concern is what happened afterwards. My son is only 15 and was left in a position where he had to make his own way home. I had to arrange transport to ensure he got home safely.
I raised my concerns with Thorpe Park, but throughout the complaint process I felt that responsibility kept being shifted — first to the prohibited item, then to my son's behaviour, and ultimately to the school. I do not feel Thorpe Park has taken any accountability for its decision to refuse a 15-year-old entry and the consequences that followed.
I was particularly disappointed that, despite acknowledging he was wearing the item as a beanie rather than covering his face, the matter was still not properly addressed from a safeguarding perspective.
Overall, a very disappointing experience and, sadly, I would not recommend based on how this situation was handled.

Disability discrimination at Thorpe Park

Thorpe park discriminated against my disabled 17 year old daughter. They would not allow her on any of their rides as they told us she was too short. She has a condition which results in her having a short stature and is 1.40m tall. Other children of the same height were allowed on the rides. I asked for a refund for her ticket and this request was refused.
I felt that she was singled out for being disabled and refused entry to rides because of this, rather than her height.
I felt very sad as she loves rides and could not understand why she was not allowed on them. The treatment she received by Thorpe park was discriminatory and bordered on cruel. Not a disability friendly place. Very disappointing,

Family thrill day out

We went yesterday 4/8/26 and was surprised at how fairly quiet the park was seeing as it was school holidays. We got in 12 rides and had an amazing row 10
Ride in hyperia which was insane! It was a scorching hot day and I love the fact Thorpe have the cool zones. We got home around 9.15 all theme parked out. We visit Thorpe usually twice a year as we are Merlin pass holders and I took my eldest son and his girlfriend and my usual companion to theme parks my 15yr old daughter. It was my son and his girlfriend’s first trip there and they loved it. My only 2 moans really are queue jumpers which I reported and nothing was done about, usually I will confront them but yesterday it was 6pm I was shattered and I was not in the mood for a confrontation to ruin the day, so I reported it via the app and WhatsApp sadly nothing was done about it also the shop staff were so bloody miserable! I know it’s a hot day but they looked so bloody miserable, I tried making conversation a little but they were not having it. I try and be polite as I know it can be a tough job but a little courtesy helps. Staff at towers are always chatty and happy and nearly always say “enjoy the rest of your day guys”. Apart from that really Thorpe is a great day out and it’s over a 2 1/2 hour trip for us so we always cram in what we can. Thanks to the ride ops who were working so hard in this heat to keep everyone going and the rides flying out they deserve a big shout out.
Some of the reviews in here are unfair on Thorpe, someone lost their phone on a ride well you are told numerous times to secure loose articles as they are a danger I mean it’s common sense? This is also reiterated numerous times through signs in queue lines and over the tannoy in some rides. Parking moaning don’t people research first? Rides breaking down….it happens it’s not the staffs fault but berating Thorpe for that is nothing short of ridiculous! The it was too hot and the queues were long….really who would have thought at a theme park again in the summer in school trip season and summer holidays it would be busier than when the kids are at school?people need to give their heads a wobble! Food prices…oh dear take your own as we do! No one is holding you to ransom to only buy their food at theme parks! I genuinely worry about the general British public because a lot do not seem to have an ounce of common sense.

Money making scheme/ humiliating

Spent over £300 for a day out that ended in severe dehydration, humiliation, and appalling customer service. As a dyslexic guest, the £150 Fastrack page hid a strict 5-ride limit in fine print, while the app sent push notifications telling us to "cram as many thrills into your day as possible." Being publicly turned away because of their predatory UI was deeply humiliating.

In 28°C heat, water shops were empty, forcing us to buy £3 bottles. We were then trapped in an unshaded 2.5-hour queue for Hyperia, where exhausted guests were forced to sit on scorching concrete to avoid passing out.

A lone female attendant was abandoned in the queue without support or water, reduced to tears by frustrated crowds. When we raised safety concerns, another male staff member literally smirked, laughed, and walked away from us. When we raised these issues, Thorpe Park issued a generic, copy-paste rejection. They completely ignored the heat hazards, accessibility barriers, and staff misconduct, hiding behind "non-refundable terms."

This park showed a total lack of duty of care for guest safety and basic decency. We have officially logged a bank claim and reported them to Trading Standards. Avoid at all costs!

My daughter dropped her phone whilst on…

My daughter dropped her phone whilst on a ride, it landed in a secure fenced off area, when she got off she reported it and was told to wait near where it landed and someone would come. Nobody did. She was then told to come back at the end of the day and after waiting 45 minutes was then told again that they couldn’t get it and to report it online. There are signs up all over the park saying what to do if you lose an item but these are clearly just for show.
We reported it through a secondary company called boomerang who stated that they would keep searching for it, we had to give a description and a location which we did using the find my iPhone app. But despite this nobody bothered to retrieve it. So despite us stating exactly where it was they did nothing to retrieve it, the whole thing is a fast, it would literally take 5 mins to grab it but they couldn’t be bothered, after a month we received an email to say they have stopped looking for it. Absolute joke, so now we’ve had to replace a phone and bank cards.

Don't buy coke freestyle refills

Terrible customer service. Paid £24 in total to activate the refillable coke freestyle cup over 2 days. No ice in any of the machines and the drink coming out was warm and flat. I was assured after day 1 that they would be fixed the following day but they weren't. Complained to guest services- no offer of a refund, against policy etc. I'd advise anyone else to check that the machines are working properly before buying.

Queue was too big as they allow too many people. The waiting time on almost all the major rides was 1 hour. Who would stand in the sun in scorhing heat? I wish I had read the reviews. It's totally business oriented model where they try to earn money at every opportunity whatever the ethics. The food stalls were highly expensive and it amounted to looting money.

Some of the other reviews are unfair

Some of the other reviews are unfair. If you know bag searches will take place prior to arriving, do your research and get there extra early. Same with rides, don’t go during peak season/school trips and complain that it’s heaving.

I was there on Wednesday with my mate. We arrived just after 10 and managed 6 of the rides including Hyperia. Wait times weren’t too bad. Only things which let the park down are the slow loading on some rides and queue jumping. Given the proximity to London, the park attracts lots of less than savory people who don’t care less if they ruin your day

A whole day.... one single ride. Total rubbish.

Our exchange student spent a day of her one-week stay at Thorpe Park and, due to queue lengths and ride shut downs, she and our daughter got to go on a total of ONE single ride! Their terms and conditions only guarantee "entry into the park" but do not guarantee any ride access. Absolute rubbish.

This was by far one of the worst days…

This was by far one of the worst days out we’ve had — entirely due to Thorpe Park letting far too many people in. Queue times for most major rides were consistently 2–3 hours, making the whole day stressful and unenjoyable.

We thought we’d found a shorter queue when the park first opened: Swarm was showing 30 minutes. Staff were extremely slow letting people through, and by the time we came off the ride the queue had grown to over 2 hours. Several times the ride went round with one side completely empty, and with no direction from staff, one side of the queue was six‑deep while the other wasn’t being used at all.

We also heard disabled guests were unhappy. There was no QR code available to start their virtual wait time. They had already queued for around 20 minutes, only to be told they now had to wait another 2 hours for the next ride — despite the advertised wait being 30 minutes.

On top of this, rides continuously broke down throughout the day, adding even more delays. We only managed three rides in total. Even the fast track queue for one ride took nearly 2 hours, which defeats the point of paying extra.

Overall, it felt very greedy — far too many people allowed in, no crowd control, and no realistic way for guests to enjoy the park. When queues reach an hour, capacity should be controlled, not left to climb to 2–3 hours.

Like many others have said: the rides themselves are great, but the experience is not. We won’t be returning.

Thorpe Park Customer Service Review

I had to contact Thorpe Park Customer Services after booking and paying for day tickets because the customer portal wasn’t working properly. Either the link wouldn’t load or, when it finally did, it kept rejecting my one-time passcode.

My call was answered quickly, and I spoke to Louise, who was absolutely lovely. She was friendly, reassuring, and explained that the issue was on their end. She resolved everything efficiently by sending my tickets as PDF attachments via email within minutes.

Excellent customer service from Louise. She was professional, kind, and a real credit to the team. Thank you for making what could have been a frustrating experience so easy to sort out!

Wasn’t impressed when we came to Thorpe park on Monday 13th July, long long ques over an hour and a half, and when we were nearly at the front the rides closed due to technical issues, this happened a few times and quite a few rides were not working, then leaving the car park was told we had to pay for parking this did not sit well with us as a group after having to queue and not getting on all the rides. Just not good enough and in the heat we gave up on a couple of rides as waiting far to long.

Hell starts at the entrance

Hell starts at the entrance, when entering the park you stand in que for 40 minutes just to get your bags searched. Once you enter the park and lock eyes on your first attraction you have to wait 100 minutes +. Furthermore all of the attractions are shutting down as you stand in que. You can’t justify 60£ for 1 ride!
