This event was the best swimming experience I had in my life. I thought I could not do it, but Catarina, our guide, was calm and assertive. She gave us needed confidence to enjoy this fantastic experience. The Baleeira beach in Castelo is beautiful and I was grateful Catarina chose this place as my first open water challenge!

Amazing experience! What a way to explore and see Madeira island from a whole new perspective. My swim coach, Mayra, was exceptional, encouraging me by my side the whole time. We laughed a lot too. If you love to swim, I can’t recommend this experience enough.

I travelled with my family to Martinhal in Sagres. I am a keen sea swimmer so when I saw the islands 1km off the coast I knew I needed to swim around them! The wind is typically offshore in the area so I didn’t want to risk doing the swim on my own. I reached out to the Swim Together team and they accommodated me even though it was not a standard swim for them.

Ricardo was my swim guide. He is very knowledgeable about the area, a brilliant swimmer and definitely one of the good guys! He went through some safety basics with me and discussed the swim plan.

The wind was with us on the way to the islands, Ricardo kept pace with me stroke for stroke so I didn’t need to sight, I could just watch him. We swam about 1.50m per 100m stopping only to discuss the swim plan or admire the fish. At one point, Ricardo gave me a nice tip about my technique which was really helpful.

We arrived at the islands after 15/20 mins swimming, the cliffs towering above us. Ricardo expertly navigated us around the islands avoiding a few rocks and pointing out an incredible wall of hundreds of Seabream.

We rounded the final island and we experienced a stark contrast in sea state between flat water and choppy water depending on whether or not the island is sheltered. We swam through flat to choppy, to flat and back into choppy waters as we swam between one of the gaps between two islands.

Once we were through the gap it was an exhilarating 900m swim home into the wind and waves of these beautiful Portuguese waters.

Definitely recommend and will certainly be back!

Changing from only pool to open waters wherever and whenever possible has changed my life utterly positively.
Looking forward to the next with adventure with the world class guide André and SwimTogether.
But for now it is all about enjoying the fond memory of this awesome experience in Sesimbra.

It was amazing. Very good guide and a beautiful scenery during the swim. Even got some technical swimming tips and an address for an excellent local restaurant.

I’m a masters swimmer from Montreal, Canada. I found Swim Together after a quick internet search. Andre, the owner was quick to respond and answered all my questions. I was looking for a local, knowledgeable guide to show me what swimming in the Algarve is like - and Ricardo was just that! He shared local knowledge, knew the best places to swim and we had a great swim together. The water in May was 16C, so best to have a wetsuit. I’d recommend Swim Together, and will swim with them again.

Pelo Instagram conheci a Swimtogether…Curioso e sem qq experiência em nadar no mar contactei o André Santos CEO da Swimtogether, após conversa telefónica e de lhe expor o objectivo de fazer um dia um Ironman ele apresentou-me uma proposta de aulas individuais e em grupo. Em qq uma delas a professora é a Mariana Cardoso, desde a primeira aula, com algumas dificuldades e receios, ela faz me acreditar que é possível. A segurança e o bem estar dos alunos é a sua grande preocupação, mas não se deixem enganar porque as aulas não são um “passeio relaxante”. Ela está ali para nos treinar. Obrigado Mariana! Por falar em “passeios”, o André com quem já tive o privilégio de nadar, para além de ser um nadador e uma companhia excelente as fotografias e vídeos que faz dentro de água são incríveis. Obrigado André!

I was fortunate enough to receive as a gift from a great dear friend, ( 5 individual lessons in open water with Swimtogether ) I had the pleasure of being accompanied by the teacher Mariana, she is an amazing person, makes everything seem easier,she will motivate you to believe in your abilities! It is a memorable experience to swim in the sea… much due to Mariana ;)

What an amazing experience in my first open water adventure. We visited caves nearby Sesimbra as we swam alonside a beautiful coast. Weather was amazing and sea was really calm. Our guide André was really enthusiastc and helpfull, always giving tips and looking for the best spots. Photos and videos came out incredible. Can't wait for the next one.
