The personal touch of this company was very special. Their approach had been well thought through. The welcome pack had my name on it, as did other literature. The packaging was superb, each part of the cardboard inside, was numbered, so you knew in what order to remove the light, so you could not damage it. This company had put a lot of thought into the customer experience. I only wish now I had ordered the professional model, down to the quality of the product.

Serious Readers are in my opinion a very good,well run company indeed and as an retired Personal Manager of a well.known British Company I think I know a good company when I use one.

JUST A TOTAL SHAMBLES AND NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS

Purchased a Serious Readers HD LED Floor Light. Delivered (by DHL) when we were away - not a problem - they will leave in a safe place, and this they did. Only issue was that the box was left open. All seals broken. Thankfully it was under an exterior shelter so the rain didn't get in but the lamp unit was almost out of the box (still in its poly sleeve) although anything but secure. Arrived back just over 24hrs after delivery and the lamp - thankfully - was OK. Informed SR, received an auto acknowledgement but now, a working day later, still nothing. Guess they aren't interested. The box was reasonably sturdy but all of the seals holding the opening flap and the tab on it were ripped so - maybe - someone had attempted to open it. This could only have been left like this by the courier as there are cameras covering this area and no-one else came near to that box between delivery and our return as an alert (and video) would have been triggered. So the courier left it like this.
Can only assume that this is normal and for SR, quite acceptable. If this is their attitude, it's the last lamp we'll purchase from there. Lot of money, expect some response, even if it's not meant and genuine!

UPDATE - reply late yesterday from Alex Pratt - it was essentially feedback that was being given, not a complaint. Recommendation was regarding packaging design - which is good - apart from not being sufficiently 'courier proof'. Needs to be addressed. But thanks Alex, hope all well.

My mother was given an Alex lamp some years ago and when she died I thought I might as well keep it (even though I don't read as such and so currently have no real need).

The only trouble was I found it no longer worked for some reason, so I made enquires of the company to see if they had any clues.

After some very helpful advice and options from Julie (and following an unsuccessful attempt to sell it as faulty on eBay!) - and conscious of the fact that it was too good a lamp to waste - I thought I'd do the ecological thing and get them to both repair it and convert from halogen to LED.

Well, suffice to say I'm very pleased with the service. For £95 'all in' they take all the hassle out of the process by sending you a bespoke box for transportation; detailed video packing instructions if required; arranging the courier collection; and give you a specific date for the lamp's return.

One is of course paying for the convenience but it all worked a treat and I had the lamp back within little more than a week, making this one of the slickest and most user-friendly operations I can ever recall encountering.

Well done to those concerned for dreaming it up in the first place and to the current personnel for its extremely efficient implementation.

We have the set, small, medium and tall lights, bought over the years. Always had great service, superb products and never had an issue.
Makes reading, and computing, a pleasure.

I turned up unannounced in my lunch-hour with a floor light I have had for several years that had been knocked into by a hoover & suffered some damage to its' base which required (at the very least) a new sleeve round the joint between the base & the stem. Darren broke off from his own lunch break to fix it immediately while I waited. Within 10 minutes I was on my way with a "good as new" light for which Darren & Helen (chief of staff) refused all offers of payment. What fantastic service! Thank you both.

I fully appreciate that I am very much in the minority given the massive degree of satisfaction expressed by the vast majority of your very appreciative customers and I have absolutely no wish to blight the brand in any unkind way. However this is my honest and personal assessment,
I purchased a desktop version nearly 2 years ago and turn it on only VERY rarely as I find it incredibly uncomfortable to read and work by. The brightness is just too sharp and too much..!! I have good (corrected) eyesight with no abnormalities and keep up to date with professional annual checks. To be honest, I simply use instead a cheap (£24) LED table lamp purchased from Robert Dyas which is perfect in every way and (to me) far superior to my Serious Readers alternative. I believe the brand to be somewhat expensive and over-hyped but accept that it clearly suits the majority of your customers who are obviously well satisfied. After 2 years of battling with the unsuitability of my SR lamp, I felt it time to make my views known.

This was my third purchase from Serious Lights the first two were great lights no problems.
The third purchase was the CLEANSE desk light. This is a very poor unit totally letting the company down.
The light is ok, the clock that is built in loses time by three minutes a month which for a digital clock is very poor. They did sell me a second at 2/3 discount but that was just as bad. This has totally destroyed the trust and will not be buying any thing from Serious Lights in the future.

Great products and best customer service ever.
I had an issue with an old floor light. They arranged for collection, resolved the problem and delivered the light back within a week. Also offered immediate refund for replacement bulbs I did not now need.
Would not hesitate to recommend this company.

The lamp is high quality and the customer service was very responsive.

However, replacement plugs cost £50 and I think this is extortionate. The plugs are completely standard and can be purchased for less than £10 elsewhere online.

Fast delivery with updates. Lamp packaging was brilliant. Printed instructions from opening the box to plugging in the lamp - who hasn't struggled or even hurt themselves unpacking their delivery? Very pleased with my purchase.

I bought my first Serious Reader lamp several years ago when I had cataracts developing and was finding reading difficult.The difference was amazing - all print whatever size,became sharp and clear and I was able to enjoy reading again.I then got a table lamp for bedside and reading in bed became an option again.The lamps are sturdy,attractive and functional and recently when I needed a new bulb and needed help, Helen was amazing. She put so much effort into helping me as I find computers and websites and code numbers a challenge.She sorted everything out for me. I haven't experienced such friendly, kind, supportive staff for a long time - congratulations to everyone.

I was so pleased with the first HD lamp which I purchased for doing my hobby that I bought another for a different room for reading. Both are brilliant. I had an issue with the first one after a few years (though still within 5 year guarantee) but it was very speedily collected, repaired and returned in four days! All on days that suited me. Cannot fault their customer services.

Just got my compact lamp today & loving it already - beautifully packaged, great price, excellent delivery - & I can take it to my Daughter's when I watch the Dogs & want to read lol - & no plugs👌 - don't hesitate to buy if you're a 'serious reader ' - wish I'd bought it sooner, money well spent

I suffer from Glocoma and have lost 80% of my pereferal vision, the serious readers light is fantastic it enables me to read books documents and newsletters with total clarity, cant recommend this light enough

I bought a small cleansing reading lamp with a clock. It is plugged into the mains, not battery operated. The lamp itself is fine, but the clock is and always has been a terrible timekeeper!
