Battersea Park Taylor Swift Fun Run: Badly organised run, refused to acknowledge nor apologise, and had the audacity to delete every negative comments on their Instagram

I am writing this comment here, on the off-chance someone searches this company. I joined the Taylor Swift Fun Run, organised by this company at Battersea Park on 8th Feb 2025. Naturally, it attracted many people, close to 1000 last I checked. Therefore, having this information prior to the race day, the organisers could have prepared better for the day.

Yes, the day was utterly and completely in shambles. Paid £25 and it was advertised that there will be goody bags, music throughout the run course, bike pacers aiming to finish at 30,35,40,45 mins, warm up with a Taylor-swift look alike, runner lining according to the pacers. Here is what happened:
1. No goody bags at all, at the end
2. Received a medal, a bottle of water, and a banana
3. Four bike pacers but had no idea which timing they were because there were no indications of timing on them
4. It was a cold morning, it took ages for them to hand out bibs, the run which was advertised to start at 11am only started at 12pm. All of us were herded back and forth as the organisers had no clue where the start line was,
5. No music AT ALL throughout the course, people started playing music on their phones instead
6. Many little girls and boys dressed up to join the run but due to the sheer lack of organisation you can see them getting frustrated. Def not a 'Fun Run' to them
7. Taylor-look-a-like was not given a mike nor the music was loud at all for anyone to hear what was going on. No megaphones or loudspeakers so people were just standing aimlessly.
8. There was a timer at the back of the bib. For many including myself, my official race time was missing for about a week, then a completely wrong timing appeared. Luckily I had my strava and own watch to not let their incompetence discourage me.

I have contacted the organisers TWICE via their webform and via email respectively. They have ignored me (and many others), however they have gone the extra effort to DELETE every single negative comments left on their Instagram. If you look at their socials now, it seemed to have been an amazing fun event, but as a business they have yet to apologise not acknowledge what happened.

They have also disabled comments on the post about how they can do better in the future but not a single word on how badly they managed the run.

This event did not deliver the promised service and had plenty of time to acknowledge and remedy the outcome yet they have chosen to be petty by ignoring customers who have paid and keeping silence.

So if you are reading this review/complaint, know you will get all the replies and responses until the event but will be ignored after. I have no confidence they will manage future events any better.

Ps: interesting to see a few 5 star reviews popping out to suddenly in the last 24hrs (it's 8th March today) to say there was music throughout the run (what music???) from profiles that has no other Trustpilot reviews. Wonder if those reviews were requested to leave such comments to get future events discounts. If it's not this company gaslighting people's experience, jeez.

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback — we’re truly sorry to hear that your experience at our Battersea Park event didn’t meet your expectations.

This was our first themed event, and while over 1,300 people attended — many of whom shared positive feedback and had a great time — we fully acknowledge there were areas where we fell short. Your review highlights several of these, and I’d like to provide some clarification on what happened, what’s accurate, and what’s changed since.

You mentioned there were no goody bags. The advertised bags were meant to include a medal, water, an apple, a banana, and a themed treat. Due to a last-minute supplier issue, the themed item was unfortunately unavailable. However, all participants did receive fruit, water, and a themed Taylor Swift medal. We chose not to give items in bags to remain as sustainable as possible.

At our most recent Swiftathon at VeloPark on 31st May, we went a step further and included an "In My Running Era" drawstring bag filled with a friendship bracelet, Squashies, a keyring, and two stickers. These can now be seen on our website.

Regarding the bike pacers — you’re right they didn’t have visible timing markers at Battersea. Since then, we’ve replaced the pacers with a team of “music guides” — we had 10 of them at VeloPark, and it worked incredibly well to provide more music around the course, energise and guide runners.

The event start was delayed by around 30 minutes, not 60. Some factors were beyond our control, but we also recognise where we could have done better. A key improvement we’ve implemented is posting bibs to participants in advance, removing the need for on-the-day registration queues.

On the topic of music, we had nine audio sources at Battersea, including four staff with portable speakers and several fixed points. That said, due to Battersea Park being a public space near residential homes, we had restrictions on where and how loudly we could play music.

Since then, we’ve partnered with venues where full amplification is possible. At VeloPark, we had 10 roaming music guides, stationary speakers, and cheering marshals to create a much stronger atmosphere.

We agree the Taylor Swift tribute act wasn’t heard clearly by everyone — this was due to limitations with our speaker system at Battersea. Since then, we’ve brought in a DJ and full sound team to ensure all future warm-ups and announcements are crystal clear.

With regard to timing chips — you’re right that some participants’ times were not captured at Battersea due to issues with a third-party timing provider. We no longer work with that company, and our new provider successfully recorded every result at VeloPark.

You mentioned there’s been no apology or acknowledgement. We’ve made several public statements acknowledging the problems at Battersea and outlining how we’re improving. Some of the key changes we’ve made include sending bibs in advance, using professional sound teams, clearly marking start lines, and moving to venues without sound restrictions.

We also offered you complimentary tickets to attend the VeloPark Swiftathon so you could see the improvements firsthand. It’s a shame you declined, as we genuinely believe the experience would have addressed many of your concerns.

Lastly, regarding your claim about fake reviews — we want to be very clear: that’s not true. We do not delete or manipulate reviews, and we absolutely do not submit fake ones. The positive feedback we receive comes from real attendees who had a great time. We also encourage honest feedback, even when it's critical, as it helps us improve.

We noticed you tagged us in a photo smiling at the finish line, which suggested you enjoyed at least part of the day. However, after learning that a small number of participants received refunds in exceptional circumstances, your comments appear to have become more exaggerated than your initial reaction.

Warm regards,
The Run Fanatics Team

Battersea Park run was disappointing and almost dangerous

I attended the Swiftie run in Battersea park and it was a very disappointing experience. The run started 30-45 minutes late, it was total chaos in terms of organisation. Not a proper warm up as advertised and nobody knew where to go, where the start line was etc. Partly this was due to the fact that the poor staff had no loudspeakers or anything so couldn't be heard.
Obviously we were not expecting a serious athletics event but they did not, as promised and as standard, line people up based on their predicted time so this led to quite a dangerous situation where you had clearly athletic, fully grown men and tiny children all mixed in together and surging forward when the race started (first a false start then a real one). That is not to mention the loose cables I saw some people nearly trip over on.

Music was promised on the way round and none could be heard. It was so sad to see little girls dressed up in their costumes ready for a themed day and mums having to get some music on their phones to play on the way round.

I've given 2 stars as the medal was nice, the people looking after the bags were nice and efficient, and the vibes were good but that was really in spite of the organisers and thanks to most people having a sense of humour.

I was honestly waiting for them to apologise and offer refunds etc but I've seen them posting on socials about what a great day it was, so have written this review to warn people not to spend any money.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback and for joining us at our Battersea Park event. We're genuinely sorry to hear that your experience didn’t live up to expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective.

We fully acknowledge that the start of the event was delayed and that communication on the day could have been clearer — especially for those further back in the queue. At the time, we were using a standard event village speaker system, which unfortunately wasn’t powerful enough to reach everyone. Since then, we’ve invested in a DJ-led sound setup with high-powered speakers, which worked extremely well at our most recent event at VeloPark on 31st May and will be used for all future events.

You also raise a valid point about the need for better start-line organisation. While we did have marshals on the day, we recognise that there still was some confusion. At VeloPark, we introduced clearly marked flags for the 5K and 10K start lines, along with regular DJ announcements to guide participants — a change that significantly improved the experience and one we’ll continue using going forward.

Regarding the music, we had four roaming music guides with speakers on their backs and several stationary sound points around the course. However, we do recognise the coverage wasn’t strong enough across all areas, particularly given the limitations of Battersea Park being a public space near residential homes. Since then, we've added a professional DJ and a full sound team at each event — and at our most recent event at VeloPark, we had 10 roaming music guides, stationary speakers with cheering marshals and significantly improved coverage.

We’re really pleased to hear your positive comments about the medal, the bag drop team, and the overall vibe — much of which comes from the incredible community of runners who attend. That said, we take full responsibility for the areas where we fell short and have made significant improvements based directly on feedback like yours. You can see some of these changes reflected in recent reviews on TripAdvisor.

Regarding refunds: we did offer them in very exceptional cases. However, it quickly became clear that some individuals were taking advantage — even coaching others in comment threads on how to claim one. We also saw cases where people had publicly praised the event on social media, only to delete their posts and request refunds. As a result, we instead offered free tickets to our improved event at VeloPark, which many accepted and thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you again for your feedback — we’re committed to learning and growing with every event, and we hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the future.

Warm regards,
The Run Fanatics Team
