I am posting this review to warn others and to seek a fair resolution.
I purchased a Rheem heat pump water heater from Ontario Smart Energy in November 2024 after being assured that I would qualify for an $8,000 rebate. Despite following the process as directed, I am now out the full $8,000 and Ontario Smart Energy has been unwilling to assist in resolving either the rebate issue or the equipment failure.
In late January, during extreme winter conditions, the unit failed completely, leaving my family without hot water for over two weeks. We have four young children (ages 9, 7, 5, and 3). Ontario Smart Energy refused to provide meaningful support and deferred responsibility once the one-year warranty period passed.
The customer service experience was deeply concerning. A representative (who identified herself as “Maria,” though voicemail later suggested otherwise) was dismissive, refused to transfer me to another representative, and ultimately hung up on me. This conduct is unacceptable, especially given the seriousness of the situation.
Ontario Smart Energy took my money but has not stood behind the product or their promises. Based on my experience, I strongly caution others to avoid this company and to carefully question rebate claims before purchasing. I am seeking accountability and a reasonable resolution.
Bad customer service - No integrity stay away from this company
1.We have been having issues with getting $2000.00 dollars back, I have in writing in an email, They are going to return to us as a result of error in processing our Rebate documentation. I have reached out multiple times and they have simply stopped replying.
2. We cannot get a response for service, under our yearly maintenance plan that was included in our purchase.
I tried to research this company prior to our install and nothing negative came up. Since the installation of our heat pump under the Ontario rebate program 2 years ago, I have seen nothing but complaints. Good reviews on installations but anything after that point you get no response.

Equipment install and Customer Service
I had my furnace and heat pump as well as water heater installed with a water softener. The pressure of the water in the home was significantly reduced as a result. I contacted OSE and arranged for a plumber to come out and check the pressure. I also had the City determine that the pressure was not a problem coming from city services. I was advised by a licenced plumber that the water pressure issue was directly attributed to the installation of the water softener. The softener was disconnected and the water pressure improved. OSE maintained that it was not their issue and that no reimbursement would be made on the water softener. In addition, I contacted our sales rep. only to determine that he no longer worked for OSE.
I contacted them further to request payment of energy savings and was advised there was nothing. WHAAAAT? Have not received any rebates whatsoever, and no documents to support it. SCAMMED!
Further, I was having a performance issue of the furnace shortly after install in January 2025 and they selected and contracted a local service company to check the system, advising the cost would be theirs and that the invoice would be addressed to OSE. The analysis and inspection was completed and corrected, however, it is now 11 months later and the invoice for this service has still not been paid by OSE.
OSE makes every excuse possible and when speaking to them about this over the phone, I was met with rude and impolite representatives. The service and customer service is poor.
Nothing but Lies!!!
If I could give a 0* rating I would. We were told nothing but lies from this company.
Lie#1-We were given a link to Hydro, to apply for our Hydro rebate and found out that unless your household income is below poverty level, you don't qualify.
Lie#2 They told us that they would pay for any fees associated with our hot water tank removal, to Reliance. It's been 3 months and Reliance has not been paid.
Lie#3 - Installers flooded our basement during installation and didn't bother to let us know. They just left. We told our sales person about it and he told us that we would be receiving additional home energy saving products as compensation. We have received nothing.
Lie#4 -We were to receive a copy of our extended warranty along with contact numbers for service and we have nothing.
We have sent several texts and have called multiple times with no response. They take your money and run! My advice to anyone is DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY!!

Do not purchase anything from this company. We had an air conditioner & heat pump put in in Feb 2025. Everything was working great until July 29th when our air conditioner stopped working, we haven’t had air conditioning since. It’s been a very hot summer..They don’t seem to really care that a brand new air conditioner stopped working. We contacted them July30th, they sent technicians out ( said they would call first, but instead they just showed up. Luckily we were just down the street and could return quickly).we were told it’s showing an error code they weren’t familiar with. After many phone calls & google searches, they determined that a part had to be ordered and said they would call when air came in or it might be shipped to our house. We waited almost 2 weeks, heard nothing so we called. I called Monday, was on hold for 45 min then was told, “I’ll have someone call you”.Tuesday my husband call and was told the same thing. Thursday I emailed them, same response “I'll have someone call you”. Following week I called and instead of asking for repairs & service I asked for customer service, I was told “ I will put an urgent message to the service department and someone will call you right away”. It’s. if been 10 days after that phone call,I’m not sure what they consider urgent. I called yesterday got the answering machine, still haven’t heard a thing. It’s coming up to a month in a couple days, we are heading into the bank to put a stop payment on our monthly payment. We refuse to pay for something we aren’t using that only lasted a few months, the warranty will be up before it’s repaired. The next step is to have everything removed and drop it on their door step, hopefully that might get a response.

Warning - We were completely taken to the cleaners by this company. Yes we got a heat pump and tankless water heater installed however it cost us a whooping 20K. As if that was not exorbitant enough the financing was put through Vault Pay at a 1 year term of 3.99%. Just received my contract renewal at 11.99%.
