These guys are great, so knowledgeable, and good prices too. I love their store, like a little cave of running goodness.

Apologies, yet another 1 star review for Northern Runner. And yes, also due to poor customer service. Seems to be a running (excuse the pun) theme here.

After receiving my shoes and wearing them once for a short walk, I came to the conclusion they were a poor fit for me. I live remote, so ordering online is my only option for footwear, so it's always a bit of a risk. Most companies I buy from are run by outdoor enthusiasts (Ultralight Outdoor, Achilles Heel - to name a couple) and when I have had similar issues in the past they have always worked with me to put things right.. usually at my expense, but rightly so, I ordered the wrong size. That is an example of 'good' customer service i.e. finding a happy medium for both. This is where Northern Runner fall down, which I will explain below.

When I emailed Northern Runner with my predicament, the response I received from "Chris" telling me that because I had worn them, they couldn't help. Wow, not even a discussion. That tells me they either don't care about me as a customer, instead it is very much my problem.

To me, that is not the right attitude for building and maintaining customers long term.

I will be reconsidering ordering from Northern Runner in the future due to this poor experience I have had.

I bought a pair of shoes from this shop in Newcastle and returned less than an hour later because I wasn’t completely sure about them and wanted a little more time to think about my purchase.

When I went back, I was directed to a sign at the till stating that the shop does not offer refunds. I explained that this had not been mentioned to me at the time of purchase. Unfortunately, the gentleman I spoke to was rude and dismissive, repeatedly telling me that the sign was there for customers to read.

I completely understand that businesses have their own refund policies, but I feel this should be clearly communicated at the point of sale, rather than relying solely on a sign at the till. Had the salesperson mentioned the policy when I made the purchase, I would have been able to make a more informed decision.

Since leaving the shop, I’ve also found the same shoes online, with more colour options, at a lower price—and, importantly, from retailers that do accept returns.

Overall, I’m extremely disappointed with my experience and, unfortunately, I would not recommend shopping here. The way the situation was handled left a particularly poor impression.

Do not answer their phone or send orders out. Website is obviously just advertising shoes at a discount and dodging refunds. Suggest people Google Charles and Morag Stead if they too are being messed about

Amazing customer service, and brilliant prices! Bagged myself a pair of Altra Olympus 6 in their sale but annoyingly need to return them to get the next size up. They were really helpful during the return and even made sure to put aside the once I wanted and send them out as soon as I sent the others back. So nice to have such a genuinely nice team to deal with!!

Online order. Exceptional customer service. Great prices. Bought a few pairs trainers, arrived promptly and in good condition. Kind and communicative throughout return process for one pair. Will definitely use this company again!

Brilliant company to deal with. I ordered a pair of Altra Torin’s, they were the cheapest I could find on line and they were delivered the next day with free shipping in perfect condition.

Efficient and generous online service from Michelle (and Chris), especially appreciated as I needed exchange/returns to get the fit right. The website carries useful trainer reviews, and a better choice of wide and extra-wide fittings than I have seen elsewhere. Sale prices were attractive and I bought a second pair of an old Brooks model that is now hard to get hold of. I’d strongly recommend Northern Runner.

Chris was very efficient in responding to emails regarding an issue with Paypal (not Northern Runners fault). I ordered a pair of trainers and they arrived promptly. I found the overall service to be excellent

Ordered some running shoes. Efficiently arrived (price was competitive too). Issue (no fault of company) with shoes - outside of return policy.

Michelle at NR has been exceptional with the assistance and efficiency in replacing. I cannot speak highly enough of Michelle / Northern Runner and shall continue to use. Wholeheartedly recommend. Many thanks indeed.

Quick delivery. Bought running shoes, didn't fit... very easy returns policy. Return accepted on delivery, clearly confirmed within your order summary status on your account for the item. Refund paid back to account within the 3-5 business days. (Remember that weekends won't count in case you think there's an issue with your refund. I got refund confirmation on a Thurs, money paid back in the next Wed).

When returning, all you do is return the unused item with the receipt page you got with it tucked inside your packaging (stating you want a "refund" or size change), you don't do anything on the website in case you're searching for a "return item" option. Best use recorded delivery. (Remember not to wear the shoes outside or you'll invalidate the return rules... tho that's obvious).

Lovely little shop! Bought online but the shoes weren't right for me so popped into the shop in person as hadn't realised how local to me they are and explored other options with some good advice from staff. No fuss return and got shoes that worked better for my feet. Helpful and a good range of running goodies!

I ordered a pair of boa style running shoes from Altra. Unfortunately, they were not a good fit and I returned them within a couple of days. I was very surprised when I received notification of their arrival back at the store a couple of days later and than receiving a notification of my refund a couple of hours after that. I love Northern Runner. I've asked many questions prior to purchases, so as to get the right product; replies have always been prompt, friendly and informative. Additionally, the reviews are great, and products competitively priced. NR will continue to be my go-to source for my runners.

John helped me today with a pair of running shoes as I have had trouble buying off the shelf ones due to wide feet and a high instep.
He was very knowledgeable and helped me get a comfortable pair giving me a few options too. Had a great chat with him.

I love this shop! A really great website with loads of information and blog posts.. enormous selection of running shoes and the service is always super helpful. I was after a pair of shoes that they didn't have in stock and they ordered them just for me and let me know within a couple of days that they had arrived. I'm thrilled!
