On Tuesday 12th March 2019 I purchased a card so I can make a claim on the card when I go to see my Dentist every 6 months since it saves me heaps of money.
NIB won’t pay
I was with NIB 19yrs. My daughter needed osteotomy of her palate and jaw realignment. We had spent a lot of money on a mouth brace, specialists fees, scans, organized time off work, and huge amount of stress for my daughter. 2 days before St George hospital they advised me that NIB won’t cover the surgery. After many phone calls, we were advised that they classified the surgery as plastic surgery even though Medicare (called public health department) states it was not classified as plastic surgery. So I joined BUPA for 1 yr and they covered it. NIB is just theft
Totally disappointed in NIB.
I joined NIB over 12 months ago to help pay for a total hip replacement that I had recently. The surgeon's fee was $3000 which was paid upfront from my Mastercard. Expecting to get most of this back following the submission of the account, I was horrified that NIB will only reimburse me $300. Medicare contributed $1044. So much for being looked after by a private health provider. I'll be canceling my membership ASAP.
Stay away from NIB
I have been with NIB for more than 4 years. During all these years I have always had issues with them regarding payments. I like to make weekly payments because it works better for me and my family. I keep paying NIB on weekly basis, and it seems like I always owe them money. I called them 8 times, yes, 8 bloody time, and made payment over the phone and tried to fix this issue, but everytime I tried to use my card it got declined again and again. Does not matter who you talk to at NIB, they are incompetent and can't fix any problem. I called today to put in a complaint, but the guy I talked to couldn't care less. I DO NOT recommend NIB to anybody if you value your sanity and your money. Private insurance is suppose to be for comfort and peace of mind. But with NIB it is only a headache. I believe it is their way of scaming people to lose track of how much they pay them and to pay more money than they suppose to. They are many other private companies out there, please do yourself a favour and stear away from NIB.
Several phone calls & emails later, I am still awaiting a reply, whilst I continue to pay my NIB health insurance each month.
After being with another health insurer for over 25 years, I switched to NIB last June hoping for improved products & service/s.
I was diagnosed with Hernia late last year & need to have an operation to fix it. I contacted NIB at first instance to check on my eligibility to go ahead with Hernia procedure. After repeated phone calls, they sent me "GP Pre-Existing Ailment form" & "Specialist Pre-Existing Ailment form" to fill & email back, which I did in December 2022 & haven't heard back from NIB since, despite reminder emails.
Any excuse not to pay!
My sons airline flight was cancelled due to "Mechanical problems". Apparently this is not one of the reasons listed as being covered when taking travel insurance. A cancelled flight is a cancelled flight! We all know that airlines regularly use this excuse when cancelling a flight. According to NIB a cancelled flight is not necessarily a cancelled flight so be ready to pay for your second flight even when you have their travel insurance.
Great sign-up process, LOUSY CLAIMS
Great sign-up process for insurance and reasonable rates, but such very lousy, slow and bad follow-up for any lodged claims.
The platform to lodge the claim is very detailed, and if they have any systems in place, it should be processed within maybe seven days.
We received an acknowledgment email of our claim as lodged and received on 20 December; I sent a follow-up email on 19 January, no reply. So I called again on 23 and 25 January, gave up on the wait and sent another follow-up email on 30 January but then decided to call; I waited over 70 minutes to connect with an agent. When I did, they said it was in process and would be done within ten days.
Today is 13 February, and I am now waiting so far over 25 minutes on hold, as no emails have been replied to, and there have been no updates.
I had a claim experience with RAC last year for a home, which was solved and paid for within 72 hours.
Prolonged, terrible service, no communication and a real lack of care is shown to the policyholders once they have taken your money.
I would suggest looking for another insurance company.
Good experience
I have just left NIB but not because of their poor service or products. For the 3 years we were with them, we never experienced any issues with claiming or with their customer service. They had the most reasonably priced cover for what we needed at the time and I would recommend them if you’re looking for health insurance.
Very poor customer service
Have refused claim that I have made many times previously over many years. Have requested call back to explain three times, but still no response. Very poor customer service, used to be good to deal with but now they just try to get rid of you. Very disappointed.

Awful health insurance just used to write that you have an overseas cover. They rarely cover anything and I was always afraid to go to the doctor or hospital for fear of a crazy amount of endless bills.
When I tried to end my policy I was constantly met with “awww so sad you’re gonna leave” messages from their online chat Bc they can’t be contacted through email directly. Then when I tried to call to get my policy ended there were consistent “phone issues” and it kept being postponed.
When I finally got through and ended it I asked for a refund but was told there was no “evidence” of me trying to contact them. And the only reason for that is their without a trace contact system. So yeah don’t use NIB if you want to keep your sanity in tact. Customer service is doing their best but most likely the issues stem from the whole system itself

When I phoned NIB to stop Extra's that was not being used for years the message was to go online to change which I unfortunately did. The Full cover Mid Hospital Silver Plus has been removed apparently in 2015 after we had taken it out in 2013. I hit the wrong Cover & did not know for 6 months because we had not needed it until the hospital informed us we did not have a Private Hospital Cover which I disputed but later found out what had happened which has been terribly distressful. The Cover that WAS taken out has now deleted half of what was previously covered in July 2021. I have read NIB do this all the time to cut out cover as this is now absolutely useless. STAY AWAY FROM NIB LIKE OTHERS HAVE WARNED

I have Bupa hospital and ahm auxiliary benifits. Rang I select told me nib had better auxiliary price. After a year with ahm decided to chane aux. Only. Nib wanted me wait twoonths. Told I have no waits. They asked where I has previously has aux covered . Told them Bupa. They rang and cancelled hospital with Bupa three times without my knowledge. They really wanted discharge cert. After aonth of this I returned to ahm.

Terrible. You’d be better off lighting your money on fire once a month. On multiple occasions I called to ask how much I would get back on a claim, then went and paid for the health service and when I submitted the claim they would pay me a tiny fraction of what they’d quoted me ($250 of $1500 in one instance). When I called to ask why this was they would basically say it’s all my fault for trusting their word instead of combing through the policy for every loophole like they had. Absolutely furious. Do not use this “service” (if you could even call it that).
Terrible service
Terrible service! They try and delay and avoid payment give pathetic excuses. No care or empathy for people struggling financially. Currently in a struggle in them paying Ortho treatment even though both providers on the receipt are registered Orthodontist with them. In addition my son's receipt which they paid a few years earlier also had the same two providers on it. Very unreasonable. I will be contacting my Local MP and if need be Ombudsman.

NIB are the worst, ten years of membership payments and then when I need a sinus surgery operation they would not to pay for the theatre costs, anesthetist - just a few select surgery items and that's with medicare's contribution - what is the point of years of payments for cover, paying the excess and then when you're told the day before surgery by the hospital your insurance will pick and choose only a few items and you're going to have to stump up $13k before surgery and you'll be left out of pocket well over $10k? Eventually I was helped by the backlogged public system. NIB - thanks for nothing, I won't be recommending you ever. Because if you're like me, they are not there for you when you need them.
Nib only care about profits not people
I was with NIB health insurance for 20 years they were once a good company, but not anymore. Now they are floated on the stock exchange all they care about is profits. Their premiums rise every year more than the others and you get nothing back. I know other funds raise their costs, but NIB now has to account to share holders and boards. Keep right away from NIB, they do everything they can to deny claims and say your not covered. I moved AHM saving $45 a month, same cover with 6 weeks a year free cover, try getting that deal from NIB!
'Parent organisation' to scam travel insurance company World Nomads according to Google.
Their subsidiary World Nomads ignores emails and repeatedly asks for documentation that you already sent them multiple times. I have filed multiple claims with World Nomads and have been liaising with both World Nomads and Suresave (another affiliate company) to settle a claim since 12 January 2020 to no avail.
I had my luggage and valuables stolen in the train at Barcelona. Made a claim in accordance with their instructions and submitted all required documentation which took a very long time. They required further information and/or documentation until they come across one which you cannot produce, at which point they refuse assess your claim and do not pay you. They took an average of 10 working days to reply to each of my emails (which is the maximum time requirement for them to reply to you). In my case, they are now refusing to assess my claim as I cannot submit my train ticket which was inside the stolen luggage. This is ridiculous. I cannot stress enough for any potential customers to avoid World Nomads at all costs. It is very easy to pay for the travel insurance with World Nomads as is the process to make a claim because their website is very easy to use. However, the claim process takes a very long time, and in the end, if you are not frustrated into giving up the claim, they always find a way to not settle the claim and do not pay out. If this is not an example of a scam, I don't know what is. Please read the other reviews very carefully - most of the good reviews on World Nomads is in regards to how easy it is for you to use their website to pay and make a claim, not getting your claim paid out. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

- I had my ticket stolen therefore sent a bank statement for the transaction on 11 Feb.
- World Nomads asked again for train ticket again on 25 Feb.
- I reiterated and sent the bank statement again on 25 Feb.
- World Nomads asked again for the train ticket OR bank statement on 28 Feb.
- I reiterated my previous email and copied of all email chains and attached the bank statement once again on 28 Feb.
- World Nomads asked again for the train ticket OR bank statement on 7 March.
- I reiterated my previous email and copied of all email chains and attached the bank statement once again on 7 March.
- Case manager asked again for the train ticket OR bank statement on 10 March using a suresave.com.au email address.
- I reiterated my previous email and copied of all email chains and attached the bank statement once again on 10 March. No reply as of 21 March 2020.
- Sent a follow-up email on 21 March 2020.
- Filed another claim (WNEU004751) with World Nomads as this was the only way that I could think of that they cannot claim that they did not receive the requested document and further information.
