Unnecessarily complex

NetSuite seems to have been created to make it more rather than less difficult to track time and expenses. The defaults for keystrokes don't make logical sense, and there are too many fields that a user needs to remember to fill in (more or less a "manual" remembrance).
The only program I've used that is more cumbersome is WorkDay.

Okay, but can be a little bit complex to set up

My company tied the ERP for few months. The idea of reducing manual work with automation is great, but there were troubles with creating user accounts. Fast set up good requires IT knowledge

I wish we had quicker and more detailed rollout....

Beware: Long Onboarding and No Way Out

Our company experienced major structural changes a few months after signing with NetSuite, and we no longer have the personnel or time required to implement their system. Unfortunately, NetSuite has been completely unwilling to work with us on canceling our plan, even though we have not begun using the product. They are insisting that we pay for the full remaining two‑year term, regardless of our situation.
Be aware that once you sign, you are essentially locked in. Make absolutely certain you are ready to commit long‑term, because canceling is not an option. Additionally, the onboarding process is extremely long, resource‑intensive, and, in our experience, quite painful.

Was with NetSuite for many many years. After asking for an extension on payments one year when our founder and boss passed away, they refused and basically held years of data at ransom saying it will get deleted eventually if we don't pay - THEY WILL hold your company at ransom and keep charging you more. Very dishonest company, they will lie and onboard you, then start charging you for every click you make with the program - STAY AWAY

Extremely rude customer service

Extremely rude customer service. Gave me the runaround for 30 minutes, wouldn't connect me to a rep who would give me pricing, and when I finally told him my average buisness revenue, the rep goes "you're not a good fit." When I asked WHY, he said that the starting price was over $1,000 for the services. After thirty minutes of asking for prices, he finally told me only when he realized my buisness was too small. Wasted so much time. Plus, after finding out what my buisness made, he was blatantly rude in chat. Short answers, no politeness, and cut off the conversation without finishing it.

NetSuite renege on pricing agreements

NetSuite is a challenging system which is very expensive compared to equal competitors. Have had many challenging points in set-up and getting good support but recently they removed the negotiated % discount that was present at start of contract. This was because we weren't growing the use/costs. They are now twice as expensive as other systems. Avoid, not trustworthy

Netsuite is total garbage

Never encountered such a useless platform in my life. It can't even cope with as few as two concurrent connections. Utterly hopeless for a regional business with a couple dozen retail outlets.

Locked out, ignored, and left in the dark — for tens of thousands per year.

We’ve paid Oracle NetSuite tens of thousands of euros annually, and yet when we urgently needed clarity on license status, faulty plugins, or disappearing data, support was non-existent. No working phone numbers in our country, no visible expiration info in the admin panel, and no way to reach an account manager. Even our finance department’s repeated emails were ignored.

We can’t open support cases. We can’t find a contact person. And we have no idea when access will be shut off. Call 5 different phone numbers and part of them don't exists, another part kicks you out of the queue and call back requests are left for what it is.

NetSuite's support model is designed for enterprise bureaucracies, not real-world users who need answers fast. This WILL cost you precious time and effort. If you value transparency, accountability, or even basic customer service — look elsewhere. This framework needs to disappear.

Finally Breaking Free of Netsuite

DO NOT SIGN UP. DO NOT.
Netsuite is an accounting system; overpriced and masquerading as a CRM/usable system.

I have been stuck on netsuite for about 13 years...it was ok back in the data for $15,000.

Over time, migrated our websites off to shopify - thank the lord. Our email marketing to better system...all that is left is an overpriced accounting system.

I'm finally making a move after many years of planning/analyzing as a small 3.5 million dollar business.
Netsuite is the worst user interface/system you could possibly design. The Oracle database on backend is powerful and only positive....however, it has memory clearing/caching problems. (won't update/delete an address or name from a ship to, etc).

The worst part is there is NEVER a good default config for anything. You are just left with this enterprise level CLUSTERF of things to configure. Transaction templates that don't autoformat, fields that are too small. You need a consultant for 90% of what you do and I have master's in IT.
Thanks the LORD for chatGPT to ask for instructions, scripts and processes. It ALMOST makes you able to update what would just be a few clicks in any Zoho system.

The renewal process is worse than a used car salesman. Your NORMAL price would be $250,000 but we gave you a 70% discount to bring it down to the price of $40,000.
They are 100% contentious, raise prices every year like it's TX property tax. Provide no useful feature or updates. The email system and DKIM is clunky and spammy at best.
We only have 3 users. Moving to Zoho and never looking back.

Netsuite potential users. Just don't. Don't. Don't.

I look forward to netsuite closing it's doors/shuttered by Oracle...or you better re-code it from scratch.

Their LATEST "offer" was $45,000 with minimum 2 year contract! hahaha

Worse than garbage

The truth? Yeah it’s like everyone says - Net Suite customer service was terrible from day one. And the Oracle software is old fashioned and clumsy. Oracle sales totally lie to prospective customers and promise easy to use and modern, which it’s NOT, obviously. After 7months of wasting our staffs time system is not even functional. We contacted a lawyer to file for damages, but decided it’s just not worth wasting our time or resources. Just move on, and for sure Oracle and Net Suite will go out of business soon anyway. That will of course be great for all the potential victims they have not targeted yet.

Don’t touch it

Don’t touch it. Not if you want your business to survive. I worked for a small UK based firm and we used an old software that yes was getting old and tempremental and the company was ambitious (more than its wallet would allow) and a company like netsuite sweeping in with fancy ideas and “we can do this and we can track products from source to out the door” sounds great but maaaaaan don’t believe then because they cause massive problems.

First is the cost £100,000 and for that you get precious little. They claimed to be building Netsuite specifically to the companies needs but pushed it back so many times because it was never for purpose. They never gave proper training to any staff just you tube videos and when I complained bitterly about this the management of Oracle tried facing me off about it in a suprise meeting (I was on teams with their developers and the Director just joined) and I wouldn’t back down. They launched the software a year over due and it wasn’t fit for purpose and the data they entered and had lifted from our original software package had all been entered wrong. Credits were down as invoices. Figures were wrong. No one had the correct permissions and the roles on the software didn’t fit the job role. It was a mess. Oracle blamed Proton but we gave them access to the software, all the facts and figures and a clear point to move from one to the other. I got the banking to finally balance after 3 months of unpaid overtime trying to sort out their mess only for them to coming in using a back door they had built in and undo the work. I raised complaint after complaint to my Management at Proton and red flags as payment systems weren’t set up properly. It was supposed to draw the statement off the mark everyday and then I check the postings off that it did automatically and it never worked. Never. And worse the developers would come in and change user settings removing permissions with out telling you.

The money Proton sunk in and the ensuing mess a netsuite created meant we couldn’t right it. We couldn’t track things or keep track of invoicing as things just disappeared or their developers cancelled off with no explanation. Not been able to run supplier payments and it not drawing all the information through properly made the system unreliable and Feo what I hear it was the same for the stock side.

When you raised complaints you were told it was your lack of understanding of the system and training (what training!) I even took their guides home on a night and spent hours listening and reading. This system doesn’t work and should not be touched with a 10 ft pole. Use sage it’s simpler but at least it won’t bankrupt the company you work for. They preyed on an over ambitious small company, took the money and left the staff redundant. It’s a cautionary tail.

Imagine a UI from 1995 and that is netsuite...

If you like a UI designed from the 1980s, powered by two mice on a wheel, and an OS that forces you to open more windows than you thought humanly possible, netsuite is the one for you. If you don't, then find a modern digital SAAS company that moves with the decades....

My company has used Netsuite for 9 years, this is what I think of it from an IT perspective.

There are several problems with Netsuite from an IT perspective.

First of all, they're difficult to integrate with. Their API throws more errors than any other API I've ever dealt with, and the errors are extremely useless. They'll say things like "Invalid Entity ID" and it turns out that the issue has nothing to do with entities at all. The API also often throws random 500 errors and authentication errors fairly frequently that our ETL tools have to contend with. The API functions do allow you to submit multiple records at once, however if a single record errors in the batch, it doesn't tell you which one errored, making batch functionality all but useless.

The API typically only pulls back a single record at a time, so we also use their SuiteAnalyticsConnect tool for read-only database communication to get our data out in bulk, and it also throws lots of random errors, but not as frequently as the API. The database connection is also extremely sparse on documentation, and I have spent many, many days worth of development time scratching my head, looking for the right table and right column that I need.

It seems like between the database and API connections, there is a new error message that we've never encountered before at least once a month, even on old integrations that were written 5+ years ago.

The system is very customizable, however you have to have netsuite experts that know what they're doing to really do anything correctly. A novice user creating columns with the wrong data types or using bad structure can really mess up your business and hamper your efforts to customize the system, especially if your business starts using the bad structure, it becomes a monumental effort several years later to correct such issues.

SuiteScripting is a nightmare... I took their suitescript bootcamp course several years ago, and it was such a clumsy language... the function names make no sense, and there is are no useful IDE packages that help you write in their strange, custom javascript-ish language, and lots of gotcha's when it comes to reading and writing to header vs line level records.

We have hired many different consulting firms over the years also to create scripts for us, and they have made a nice, fat, rat's nest of scripts in the environment that nobody understands or dares to touch that slow down every record commit and page load.

SuiteScript coders demand top dollar for pay, and so do Netsuite Admins that know what they're doing, on top of the system itself just being expensive for licensing in general.

Our company ends up writing a lot of ansilary systems outside of netsuite that do the same jobs as netsuite (but faster and in comprehensible programming languages) and then feed data into Netsuite for accounting to review.

We paid for the advanced support packages over the years... they get back to us in 2 weeks now instead of 1 month, and it's always indian coders and system admins that end up helping us (or in some cases, not helping us) and they can be difficult to understand.

Overall, I'd say it's a terrible product from an IT perspective. If you have other choices, look harder at them.

Absolutely find another way

Absolutely find another way. Do not trust them. We are locked into a contract and have spent so much with them. We’re about 1 year into a 3 year agreement of which has been one of the most costly endeavors, but it didn’t stop at the negotiated price, then add shipping software that they conveniently leave out, then add some astronomically high merchant e because the software conveniently doesn’t do that, plus add something else and then realize that you’re captured as a client with an extremely costly exit if you want to. I cannot say this strongly enough, find a different way. If I can save one person the absolute headache and possible bankruptcy because of these monsters, I hope it’s you.
