Nous avons été OBLIGÉS de prendre une assurance complémentaire alors que nous avions déjà pris l'assurance premium lors de notre réservation. Résultat, un surcoût de plus de 245€, et sans aucune possibilité de discussion.
Un scandale.
Sans parler du fait que l'on nous fait signer un état des lieux sans même nous le signifier: après le paiement par CB, il nous est demandé de signer sur le TPE. Cette signature est au final apposée sur des documents contractuels, à notre insu. Du jamais vu.

HOWEVER ( and here’s the catch!)….
Upon returning our car they inspected it and asked us to sign off their report which showed the vehicle had NO DAMAGE!!! They wouldn’t give us a copy of the signed report, instead advising it’d be emailed to us ….however, it never was!!!
Then, they Ignored numerous reminders for the report to be sent whilst at the same time deducting a further £130 from us !
They then ignored communications asking what this additional payt was for?
They eventually responded to say the payt was for damage to the vehicle!!! They had falsified the report that had been signed at the airport to include damage and advised that the vehicle had been returned damaged! They also included a picture of this damage which they or someone else had inflicted!!! Absolutely outrageous!!!!! This company is on the fiddle and we’ve been scammed! Beware anyone that uses this branch of Goldcar!! Our mistake was not insisting on a copy of the signed report at the airport and also not videoing the vehicle when we returned it to show the condition it was returned in!

We had a costly and frustrating experience in April this year with Gold Car (through Do You Spain) which cost us an additional £400+. We didn’t get the car we booked or level of insurance we understood we were getting so additional charges were made to amend the insurance cover and get the car we ordered. If we hadn’t increased the insurance, Gold Car were going to hold £1800 on our credit card and if 1 scratch was on the car on its return, this would be lost. Given we collected the car at midnight with no visual checks done with a GC employee, it’s fair to assume we would have been blamed for 1 of the many areas of damaged and lost that too. The extra insurance (fully comp ((which we understood we already had)), cost us an additional £24 a day).
In August, we collected a car we booked direct this time (as advised by Gold Car), only to find yet again, we did not get the car we ordered (automatic) and were given not only a manual but a Skoda 😡. We had to pay another £120 plus experiencing apathetic customer ‘service’ whilst listening to another customer experiencing the same rip off speech and additional costs. The car we eventually were forced to upgrade to was a very low spec and filthy dirty. Also in a completely different parking bay to what they advised.
DO NOT use this company direct or otherwise. They lie, give you damaged cars with all paperwork in Spanish, no user guide and will leave your wallet considerably lighter and you feeling like your head is going to explode. Not the start to a holiday you would choose. Corrupt. I am convinced the staff work on commission for these extra charges.
Two days before we were due to hand the vehicle back we started getting emails (in German) stating that the vehicle had been involved in an accident and we had 48hrs to respond. A week later after several emails and calls, they eventually sent us a photo of the damaged car. A totally different vehicle. Their incompetence is never ending.
Goldcar rental in Spain
Rented with Goldcar in Spain, Valencia. Instead of taking a holding deposit, Goldcar took full amount for car rental plus deposit and charged my credit card. As a result, my bank charged me no UK transaction fee of £32. In addition, no one explained that there will be additional fee for having driving license less than 4 years, no one asked me if I have other licenses/ proof of any other driving experience from abroad. Complains were ignored and not addressed.

I booked a rental car at GOLDCAR (Mallorca airport) via DoYouSpain. Although this site gets great reviews be careful with it because this looks like just an ordinary searching site. You deal with the rental service and NOT with DoYouSpain. DoYouSpain is collecting the money however when you have issues you cannot contact them. So it is better to look for the reviews of GOLDCAR at Tripadvisor or Trustpilot.
Issues getting the car at the airport:
1. Paying EXTRA for an unnecessary insurance of € 360 which was not in the on-line price and I certainly didn’t want.
2. Paying EXTRA for the fuel charge of € 94 because the fuel is NOT included in the online-price (lesson learned on my side do not let them fool you with the lowest price this one I should have read in the small letters of the contract).
3. The online reserved car was not there.
4. Arguing about the above issues was nearly impossible because the pretty looking GOLDCAR-lady hardly spoke any English which is really awkward at an international airport.
My rental price was more than DOUBLED due to the EXTRA amounts I had to pay above the agreed on-line price. This undermines the trust people should have in each other or in companies. This feels like a SCAM. Be warned and look for a more trustworthy rental car-service then GOLDCAR.

Reserve un vehículo en el aeropuerto de Málaga a través de internet a Do you Spain y cuando llego a recoger el vehículo no me dejaron recogerlo hasta que no pagara la totalidad del tanque de gasolina y otro seguro para el coche cuando ya estaba pagado todo con la empresa Do you Spain. A la terminación de entrega del vehículo me dijeron que todo estaba bien y que no tendría que pagar nada más y me encuentro con la sorpresa de que al día siguiente me cobran 150 € por una limpieza que según ellos tenemos que hacer nosotros y otra vez el depósito de gasolina junto con faltas que traía el vehículo de otra gente y habiendo pagado yo seguro todo riesgo.
Por parte del personal de trabajo son todos unos amargados y desagradables, tanto en tienda como por teléfono. CUIDADO CON ESTOS PERSONAJES QUE SOLO HACEN ENGAÑAR A TODOS LOA QUE ALQUILAN.

🚦GOLDCAR : CAUTIONS NON-RESTITUÉES - ARNAQUE
J'ai loué 2 véhicules chez GoldCar Malaga airport payé à l’avance via l’organisme Do You Spain, lors de mes 2 séjours de juillet 2024.
J’ai également souscrit l’assurance Platinum en même temps que ma réservation du véhicule auprès de Do You Spain pour être couverte/assurée au mieux lors de mes deux séjours.
- Premier séjour du 3 juillet au 11 juillet 2024: une Peugeot 2008. Montant payé en ligne assurance platinium incluse:89,52 €
- Deuxième séjour du 16 au 27 juillet 2024: une Fiat 500. Montant payé en ligne assurance platinium incluse: 107,86 €. Dans mes documents d’assurance reçus de DoYouSpain, il est stipulé que GoldCar me demandera une caution au moment où je réceptionne le véhicule , que ce montant n’est pas prélevé et qu’il est seulement bloqué par empreinte sur ma carte de crédit. Lorsque j’ai réceptionné les clefs du véhicule au guichet de Malaga Airport, l employé m’a effectivement dit qu’il allait faire une empreinte de ma carte de crédit en guise de caution et que cette même caution allait m’être restituée dès le retour de la voiture.
À ce jour, les 2 cautions clairement prélevées par GoldCar sur mes 2 cartes de crédit ne m’ont toujours pas été restituées!
Un premier montant de 429,29€ a été débité le 4 juillet 2024 et un deuxième montant de 419,64€ le 16 juillet au comptoir Goldcar Aeropuerto; ce qui correspond chaque fois
aux dates de réception des clefs de véhicule en début de location.
GoldCar me doit effectivement le montant total de 848,93 € (caution 1e location: 429,29€ + caution 2e location: 419,64€).
Lorsque j’ai introduit ma plainte auprès de Goldcar, pour ces deux arnaques consécutives à 15 jours d’intervalle, ils m’ont répondu que ces 2 montants prélevés correspondaient à des taxes d’aéroport et autres assurances ultra Flexx super Flexx auxquelles je n’ai jamais souscrites puisque j’avais déjà une assurance prise chez DoYouSpain!! Cette société pratique depuis de nombreuses années, ce même type d’arnaque… Comment est-ce possible que celle-ci soit encore présente sur le marché et continue quotidiennement à voler les gens?

They force you into taking extra insurance of 300-1000 euros DESPITE specifically stating that I had paid the full price & did not want or need excess cover as I had a holiday excess policy.

This is not a Goldcar requested review. I know and read before going to Malaga that there have been numerous problems with renting cars from Goldcar. But I only can write that we had a super experience with renting our car from Goldcar in July 2024. Our Ryanair flight was very delayed and we arrived very stressed with our two young children shortly before MIDNIGHT at Goldcar rental counter. - I must say Isabel was great. Although she had a very stressful day (car cleaning facility had problems), she was very friendly and helpful. When our kids start crying (midnight etc) she spontaneously gave them s.th. to draw (paper and pens). Then she handle our rental car in very competent and friendly manner. We both made some jokes and had been smiling all the time. We got a great new car (Skoda SUV, clean & in excellent conditions, 3,500 km on the clock) and then drove happily for 2 additional hours to Almeria. Luckily I didn't fall asleep thanks to my wife. We had lots of fun during our Spanish holidays and the car was a pleasure to drive.
I know from all the reviews on Trustpilot that others had not so great experiences with Goldcar and I was worried. But this is my 2nd Goldcar renting event (last time 10 years ago) and both time it went well. Hopefully others will be lucky, too.

It's an absolute scam of a car rental company. The price doubles when you pick up the car on-site after paying everything online. They have a lot of hidden costs that appear when you get the car and again after you return it. I picked up the car at Madrid airport and encountered very rude staff. The price also increased due to numerous "fines" that are applied for reasons only God knows. After returning the car, be prepared to be charged at any time if they think something went wrong. Their terms and conditions actually state that they will charge you an extra 40 euros in Spain if you get a speeding ticket, just for forwarding you a form from the police. Plus, they will charge you an extra 10 euros if you pay the fine through their system. Avoid them.

I rented the car IT goldcar. I have two credit cards, a VISA from Revolut and a VISA debit from the American bank, both working (with which I could buy a car). I had a rate of 199 euros, but I was told that my cards were not good and we had to use my wife's card (the only one that worked?) and pay a comprehensive insurance of 260 euros additional. So with a rate more than doubled. With my cards I could not rent it and I would also have lost 199 euros, paid with the VISA card from Revolut... so sometimes it's okay! As if that were not enough, the car was delivered dirty (there were empty bottles, a hair and an umbrella, had it not even been opened?) and without water for the windshield wipers. When I asked about it, they told us that cleaning it up would take a long time.

Horrible.... pésimo servicio.... pagas online, llegas a x el vehículo y te quieren colar un seguro de 130 euros... sino una fianza de 1230 euros... solo te dejan pagar con una tarjeta(no puedes usar otra, la de tu mujer por ejemplo) empeñados en venderte el seguro.. trato pésimo...
Al final dos días de coche más de 200 euros. De verdad son unos estafadores... huir de esa compañía...
Stolen money from credit card during pick up.
Upon picking up the vehicle at the Malaga airport reception. The desk staff said that they would block two amounts on my credit card. One amount for the damage excess and one amount for missing fuel upon return. This was fine as it is explained in the booking information.
Instead of blocking an amount they charged my credit card £133.27. I have contacted Goldcar but there has been no reply yet, except an automated one saying that they have 14 days to reply.
The staff gave no receipts for any transactions and no signature given.
Goldcar, if you read your reviews, give me my money back as your employee has stolen from me.
I already had the extra insurance as I used a very well known company called Bo**ing.com (fill in the blanks) to book the rental. I got the excess insurance through them. So I definitely didn’t need that. The counter staff get very angry and pushy when you don’t take it out with them. They try to pressure you into getting the extra insurance saying that any insurance you have paid for is not good enough. They must get commission for selling it. It is not a nice experience for the customers
Goldcar, your staff are either blatantly lying to people, require extra training, or you have told them to hard sell the insurance. Either way, it’s not acceptable.
Again, I require a refund. This money was taken on the day I picked up the vehicle so it cannot be related to anything regarding the vehicle upon its return 6 days later. It’s theft, simple as that.
I look forward to their reply blaming the customer.

I had a pleasant experience with Goldcar-Ibiza Airport(via Discovercars.com), from picking up to returning my rental car.
I had purchased a Car Hire Excess Insurance in advance. The staff did offer me their own insurance. The fact that I already had my own insurance, I politely declined. The lovely staff never did the usual "Hard Sell".
I did my due diligence in checking the vehicle for damages before driving off the garage, and upon returning the car. (I even had it washed to show the checker that there was no damage.) I got my full deposit back within 24 hours.
The car was great. It had only over 1000 KM driven.

I’ve used Goldcar for the first and the last time
I’ve used Goldcar for the first and the last time. When we arrived to pick up our reserved car at Alicante Airport, we were offered a wreck of a car with dents and scratches all over the car. We were of course forced to pay extra taxes upon pickup which was not informed about or included in our reservation. After redelivery of the car, I get an e-mail where Goldcar claim to have found a minor scratch impossible to see without a bright light on one of the door handles and claim EUR 172 for the damages. I took pictures of the car at pickup, but it is impossible to have pictures on such a detailed level and I consider scratches like this to be consistent with normal use and age of the vehicle. My conclusion is that I will never use Goldcar again and urge others not to use this unserious car rental agency either. Stay away from Goldcar!

Do not use goldcar car rental at Modilin airport in Warsaw , Poland . They will try to keep your deposit and claim that the car was damaged if you don’t take their extra full insurance . I was accused first of causing a scratch on the paintwork but it was listed on the document I had that the mark was already there. Then they accused me of a scratch on the window and have not returned any of my deposit. Avoid this company
