I've generated a real-estate deal for LPC where in turn I was supposed to get a commission. AFter more than a year of running after LPC and their manager Lee, They did not pay me to this day. I would not do any business with them or trust them with any deal.

Just received an unsolicited call from ‘Devon Wilson’ on a phone number which is registered with the TPS.

After some introductory spiel about me having recently expressed interest in property investments in the north west (I last did so in c.2017) I asked him where he’d got my details from, what his surname was & confirmation of his company name. He bs’d something or other about me expressing interest earlier this year & tried at least twice to avoid giving me his surname, but did confirm the company name.

He then said it was clear I was no longer interested & would therefore terminate the call; at which point I informed him that he was in clear breach of GDPR, that this can have very clear & undesirable consequences for his company & that he could choose to either co-operate with my reasonable questions or close the call & deal with the ICO.

That changed his attitude for a little while; at the 3rd or 4th time of asking he confirmed his full name, & agreed to check his data source. After doing so he mentioned Media City as the source & said it was old data that he’d been working on & he’d remove me from their records. I brought a new build apartment from Media City / X1 in 2017; after handing over a five figure deposit the apartment became the subject of repeated delays, none of which were communicated effectively & often not at all, whilst the agent maintained the ludicrous pretence that they couldn’t give me better information as a developer they’ve worked with for over a decade & share an office with in view of the new build site doesn’t tell them what’s happening with the building schedule. I eventually withdrew & got all my funds back, but lost nearly £800 on legal fees which Media City / X1 refused to reimburse. So, I’m guessing they’ve either brought, or acquired, my details from Media City / X1 but I’d like that confirmed so I can follow up & find out who else their source (whether it’s Media City / X1 or someone else) has passed my details onto in breach of data privacy.

I then asked if the call was being recorded & when informed it wasn’t, I asked for an email confirming our call & double checked that Devon had my correct e-mail address.

Devon went to check with a manager & when he came back informed that I’d have to write to them requesting this information. I told Devon that as his company had breached my data privacy I wasn’t about to set off on a wild goose chase around his company & their associates & if I was to write any e-mail it would be to the ICO at which point he hung up.

After a few minutes I’ve rung back, told Devon that hanging up on me really wasn’t very smart & was passed onto a senior manager Ryan Griffiths. A more reasonable conversation has ensued, which moves this from a 1 star review to 2 stars. The outcome of that conversation is that LPC will email me summarising my call with Devon, they will confirm they have removed my data from their records & they will look into where they originally got my data from, & get back to me on how long it take to fully check this out.

Would I trust this company to handle six-figure plus property investments? Your money, your choice. I certainly wouldn’t.

Update in response to LPC:

I accept that Devon may have found the conversation with me ‘challenging’ but it was a million miles from ‘haranguing’ or ‘bullying’. Being firm & assertive, in a polite, calm, manner, when insisting on getting to the bottom of how a company making an unsolicited call on a number registered with the TPS got hold of my details is neither ‘haranguing’ or ‘bullying’. Refusing, firmly but politely, to be brushed off by someone trying to end a call without making any effort beyond a generalised guess to answer my reasonable questions about this, asked politely, is also not ‘haranguing’ or ‘bullying’.

Furthermore, if Devon had felt I had been in anyway unreasonable in my tone, never mind bullying - as opposed to politely asking reasonable questions that he was unable to answer - I’m very certain this would have been mentioned in the follow-up call with Ryan. It wasn’t & when I gave feedback about how Devon had handled the call, this was accepted.

I accept that we all get it wrong occasionally but when your staff cold call people on a number registered with the TPS they can generally expect a hostile reception & probably in many cases one that is rather less polite than you got from me yesterday.

PS - I was a little mystified by LPC’s overall high rating on Trustpilot as it was out of kilter with my experience. A further check shows that the vast majority of the 5 star ratings which skew the overall score so high are ‘Invited’ or from people with no other reviews. Something anyone considering investing very large sums with LPC might want to take into consideration.

I was thoroughly impressed with my interactions with Ryan Griffiths at LPC invest. He was both friendly and professional and answered any questions in a clear and timely manner. I never felt any pressure and he made it easy to contact him at any point. I would certainly invest through LPC Invest again.
