Hope4Paws UK & Spanish Rescue (also known as H4P) is currently a social enterprise rescuing dogs who have faced cruelty and abandonment in Spain. Our goal is to get as many of these dogs out of these situations and into homes within the UK. We have big goals and hope for you all to join us on the adventure to a better world. We have adopted over 100 dogs within a year of being open. We use the 3 R’s to ensure our dogs are ready to join a home with you (Rescue, Rehabilitation, and Rehome.) We are a family here at H4P built for a good cause, which are the survivors of Spain. This all started with one beautiful dog Loki and his owner Michelle. Michelle started this off after seeing what Loki had gone through and here we are now. We look forward to what lies ahead. Thank you.

Muchas gracias. Gracias. Thank you. This means such a lot to us. We are truly emotional reading such wonderful reviews to people who have known and were the ones that rescued our dogs. We want you to know that your hard work in Spain treating and rehabilitating these beautiful souls is carried on when they get to the Uk. Thank you .

My Very Positive Experience with Hope4Paws UK & Spain

I adopted my lovely Bruce from Hope4Paws UK and Spain. From the very beginning, they listened to my requirements, were incredibly helpful and communicative and kept me updated throughout the process. Bruce came to me from Spain, and I was even able to track his journey as he made his way to me which was really reassuring.
Bruce came from the streets, but he is a wonderful dog- lovely, affectionate and incredibly intelligent.
More recently, I had the opportunity to foster a second dog, Leon, a Spanish Mastin, through the charity. Leon arrived very shut down and traumatised by his past experiences, but underneath all of that he is truly a gentle giant. Watching him begin to feel safe and trust people has been incredibly rewarding.
The work this charity does in a world where, sadly people seem to care less and less about animals, is hugely important. They genuinely love the dogs in their care and work incredibly hard to give them a better life. That much is very clear to see and I find what they do and their commitment to the dogs, genuinely inspiring.

It is particularly disappointing to see negative comments that could potentially put people off adopting or supporting these dogs and ultimately it is the dogs that suffer as a result.
Hopefully anyone who truly loves dogs should want to see these vulnerable animals rescued, rehabilitated and given the chance to fine loving homes. These kind of charities should be supported for the important work they do, not vilified for trying to save dogs who might otherwise have nobody.

Hope for invisible dogs

Thanks to these people, hundreds of dogs from Spain find a home where they experience love. And what is even more extraordinary, we are talking about adoptions of dogs that, due to their characteristics (for example: size), are invisible when it comes to being adopted. Thank you for everything, and keep saving lives!

Hello my name is Cristina

Hello my name is Cristina , I rescue animals in the worst conditions in Spain
This rescue and Michele jones has helped me
To find amazing families for them
She’s just a precious soul, such a trust and lovely person ..
She always tries to help the animals with no chance , the ones no other rescues want to help , she helps the sick dogs , the injured ones.. she spends a lot of money , her own money to give them the best medical treatments when she has a doubt about one adoption she never gives the animals always triying to protect them
She found super amazing families for the dogs I have rescued and I’m always in touch with all
Of them , this rescue and Michelle care the dogs even years after they have been adopted , not other rescues do this I’m sure of that
It’s one of the most serious rescue group amd the most amazing president , Michelle jones
If anybody tell bad things
About them it becouse they don’t know them or bevouse those bad people couldn’t have the animals they wanted becouse they weren’t good enough to adopt a dog
So thank youuu soooo much for giving a new chance to allll those poor souls
Trust them !! They save soo many angels without chances .. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you Cristina your post has made me very emotional, I will continue to help you. Thank you also for continuing your rescue work in Spain I know it is very hard. You are one of the rescuers in Spain that covers all the dog's blood tests before travel, even Brucellosis even though it is expensive to test, all their vaccines and neutering, worming and microchip. You are not part of a big rescue association you are an individual and well respected in Spain. Thank you for trusting us.

Knowing the dog Bandit who was adopted…

Knowing the dog Bandit who was adopted some time ago, all I can say is Hope4paws uk do amazing work for these dogs.
Bandit was a very poor sole when he arrived.
Scared of everything & everyone but still wanted to be loved & to please.
I have looked after Bandit on occasions for his owners & he is the most loving, quirky little dog .
He has come on leaps & bounds with the help & support from Hope4paws uk.
He can now be taken out for walks & let off his lead, his recall is spot on, he loves every dog he meets & is so sociable with people. It is night & day from when he first arrived.
Hope4paws uk, had everything in place for his arrival, vaccinations, passport, ect. He arrived tired but well cared for. He is a perfect match for the young couple he has been placed with.
I can not fault Hope4paws UK in any way. They have always been professional & always available at the end of the phone for any advice when needed.
It breaks my heart to think what this poor boy has been through, yet he still has so much love to give 💜

Michelle's response is full of…

Michelle's response is full of inaccuracies,
The point is, they are so nice and supportive when you want to adopt . They drop you like a hot brick when there is a problem. Not only that, they avoid all accountability.
I had to give our adopted dog back meeting strangers at a service station, and we were devastated, michelle then put her in a home that had not completed house checks. I dont want to say any more, apart from...if you are considering adopting from here be mindful that they have never met the dogs and have no idea about the info they have been given. If it goes wrong you are dumped, removed from the group too, meaning no support from your group of adopters.
We adopted phoebe and when we had problems, we had to meet strangers at a service station, with her belongings, we later were informed that this person had not even had a home check completed (travelling from the IOW to Chievely)

"This review is entirely false and is part of a documented, malicious harassment campaign orchestrated by a third party. To clarify the factual record regarding Phoebe: You informed us you were going to euthanise her because you could not manage her behavior. Rather than let that happen, our rescue stepped in immediately to save her life and successfully rehomed her. The new owner was fully home-checked, and Phoebe is currently safe, happy, and well-settled in her new home. You took her to the new owner because you had an 'event' you didn't want to miss ? We have fully logged your comments, alongside the coordinated messages and are escalating this to our legal counsel and the police under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

"This is a fake profile linked to John Smale's malicious campaign. Your claim is impossible: we currently have no Romanian dogs at all. We have no record of any inquiry from you. When we do import, every dog undergoes rigorous health checks and Brucellosis blood testing with full certification. This targeted smear campaign is part of an active police investigation. Any genuine adopter can see this is a malicious attempt to damage our rescue." All post are reported. We welcome any government department to inspect our records. They do amazing work

We had an absolutely incredible experience adopting our beautiful boy from Hope4Paws! The team were very thorough with their vetting process insuring our home was a suitable and safe environment for the dog to come into.

Once approved we were kept updated on Snoopys adoption process, his vet care, when he was being neutered and when he would be making the trip to the UK. Any questions we had were answered promptly and in detail and the communication between the UK and Spanish teams was brilliant. We were even sent photos and videos of Snoopy in the mean time.

When he was on his way we could track the driver and were kept updated on the dogs wellbeing.

We could not be happier! Snoopy arrived and is everything the team told us he would be, he fits into our family perfectly and the fact that the team want to be kept updated on his progress and are still on hand to answer any questions is so heartwarming.

Please rescue your dog from here, it is definitely a cause worth supporting

Based on my personal experience

Based on my personal experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering adopting or fostering through H4P to do extensive research, ask detailed questions, and request complete veterinary records, behavioural assessments and copies of the dog’s passport before making any commitment.

I was fortunate that I chose to foster before deciding whether to adopt. Had I adopted Leon outright, the outcome could have been very different.

Leon was described as a 4-year-old dog. When he arrived in the UK, his passport showed he was actually 7 years old. He was also far larger than he appeared in the photographs.

After travelling for over 24 hours from Spain, Leon arrived exhausted, emotionally shut down and in poor physical health. Despite this, he was one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met. My concerns were never about his temperament, but about his health, emotional wellbeing and the conditions he had clearly experienced before arriving in the UK.

I agreed to foster Leon for three weeks but extended this to seven. Unfortunately, he became increasingly withdrawn. I raised my concerns with Michelle and Kerry, expecting we would discuss the best way forward. Instead, his adopter was asked to collect him the following day. Although I offered to continue fostering him so proper transport arrangements could be made and he could continue to decompress, my offer was declined.

The adopter and her friend drove four hours to collect Leon in a Mini Cooper. Her friend was recovering from throat cancer. Before Leon left, I informed the adopter that his passport showed he was older than she had been told and shared my concerns about his health.

Six weeks later I was informed Leon had escaped on the day he was collected and remained missing for two days before being found.

What shocked me most was learning that the adopter had allegedly been told Leon was “in danger” in my care and that I had been feeding him raw chicken. These allegations are completely false.

I took a week off work to care for Leon, slept on my sofa so he wouldn’t be alone, hand-fed him cooked chicken because he was reluctant to eat, paid around £70 for his food and bought my own slip lead because none had been provided.

I have photographs, videos, receipts and messages documenting the care Leon received.

I was also disappointed to learn Leon was later removed from his adopter after being found.

I was further upset to see H4P publish what I believe to be an inaccurate version of events on Facebook, using a photograph taken in my own living room while Leon was in my care, captioned “Leon after”.

Everything I have written is based on my firsthand experience or information communicated directly to me, and I have retained documentation supporting my account.

Based on my experience, I believe there is a lack of transparency regarding some dogs’ ages, medical histories, behavioural backgrounds and health conditions. I also believe adopters should be fully informed if a dog has leishmaniasis, as it may require lifelong treatment and may not be covered by insurance as a pre-existing condition.

Update following H4P’s response: H4P have confirmed they do not receive a dog’s passport until it is ready to travel, meaning basic information such as age is not verified before placement. They also incorrectly state they refused my request for a puppy and that I was removed and blocked from their groups. In fact, they told me they had no puppies but offered to arrange transport if I found one in Spain. I left the groups voluntarily and blocked the organisation myself.

I have enormous respect for ethical rescue organisations and the volunteers who dedicate themselves to helping animals. Unfortunately, my experience with H4P was the opposite. Above all, I hope Leon is finally safe and receiving the loving home he always deserved.

Odpowiedź od Hope4Paws UK & Spanish Rescue

We are disappointed to read this review as we believe it presents an incomplete and, in several places, inaccurate account of events.

Our priority has always been the welfare of the dogs in our care. As with all overseas rescues, we make it clear to prospective fosterers and adopters that information such as age, breed, temperament and history is provided in good faith based on the information available to us. We also clearly explain that we do not receive the dog's passport until the dog is ready to travel, meaning details such as the recorded date of birth are not available to us beforehand.

The reviewer states that Leon's age was deliberately withheld. This is simply not the case. We informed everyone involved as soon as we received his passport and became aware of the information ourselves.

The reviewer also makes numerous claims about Leon's rescue after he left her care. She was removed and blocked from our group and from groups in Spain because of inappropriate comments, and communication ceased immediately when Leon left her home, so she was not involved in, or present for, the events that followed. She therefore cannot accurately comment on the decisions made during his recovery or the extensive work undertaken by our volunteers.

When Leon went missing, it was our rescue team that immediately coordinated the response, working around the clock on social media, organising search efforts, liaising with volunteers, and requesting assistance from a specialist trap team. Our volunteers remained on site throughout the search until Leon was safely recovered. We are grateful to every individual and organisation that helped bring him to safety but it was our team's dedication and co-ordination that brought him home safely.

The reviewer also alleges that we told the adopter Leon was "in danger" and that he had been fed raw chicken. We categorically dispute these allegations. At no point did we tell the adopter that Leon had been fed raw chicken, and we have no record of making the statements attributed to us.

It is also incorrect to suggest we failed to provide equipment. Suitable transport arrangements had been discussed with the adopter, who chose to collect Leon knowing they turned up to collect the dog without a collar, harness or lead. A harness and lead were due to be provided, but circumstances changed following concerns regarding the foster placement and immediate arrangements were made to remove Leon.

The reviewer refers to Leon's later removal from his adopter and speculates about matters she had no involvement in. For reasons of confidentiality and data protection, we cannot discuss another person's adoption or the welfare decisions made in relation to one of our dogs.

We also note that, despite the serious criticisms made in this review, the reviewer asked us to adopt a puppy, we refused.

Everyone is entitled to share their experience, but reviews should distinguish between firsthand events and assumptions or information obtained second-hand. We remain committed to transparency, to acting in the best interests of our dogs, and to supporting our adopters and fosterers wherever possible.

After being lost for two and a half days and two nights he is still in recovery. We all wish Leon nothing but a happy, safe future and remain proud of the dedication shown by our volunteers, who give their time freely to help vulnerable dogs.

I recently adopted our loving dog Sira from hope4paws. Communication from them was amazing from start to finish. Any quesions or doubts we had (day or night) they were by our side supporting us. Even now the support continues. They regularly kept us updated on the whole process, from leaving Spain to arriving at our front door. They are an amazing non-profitable team that give up there own personal time to help abandoned dogs. They all have jobs, family etc. Getting them out of horrendous situations and giving them the love they so desperately need. My respect goes out to every single one of the team. Thankyou everyone for our amazing dog. Sira's filled the void that we had in our hearts after our dog passed away in April. Love every single one of the team. Thankyou again 💕

I absolutely recommend Hope4Paws Forever

Having read the extremely negative and unfair review left recently I can only say I do not recognise the organisation, or the experience, they describe. I am at a loss as to why they would attack an organisation that puts the welfare of the dogs above everything!? I adopted a Spanish rescue from them and have absolutely nothing but praise for them and the process. And to suggest that supporters like me will rush to defend them at any cost is frankly ridiculous and offensive. Their supporters also care about the welfare of the dogs, have had a professional and caring adoption experience and who would never defend the indefensible. Rather than trying to discredit this admirable organisation you should perhaps question your motives first. Do your research, these are rescues, often with a troubled past, who will require work on the adopters part. Presumably not what you believed you were signing up for. Your review says far more about you then Hope4Paws. I hope you can find the dog you want.

Amazing team and experience 🩷

We recently rescued our beautiful 6 month old Mora from Spain with the help of the incredible Hope4Paws team. Our experience was nothing short of wonderful and have been supported through every single step of the way. Every measure was taken to ensure we were a suitable forever home for our girl and we were even able to track her journey from Spain to our home which eased a lot of nerves. We were provided with photos every toilet break to reassure us that she was okay and once she finally arrived, she settled in instantly. A huge thanks to Michelle, Kerry, Patty and the rest of the team and we wouldn’t have the missing piece of the puzzle in our little family without them, our beautiful Mora is thriving 🩷

Well i have adopted 2 dogs from Hope4paws. One i fostered for a little while her name is Poppy, Michelle arranged all that was necessary fòr us to pick up Poppy safely. Then we adopted another dog named Alma we adopted her from Spain, they are both mixed breeds. Michelle and staff are amazing. The adoption process is excellent. The information you receive is amazing and detailed. The staff are their to support you 24/7. Kerry was fab at listening and advising me when I had questions and worries. The actual travelling from Spain was tracked through a WhatsApp group which had been arrange all by Michelle and her team. I was kept informed of all times and when Alma would be delivered. The transport team were fab too. I would definitely recommend Hope4paws to anyone who wants to Adopt a dog. Many thanks Michelle and the hope4paws team.

Me, my husband and our little pug Bailey were searching to adopt another pug to complete our family. We then found Dora on the website hope4paws. The process of adoption was so quick, the home interview with Kerry super efficient and also very professional. We went on the same day to take Dora. Now our family is completed and my house is overflowing with happiness and so much fun with those 2 little sisters playing the whole time. Adopting a dog is a gesture of love and the love they give back to you there is no words to describe !

After losing my dog 2 years previous I was toying with the idea of getting another; would he be happy if I welcomed another dog into the home and would it feel like betrayal.
After speaking with the wonderful H4P team and learning how they aim to rehome as many dogs as possible into loving environments, I decided to bite the bullet and enquire about a lovely Brittany Spaniel.
And from the moment I enquired to now, I have received nothing but endless support and encouragement from the entire team.
And the dog, Brodie, has been the most welcomed mischievous member of the family.
H4P hold you hand every step of the way, they guide you through the adoption process and are on standby if you need help, guidance or advice; they actually care.
Thank you to the entire team for bringing Brodie to me, I appreciate you all

Trustworthy and caring.

Remarkable achievement by a small charity of genuine, compassionate individuals operating on a shoestring. I had delivered into my home a lovely young GSD, Reno, who was facing an undeserved death in a kill pound. Michelle and Kerry input personal energy and experience; he is as had been presented, calm, affectionate and friendly (also intelligent and perceptive.) I am lost in admiration for the van driver Eddie who managed a dozen or so dogs from southern Spain - never had a rescue in such good, clean condition. A few of my subsequent queries have been replied. I was cautious as a retiree taking on a large overseas dog but he is the best of companions, always at my side. Thankyou Hope4Paws.
