I'm a Homadorma host and I just received my first student booking. The whole booking process is easy and straight forward. I like the way that I can talk to the students directly rather than communicating via an agency.

Thanks for sharing your experience on homadorma! Direct communication between hosts and students is what we strive to promote. We encourage students and hosts message get to know each other before booking in order to drive a positive experience after moving in.
Very bad policies
Wife has an account with Homadorma but it's been over 2 years & she's not got one positive reply or a single student.
Even after getting their premium service & paying for everything she's not got a single positive result
She has accommodation in a higher end premium location but most students who enquire want below market level housing accommodation which is not possible
Also if students want housing & enquire they are closed for questions on the weekends
With a result most students with enquiries find housing elsewhere which is a waist of time
On the search engine she gets students that are 100 km or 2 hours away from the Homestay but she sees results for students on Kijiji in the area
It's pretty mysterious how she doesn't get the students in the area of the accommodation

We have a smart listing plan that allows hosts to take the initiative to contact students. However, it is not a guarantee that hosts are able to rent their properties out by purchasing such services. Our customer service replies student and host inquiries in 1-2 business days. Unfortunately we are not able to reply inquiries after hours when our office is closed. However, our online message system between hosts and students are open all the time. You may feel free to connect with students anytime during the day.
There are many factors that may affect the performance. A property in the great location may get many student inquiries. But if none of them is fruitful, maybe it's better to check how much other homestays are charging in the same area. I cannot say I have used many homestay booking platforms, but in my experience this one is the best. They gave me a clear channel to promote their property and got it rented within one month.

Unreasonable fees and not following their own policy
I am a homestay host. I terminated a contract with a student from India due to flight restrictions caused by Covid-19. The move-in date was supposed to be July 1, 2021 but Canada's flight restrictions from India is up to July 21. Homadorma will penalize me $500 to activate my account due to termination of contract with student. I complained, but instead they deactivated my account permanently. They are violating their own policy of exemptions due to pandemic. How stupid can they get? They expect student to move in on July 1st but flight restrictions are still up? If the Termination is student initiated, just the same, homadorma will not refund the student. Students, a word of advice, look for other homestay agencies who provide free services, avoid homadorma like a plague.

I'm sorry to learn about your experience. A booking contract termination initiated by hosts creates significant impacts on the student side. It results in students looking for homestays in the last minute. Some students may have to settle with the property that they do not like to reside in as a compromise. In order to discourage such practices, Homadorma penalize hosts from terminating a contract already confirmed by both parties.
Flight restrictions are set by government based on pandemic situation. For example, currently there is a flight ban from India to Canada. However, students from India can still arrive in Canada via the third country. In case that students cannot arrive on time, we encourage students to communicate with hosts and negotiate a later move-in date in order to keep the contract active. I'm sorry to see that you do not wish to change the move-in date for the student.
Homadorma does not charge hosts for advertising properties on homadorma in the basic account. We've had many homestays that booked students successfully without paying anything.
