It was a great experience to do the YTT in the surrounding of the Himalaya! The teachers were all very professional, the rooms clean, the meals delicious and the staff always friendly and helpful. I would devinitely recommend this school!

Completing my 200h YTTC and 50h Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh was one of the most intense, challenging, emotional, and beautiful experiences of my life. It pushed me far out of my comfort zone, taught me so many valuable lessons, and became such a huge enrichment for my life.
The teachers were all incredibly knowledgeable, supportive, and passionate about what they teach. They truly cared about every single student and created such a safe and inspiring environment to learn and grow in. I felt supported in every possible way throughout the entire journey — and even after the training ended.
A huge thank you as well to the office and organization team for their kindness, warmth, and constant support. Everyone made us feel so welcome from the very beginning.
What made this experience even more special were the people. We arrived as strangers and left feeling like a family, and by the end the school truly felt like home. Leaving was so difficult.
And I also have to mention the food — the vegan meals were absolutely amazing every single day 🤍
I’m forever grateful for this unforgettable experience and for all the beautiful souls I met along the way.

The training was challenging in the best possible way — it asked for discipline, presence, and honesty with myself. It wasn’t always easy, but that’s exactly what made it so valuable. I left feeling stronger, more grounded, and more connected to my practice.
The teachers hold a deep well of knowledge, and their passion for yoga is clear in every class. They don’t just teach postures — they share a way of living, rooted in tradition and awareness.
The accommodation was clean, comfortable, and peaceful, providing a supportive space to rest and integrate everything we learned each day. The yoga shala itself is something special — with large windows opening out towards the mountains, it creates a breathtaking atmosphere to practice in.
Surrounded by birds, monkeys, cows, and even horses, with the presence of the mountains and the flowing Ganga nearby, I felt completely immersed in nature. It felt like being part of something much bigger — a reminder of why this path matters. Truly a place where you can root, breathe, and return to yourself.
The staff were wonderful — always kind, friendly, and ready to help, creating a warm and welcoming environment throughout the stay.
If you are looking for a place that will both support and challenge you, while holding you in a deeply authentic yogic environment, Gurukul Yogashala is a beautiful choice.

A fantastic place in the middle of the forest. High standards of the ashram, delicious food. Incredibly friendly staff, and most importantly, wonderful teaching staff. Professional, respectful, and attentive to each student. I highly recommend it. I spent three unforgettable weeks there.

Our batch was lucky, we had an extremely wise yoga philosophy teacher Pandei ji. The meditation teacher Ajay ji opened for me new horizons. Ashtanga teacher Navin ji is very attentive and careful, he is great and professional. The space itself is serene and beautifully designed, creating the perfect environment for self-reflection and growth.

We had tasty and saturating food twice a day. For me it was enough. I have got life changing knowledges and skills from this school. About dormitory, it was ordinary one, don’t expect 5 star conditions. I am going to come back in spring to this school again. Thank you Gurukul yoga school.

I was looking for a deeper practice of yoga and to be guided by kind and professional teachers. That was the case and I am grateful for that place and people. Sometimes the organisation was complex but they always tried their best to respond to our needs. This was definitely a very good experience for me and I feel more grown up. The 200h is complete but in my point of view, I don’t expect to teach straight after this, I think you will need more practice and probably to choose your favorite yoga style and go deeper in that direction.

The teachers were full of knowledge and wisdom, and truly the experience was life changing. Facilities are basic, but this feels like part of the authentic yogic discipline. I would bring your own sheet for the bed though as the fleece blankets were hot.

Hello, this review is a bit long but I want to put everything sincerely so that people who are looking to take a course to become yoga teachers can make a conscious and responsible decision. I hope this feedback is not hidden like all the others that never came out or will come out because they don't publish them. I booked my trip to Rishikesh at Gurukul in mid-June. The communication from the administration was excellent; there was never any problem. I requested a private room with air conditioning, which added $200 more to the cost. It seemed a bit expensive, but I accepted. When I arrived at the school, I found that the rooms with air conditioning were not within the school premises (which I was never informed about when I reserved my spot). They took me to two places which I did not like, first because I did not know the area and second because of the hygiene. When I returned to the school, they told me they could give me a cooler for an extra $100, which I accepted because I was exhausted from running around after three days of travel and just wanted to shower and sleep. When they showed me the room, it was disgusting, full of dust, the bathroom super dirty, and the sheets horrible too. I literally had to walk to the town to buy detergent, bleach, Lysol, and other things to clean the room myself. The sheets and pillows were filthy i had to buy new sheets and pillow cover myself. I let it go because I didn't want conflicts and aimed to clean the room myself during my stay. we spend 4 days without electricity and the school generator give out (which is not the school management fault) so i decided to return the cooler and after a couple of days they refund me the 100 dollars.
Food is decent, not the best i never ate inside the school premises because im a picky eater but is not what they advertised they don't have variety. They treat local students (students that comes from India) vs Western students totally different i can testify that is in discriminatory way and I have proof of that, they charged westerners 4 times more than local and when you complaint about it management just says they pay more taxes for foreigners.
Please please do your own research before going to a yoga school in Rishikesh this one doesn't have any negative reviews which now i understand why, they hide everything and silence the people that have a negative experience.

I complaint about cleanliness in the common areas because they had trashcans full and they told me that "im probably not used to the Indian culture" I will be posting the pictures here.

Good thing about school that I cant deny is the education, I had the opportunity to learn from exceptional teachers, and mentors they hired fine and knowledgable people to teach and I would be lying if I say other wise. So you can take classes if you want as a walk in but I highly recommend to stay elsewhere for sleep although in India Hygene in general is really questionable specially rural.

At the end of the 200 hours i decided to leave the premises to another hotel and they didn't even help with my luggage .

please please DYOR before leaving for a month and be very self conscious of what you will be getting yourself into and for how long.

******update****** the school is saying that i'm targeting them because i did not abide by the rules of the ashram, which is totally untrue. after check-in, chenna was the one who gave me the room keys, and there were two keys instead of one. i was late one night by 30 minutes because i was with my classmates enjoying the ganga arti. so, here is the proof that the ones harassing me are the school, sending our philosophy teacher to ask me to remove the review and threatening to cancel my certification. mind you, i'm not a child; tired of playing games, especially in a place that i paid to be and where i should be treated decently. I ALREADY SUBMITTED A REPORT WITH YOGA ALLIANCE AND WILL TAKE THIS TO THE LAST CONSEQUENCES IF I NEED TO SPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY KNOW IM TELLING THE TRUTH.

Super teachers. A true eye opener. Yes the third eye. Coming from Nordic countries in Europe I suggest not traveling during May and the hottest months. Food was nutritious and healthy. If you are looking for an accommodation that has AC do your research. A very teaching experience. It changed my life.

Gurukul Yogashala is a peaceful oasis where one can learn about many different forms of yoga, as well as meditation, anatomy, Ayurveda, and much more.

The classes are taught by extremely knowledgeable and passionate teachers who are kind, patient and encouraging. Specifically Naveen Ji and Upendra Ji, who were both fundamental to my time at Yogashala, whom I was inspired by and learnt a lot from.

The retreat is well organized and the staff are extremely responsive if you have any issues. Especially Cheena who is incredibly helpful, responsive and accommodating for any questions or problems.

The food, served twice a day, is mildly spiced and light Indian cuisine. It was always a tasty and healthy meal.

The accommodation was basic, and at times (due to the Indian summer) hot. But clean and with fantastic views onto the mountains.

Overall the retreat taught me a huge amount about yoga from a holistic perspective, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and found it to be highly transformative.

They are good in alignment. If one demonstrates to them about his potential, then they help you to improve. One needs to take out at least a few months/years to come and stay if one really wants to adapt yogic lifestyle.

I have completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training. It was very frandy here. The theacher are very nice. I learned a lot from the teachers. It was very intersting and i am able to practice more.

Food is always so good. Always different everytime.

We have many sessions outside. Teaching was very good. All together was very nice.
