gname is a nightmare
gname is a nightmare! I saw that my own name is registered as a dot com through gname and to make matters worse, it's pointing to an Asian porn site!
Their entire system is confusing, their support team is nice, but it can get confusing trying to resolve an issue, or to understand their way of doing things.
They told me that the "buyer" wants $4500 for the URL with my name in it. I offered them $300, which is being generous. Then, crickets. NOBODY is going to pay them $4500 for that domain, and I resent the fact that they are using my name for the little bit of SEO they can get out of it AND I completely believe that gname is the "buyer" that is trying to shake me down for $4500 (plus 8% transaction fees.
Porn sites are illegal in most Asian countries so I am surprised that gname would be a party to this. Also, it is my name! I own it, so in my eyes, it's an infringement on my brand and my likeness.
They must stay in business by being a part of this fraudulent activity. I'm contacting Google and hope that they can shut down their site.
I have back and forth with them for almost a month trying to purchase this URL. I didn't hear anything for a week, then suddenly tonight I get an email that says "The trade failure, reason: The buyer abandons purchase". No warning, no email from them asking me for my credit card, or even saying the buyer had accepted my offer. Then I had to go through support, move the puzzle piece on their site, slide the slider, confirm, confirm again, add a whatsapp number, or skype, etc, etc, and place a new order. It's insanity over there at gname.com and this business practice harms people and is pretty disgusting.
UPDATE April 29, 2024: I was contacted by someone in the domain broker's department. They said "If you want to file a domain name complaint, it is recommended that you contact online customer service for a detailed answer".
I contacted their online customer support right away and they said "Dear, GNAME does not provide hosting services for complaints about domain names and their content. According to Singaporean laws, such complaints can be submitted to the Internet Service Providers (ISP). So, I asked for the ISP and was told "Apologise (sic), to protect our user privacy and security, we do no have limit on right to do so, sorry for not getting you the specific information you need" and they sent a heart emoji. So, I repeated that I was sent to the support team to file a complaint by the broker and the support agent wrote" "The current domain owner is managed under a user on Gname. If you want to purchase this domain , you can apply for the broker service here". This is word for word, typos and all, the responses I have received. More than once in the "conversation" I was sent the same responses again. They are NOT helpful and anyone and everyone that is considering doing any business with GNAME should run!
The reply below was very nice, at least I felt heard, but it did not address the issues and they need to have a look at each department and how they are responding to people. For instance: (From their response below) 4. Fraudulent Activity:
"Gname does not condone or engage in fraudulent activities. We uphold ethical standards and comply with legal regulations. Any allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated." If this is true, why is this issued being ignored by your team who is just sending me copy and paste replies? Nothing is being investigated if I'm only getting the same replies, NOBODY will give me the ISP to file a complaint, since GNAME wants to protect their customer. NOBODY is sending me emails saying it is being investigated. NOTHING is happening and the response below means nothing. It is also copy and paste.
Obviously, I'm not the only one that has had a horrific experience with GNAME.com

GNAME IS THE WORST SCAM DOMAIN REGISTRANT
Gname is one of the worst domain registrars out there when it comes to scams and fraudulent websites. Their support ticket system is also a joke. They will drag your case out in time, and it's almost as if they are part of the scammers' network in terms of how they act. Gname do not take any responsibility as they are only registrant of the domains, not the webhoste. I have reported them to google. Probably easier to take down their website than reporting all the fraud domains they accept each day...

And, in less than 24 hours, the domain was suspended by GNAME.

As most of the reviews noted below, this domain name registrar is where lots of scammers go to register their fake websites. These fraudulent websites try to scam people out of their money. Gname.com keeps saying in their responses below that they take these scams seriously, that they will take immediate action, and yet the scam websites are not taken down over a month later.
To anyone who is not sure if a website is a scam or not, go to Whois, type in the domain name of the website, and if the registrar is from gname.com, then the website probably is a scam.

gname appears to support fraud…
gname appears to support fraud websites! There is a website that is registered with gname. The abuse form on gname is not working, and we are unable to report the fake website to them! The form appears to go around in circles.. a clear way to discourage people from sending in complaints.
Then when I look at online forums such as reddit, we can see that gname has many such websites hosted on it.
Some customers are reporting losing 1000's of dollars by falling prey to fake job scams on websites hosted on this registrar.

We cannot use your abuse page- since it is not working. The fake website in question is tourhq.cc
Please take it down immediately.

Like other reviews, this registrar supplies domain names to scammers creating fraudulent websites. The website in question has illegally copied our content, or logo, our imagery in order to scam people.
Report them to the registrar where the domain was registered is useless. Hopefully they will act here! This registrar hosts scammers and has 0% service to combat scammers - STAY AWAY.

A customer of ours sent us a link to a fraudulent website copying our content and trying to scam people. We immediately took action to combat this site. One of the things we did was to try to report them to the registrar where the domain was registered. Just like practically any review below, we ran into a wall trying to get the scam website offline. When trying to contact them, all I kept getting was automated answers that were absolutely not helpful at all. Seeing as this registrar hosts scammers and has 0% service to combat scammers, this website should be regarded as scam as well.

I recently had a harrowing experience with Gname.com, a domain registrar that has proven to be a breeding ground for scammers and unethical practices. My encounter with this registrar was both frustrating and disappointing, revealing a blatant disregard for ethical standards and customer security.
The incident began when my domain was taken over twice by a scammer who's also a Gname.com user. Despite reporting the incident multiple times, Gname.com failed to take any meaningful actions to address the issue promptly.
What is even more alarming is that Gname.com seems to be profiting from these illicit activities. Rather than prioritizing the security of their users, they exhibited a disturbing willingness to exploit the situation for financial gain. In a shocking turn of events, Gname.com requested exorbitant brokerage fees to facilitate the return of my domain.
This demand for high brokerage fees is a clear indication that Gname.com is more interested in profiting from the misfortunes of their users than in upholding the integrity of their platform. it's also a clear sign that it's Gname.com itself who took over the domain especially that the domain was never released to market after expiry. This unethical behavior not only raises questions about Gname.com's commitment to user safety but also highlights a concerning lack of responsibility in managing their domain registration services.
The lack of swift and decisive action, coupled with the attempt to charge significant fees for resolving an issue they should have prevented, underscores Gname.com's complicity in fostering an environment that allows scammers to thrive.
I strongly advise anyone considering domain registration services to steer clear of Gname.com. The risks associated with their measures and apparent profiteering from scam-related incidents are far too high. There are reputable registrars available that prioritize user security and ethical business practices, and I encourage users to explore alternatives to avoid falling victim to the unscrupulous practices of Gname.com.
