Having worn contact lenses for over 35 years and with continuous mask wearing due to my driving job giving me dry eyes I’d decided to look into other options.My optician had previously advised me that if I was to see someone that I should visit James Ball.
I spoke to James and he recommended due to fact my prescription was very high laser treatment wasn’t an option and lens replacement surgery could incur a high risk of retinal detachment. So he suggested collamer lenses or implantable contact lenses.
My first lens was implanted and because the outcome was so successful James was happy to fit the second one 48 hours later. The result is a big improvement in both eyes a lot better than I’d expected.
From start to finish James and his staff have been outstanding with service second to none I’ve already recommended them to others and funnily enough saw one of those people at the clinic during my check up yesterday.

For me, like many others who have left reviews, James and his team have been amazing, I had wanted to have lens replacement for a long time but kept putting it off, I wish I had done it years ago, I was made to feel at ease at all times and at no time was I pressured into having any treatment at all, the aftercare is also brilliant. I do not normally leave reviews but felt it was well deserved . Thanks to all of you at the clinic, I am very grateful for what you have done for me and I would recommend any one who is putting it off to make the call and get back to living without looking for your glasses every five minutes!

Friendly, professional team made the whole experience very comfortable. All went well and now got the best pair of eyes in town.

I had cataract operation on both my eyes last September and my experience with the clinic from first appointment with Mr Ball to my last appointment with Mr Jutla was excellent. All the staff at the clinic were very helpful. It was very easy to contact Mr Ball or the staff when you had questions after the operation and they responded very quickly.

The service I received from James and his team was outstanding.
After my eye examination and consultation the choice was easy.
I had been to other clinics looking at lenses replacement but they were all insistent that both eyes would be done at the same time which rang alarm bells for me.
James reassured me the best and only why was to replace the lens in my dominate eye 1st and the following week do the 2nd eye as this avoids any infections.
Since the 1st operation I have not worn glasses at all and can read some very small print something I struggled with even with glasses.

Recently had replacement lens surgery in both eyes and what a difference it's made! Distance vision is better than it's ever been and I no longer need reading glasses for close work. I highly recommend Custom Vision Clinic. I had been extremely short sighted with astigmatism, and after a consultation with James Ball opted for refractive lens exchange. The clarity of my distance vision without glasses now is amazing. I can read comfortably, and only need reading glasses for long stretches of computer work. Both Mr Ball and the optometrist Mr Jutla were very good at explaining the process beforehand and the results, and answering any questions I had.

My surgery for the removal of Cataracts in both eyes was performed by James Ball almost 10 years ago at the Yorkshire Eye Hospital.
Recently I was experiencing blurred vision in my right eye and was referred by my Optician to see James again.
I had been told previously that thickening of the membrane behind the lens implant could occur. Indeed this is what happened.
After a very thorough eye examination in both eyes it was recommended that I should have laser treatment on my right eye.
This procedure was performed promptly, efficiently with great skill and care by the whole Team at the Custom Vision Clinic.
My vision was restored within a few hours after the dilated pupils had returned to normal.
I can highly recommend this treatment at the Custom Vision Clinic.

I unfortunately developed at diabetic related cataract in my left eye within a very short period.
I went from very good eyesight to being unable to read almost anything within three months.

Naturally this was very frighting and an urgent visit to my regular optician conformed the presence of a cataract and offered to get me started on the NHS treatment program, although as he said post Covid this may take some time to proceed.

Looking online, Custom Vision Clinic has outstanding reviews, and although very apprehensive I contacted them through their website and was called back the next day.
An appointment within a week, lead to a meeting with Jack Gormley, who explained in detail the problem, the options, and the remedy. He answered all my questions and took time to explain the many points I was unsure about.
I made an appointment for the procedure to suit my family, (although the following week was available), and on the day, despite much trepidation, the procedure was very quick, completely painless, and gave me a most amazing ‘light show’ as my lens was replaced.

Despite a minor setback, which was entirely my own eye’s reaction to the procedure, within a week my eyesight was 20/20, no need for glasses for driving or TV etc and it made me realise just how much I had been missing in detail in every aspect of my vision.

I am delighted with the service given and the speed and efficiency of the entire procedure.

Now, three months late, very pleased and would like to thank everyone at CVC for their service and care, and especially Jack Gormley, who’s online CV could not be more glowing! Lol.

I had ReLEx SMILE performed in January and I cannot recommend James enough. He was recommended to me by another Ophthalmic Surgeon whom had worked with James previously and spoke very highly of him.

From the initial consultation up to my latest check up I've felt very reassured during the whole process, especially on the day of my surgery when I was very nervous. Everything went very smoothly and I could read the bottom line of the chart the day after my surgery.

I recently had Smile Surgery with Mr. Ball. The team at custom vision clinic made me feel extremely comfortable during the procedure and both the results and aftercare have been exceptional.

Emerging from lockdown, in late March 2021, I was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. Having decided on private treatment, I began researching my options. An internet search returned an article, in the Daily Mail, listing James Ball as one of the best cataract eye surgeons in the UK. I reached out to his private practice, Custom Vision Clinic, in April, using the website enquiry form. I received a call from Angela (Clinic Co-ordinator) the next working day who arranged a consultation appointment, outside of my work schedule, which was really appreciated.

The Covid safety measures at Custom Vision Clinic were excellent and the friendly welcome put me at ease; clearly, I need not have worried. Diane conducted a thorough scan of my eyes gathering a range of images and data which would inform James during the consultation. This was a very pleasant start to my journey, and I began to feel excited. James and I discussed my eye history, lifestyle, interests, and ambitions. At the ‘tender’ age of 54 my aim was to achieve the best sight possible, even if that meant the use of glasses for close work. James put a plan together that would meet my needs and reach beyond me expectations. He chose Vivity intraocular, extended depth of focus, lenses for my bilateral cataract extraction, which would occur a week apart. During the consultation I knew I had made the right choice in choosing CVC and in placing my vision in the hands of James, whose skill and passion for eye surgery is compelling.

Filled with confidence, and eagerly looking forward to the first operation, I attended the clinic on May 4th (May the 4th be with you) for what would be one of my life’s most memorable, positive, experiences. James spent time confirming the care plan that we had agreed, running through the procedure, and making sure I was at ease. The operation itself was phenomenal, I enjoyed every second of it, all 480 of them! and no pain or discomfort. The clinical care was impeccable; I was made to feel like there was no-one more important than me. The 2nd cataract operation, a week later, was just as memorable, beginning with a thorough examination by James before undertaking the second procedure. I was thrilled to describe the incredible difference in my right eye after just 7 days. The 2nd procedure was as marvellous as the first 😊 The level of care genuinely made me feel like a family member, rather than a patient.

Further post op checks were conducted by Gurpal, Optometrist at CVC. Gurpal provided an excellent level of aftercare in those follow-up examinations. A professional throughout, Gurpal fully examined my eyes and discussed my progress with me. It was like seeing a friend, such was his approachable manner. I now enjoy very good unaided distance, intermediate and near vision without the need for glasses!

During that initial consultation, back in March, James told me we would make a great team…. and we certainly did! I am delighted with my “magic eyes” and cannot thank James enough for his skill and the whole team for their exceptional care. I have a new lease of life and can pursue my passions once more.

I have no hesitation or reservations in recommending James and the Custom Vision Clinic team. In fact, if I had another pair of eyes I would gladly do it all again!

Following a multifocal lens replacement 10 years ago by James Ball I was in need of cataract surgery on my left eye.
Having been thoroughly scanned at my first appointment I was advised that laser surgery (29 yrs ago) had resulted in a decentred cornea meaning a multifocal lens was not an option.
Whilst disappointed James explained what he could do to ensure a good outcome complementing my right eye. A monofocal toric lens was duly implanted and the resulting vision is amazing.
In addition the aftercare, involving a number of follow up appointments, is particularly thorough with any issues (in my case dry eyes) being explored and solutions (forgive the pun) being provided.
I must have had an inkling there might be an issue with my left eye and returning to James was the obvious choice to ensure best possible treatment.
