Cataract operations

With severe astigmatisms in both eyes and having worn contact lenses or spectacles for over 60 years, I wanted my cataract operations to solve both these different aspects as far as possible.
After extensive research and being inclined to ask lots of questions I realised that some cataract specialists have their 'favourite' solutions which were not necessarily the best for me.

The Custom Vision Clinic advertised itself as offering the kind of cataract replacement lenses which seemed best to/for me, so I visited them. They also appeared to have a good reputation.

From the beginning, James Ball was fantastic in going into the technicalities to answer all my questions. This was followed similarly by the optometrist, Gurpal Jutla.
The support and nursing staff were pleasant, helpful and professional.

I was completely satisfied with the solution offered, the operations went well and now, at last, I am spectacle-free most of the time. (Some close-up assistance needed in poor light.)
I felt that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure safety and success.
They are also very conscious of the implications and treatment of dry eyes.

It is extremely helpful having the operations only a week apart if you are seriously short-sighted.

The surroundings at Bowcliffe Hall are also beautiful and calming. The only drawback is, if you have no-one to take you there, then you have to be quite organised to reach it.

I would have no hesitation in recommending James Ball and his associates at the Custom Vision Clinic – as long as you have the money! :-)

I cannot thank mr ball and the whole team enough for such an amazing experience at custom vision clinic. After having a bad experience elsewhere, they were so amazing and thorough due to some additional issues I had with my eyes. I had the smile procedure performed by mr ball and it was a great experience. Although strange, it was pain free (including after surgery), quick and with a supportive team around me. The aftercare has been amazing and you are given everything you need after surgery. One day after surgery I had 20/20 vision which is continuing to improve and was back at work straight away. All I can say is, I wish I found the custom vision clinic sooner. Thank you all so much you really are all miracle workers and have changed my life! To anyone considering laser eye surgery, this is the place to go!

Excellent professional service from start to finish. The initial consultation with Mr Jack Gormley and the team was relaxed but very thorough and informative and I opted for lens replacement surgery on both eyes. The surgery went smoothly and on both occasions I was put at ease by Mr Gormley and the caring staff.
Although the outcome was successful I still required some further laser treatment to achieve the best possible outcome which was carried out without question and at no extra cost.
All in all Mr Gormley and his team give an excellent, friendly, personalised and very professional service which I highly recommend.

Absolutely perfect experience from start to finish. I would highly recommend Custom Vision Clinic. I went to Mr James Ball for SMILE laser eye surgery and throughout the whole procedure he guides you through and reassured you that everything is going well which was a massive help because it is all so unknown!. The team who helped me before and after were all so lovely and supportive. The day after surgery I’ve got 20:20 vision and feel just like normal. Could not recommend enough, I’m so happy I decided to go with them and so happy I went through the process. Thank you a million times over.

Can’t recommend CustomVision Clinic highly enough. I had been wearing contacts and glasses for years and had thought about getting lens replacement but because I am claustrophobic I couldn’t do it. I developed cataracts in both eyes and my quality of life was getting poor to the extent that I thought I would have to give up working. Went to see Mr Jack Gormley and he was amazing explaining what was going to happen and made sure that I was very comfortable. The whole team are so friendly.

I had cataract surgery in February.I was extremely anxious about this as the surgery could have been complicated by a previous eye condition.I couldn’t have chosen a better option than Custom Vision. The service I received was prompt, professional and reassuring. James Ball particularly made me feel so much more confident and able to trust in his expertise. The surgery went extremely well and the resulting vision I have is absolutely fantastic . I can’t thank James and the whole team at Custom Vision enough.

Last week I had my 1 year review. For this I had various scans prior to seeing Mr Ball. He was very happy with the condition and vision of my eyes and am now signed off. As always the staff was very polite and I wasn't waiting long to be seen. It was very nice of Mr Ball to say that i am welcome to come back anytime in the future if I ever have any concerns.
I'm very happy I chose to come here for my surgery especially as it was over an hours travel for me.
Anyone looking to have laser surgery should go for a consultation, I thought I wouldn't be eligible but luckily Mr Ball was able to doing a great job considering my high prescription and astigmatism. Deserves a 5/5 from service pf the surgery to professionalism of all the staff throughout all my visits.

I recently had my vision upgraded at custom vision, after years of having to wear varifocal glasses to be able to see and meet legal driving standards. I found the service I received flawless from start to finish. Everyone was professional, courteous and kind. The place is spotlessly clean and all modern technology used to achieve the best possible results for their customers. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending custom vision to anyone at all and the after care is amazing and the door is always left open should you have any worries or concerns.

Amazing service and experience from the start. The consultations, surgery and after care was faultless. I have had the best experience I could’ve wished for and my vision is now better than ever. I had laser eye surgery and it has changed my life which I know sounds cliche but it is true! I looked at other bigger brands for this treatment but trust me custom vision clinic was definitely the right choice.

If you are at all apprehensive about having laser treatment with Dr James Ball at the Custom Vision Clinic Bramham, Leeds rest assured I felt exactly the same. I even reasoned with myself that I could always opt out of treatment after having the first eye done.I need not have had any concerns the treatment and follow up was first rate , gold standard, great.The outcome was amazing , I have 20/20 vision and can read without glasses and do all those intricate things with a needle and I experience first class vision.
I recommended James to a friend who had ,had a cataract removed by another and she was also amazed and appreciative that her sight had been corrected after a bad experience of having a cataract removal else where.
I have a condition called dry eye and the follow up treatment and care has also been first rate there is only word for the team thats sums them up collectively and that is A1 professionals.
The only slightly embarrassing moment for me is when I went shopping to John Lewis following laser surgery, whilst at the beauty counter the assistant asked me if I was aware that I had a letter L above my L eye, I opted to wipe this off and forgot to do so.

Having only one eye I was apprehensive about having cataract surgery, this proved to be an unfounded worry. Mr James Ball and his team could not have treated me any better. I had lens replacement surgery due to cataracts. James and the team are wonderful. The operation went very well and my eyesight is now perfect. The aftercare is second to none too.

My experience at custom vision clinic is a very positive one. Very professional and informative. My pre op consultation was very good, lots of reassurance and good explanation . Unfortunately this has been done during the pandemic so I had to go to appointments alone but the experience was still a good one. The operation days ( a week apart ) went smoothly with reassurance always there. After care was amazing too. All the staff were great and very friendly. The clinic is a lovely environment. Lovely grounds and plenty of free parking. I can’t speak to highly of them. It’s been a life changer for me. 6 months from my optician diagnosed early cataracts to glasses free vision . I have just received my second cataract (both eyes) procedure with James Ball and his team and can say that I have had the most superb service. They are both professional and friendly with explanations all the time to put you at ease. My wife and myself have received treatment with this clinic and we cannot express our satisfaction enough. After requiring glasses for the last 30 years my delight is now only needing them for certain limited situations. It has been a life enhancing procedure to enjoy such improved vision.
I would say that I covet the chair in the recovery room - it really is so relaxing.
