Friendly and professional service with good quality vehicles. Couldn’t fault Gavin and Chris who even insured the new car so that I could drive it home. Lots of stock to choose from and established local company. Great experience all round!

Was after a Mini Countryman. For the mileage and age I wanted, everywhere i looked i was about 3000 short. Until I came across one on Car gurus that was from Chequers. Was honestly about 2000 or 3000 cheaper then anywhere else. I have had the car over a week now and so far so good. I really love it. And Chequers were very patient and helpful when i didnt know what I was doing with the car. My one small gripe is that all the reviews said they received a goody box with there car. Or a full tank of petrol. I didnt receive either. And considering i had travelled a long way on a stormy day to view the car, a personal touch like that would have been lovely. But I did get a nice cuppa from them and what I saved on getting my car from them and not elswhere makes up for no goody box. Lool.

It’s November 2024. Good customer service is a rare experience in the UK and modern cars are now all pretty much the same; huge clones adorned with LEDs and warning lights which make driving on the M3 pretty similar to playing a bizarre video game in which motorists now put their lives in the hands of artificial intelligence although any consequences remain very real. The colour and the badge are the only choices facing car buyers these days and the golden days of driving are now just monotonous hours of average speed camera tedium and an endless peloton of characterless cars and mannerless motorists.
I was after a used car with character after my beloved Mazda MX5 mk3 had to be written off after being hit whilst stationary by a Mercedes doing 60mph. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. I felt bereft. I thought I’d never find another great car until, there it was, on the AA Used Car site after days of scrolling; a beautiful blue BMW convertible at Chequers Cars in somewhere called Chobham, only 189 miles from my home city of Plymouth.
I rang the garage and spoke to James who was very friendly and he told me all about the car. There was no pressure from him but rather the infectious enthusiasm of someone who knows their stuff and who genuinely wanted to help. He even suggested that, if I caught the train to Woking from Plymouth he would pick me up from the station!
Today, I made that journey and it was my pleasure to finally meet James who is a credit to the company. We had already done the deal on the ‘phone after a few conversations. I knew I was dealing with a trustworthy company, not just from these reviews but James’ attention to detail and his lack of BS. The car was spotless and we chatted whilst he made me a coffee. He knew I had a long drive back to Plymouth so he’d kindly filled the car up to get me home. It was the best drive home ever. I love it.
This garage is a family business that knows its business. Great cars, friendly personal service and people who appreciate and value the relationship between a driver and their car.
I would highly recommend Chequers to anyone who appreciates being looked after and valued as a customer. Check out their stock on their website and give them a call and make sure you ask for James. It’s worth making the journey for a company who go the extra mile for you.
