A PEARS appointment yesterday reassured me that there is nothing seriously wrong with my eyes other than natural ageing. The optician/optometrist Amar at the Fargate Sheffield branch was kind and helpful. I was able to book an appointment within 24 hours of noticing symptoms rather than waiting for a GP appointment. The scheme is NHS-funded but saves the NHS money and should be better known.

I booked what was advertised on the Boots Opticians website as a free contact lens assessment and trial at the Hounslow store using my valid glasses prescription.
I travelled to the branch, waited to be seen and was suddenly told by the optometrist that I would have to pay £50 simply because I’d worn contact lenses in the past. This exclusion was never made clear when I booked. A page on the Boots website specifically states that the free trial is for people where “it’s been a while since you last wore contacts” – exactly my situation.
Very disappointing experience, a complete waste of my time and misleading customer information. I had intended to become a regular customer, but after this experience I will be taking my business elsewhere.
EDIT - Boots have responded below, asking me to email them. I have emailed them and received no response.

I visited Boots in Falkirk 4th July - I had concerns about my eyes and having recently had laser treatment I required advice. I phoned and due to my concerns they fitted me in quickly. I first met Sarah at earlier appointments. She is a lovely girl, very attentive and caring and she recognised me immediately. She triaged me and passed the details to the optician Saiga. Saiga was excellent, very thorough documented everything on the computer system and I was concerned I was taking up her time. She reassured me it was important to ensure all accurate information on their system. I was referred back to Sarah who carried out some further tests and Saiga and I discussed the results. She compiled a letter for my doctor and she also issued me with a grid and gave me instructions on how to use it -as I have dry eyes'
I was then passed to Sarah who carried out measurements etc for my glasses, collected my payment and arranged an appointment to come back for my glasses. I also purchased years insurance to cover any damage that may happen over that year.
Saiga came out to say goodbye. All of the staff are welcoming, friendly a lovely calm atmosphere in the store and I was confident that everything was done to help me feel reassured. Thank you Saiga and Sarah I would not go anywhere else for optical care.

I visited the Romsey store this morning to purchase glasses after having my eyes tested in October with Aida and then helped by Paige and Charlie today in choosing and measuring for my glasses and sunglasses. They are all so very helpful, friendly, making me feel very at ease. All the staff in this store are always very pleasant. thank you everyone

I have used Boots Opticians in Buchanan Galleries Glasgow for a number of years now and I have found the service from the eye test through to picking and then fitting glasses to be excellent.
The staff there are first class and cannot do enough to help. I did have a slight issue with my new glasses but the team leader O’Sheen was brilliant and soon fixed the issue. She was excellent not just with me as I watched her with a mum and her wee boy getting his first pair of glasses and her manner was really spot on and I’m sure that parent was appreciative.
All in all, great service delivery.

Well after waiting over 3 weeks for new safty glasses well the eye appointment was the 3rd of june . I thought I would call kendal opticians where I had my eye test ,Great service of the eye test and customer service perfect. After not hearing anything thought i would give them a call. No ANSWER NOW after 8 times of calling to ask if glasses are in . I dont want to drive as its 40 mins each way for me if they are not in . So i will try to call another 8 or 10 times see if I get an answer . Not good really . Hope I get an answer. As need the safty glasses for work . Next week when I am.back to work. Not great service at all after the first appointment 😕

it took over an hour and a half most of which was in the purchasing, When I finally established the correct, though outrageous, price they were then unable to process the loyalty card. I had to go to a different department to get my points. If I hadn't been so much in need of new glasses I would have walked out. I must add that none of my grievance is directed at the staff all of whom I thought were exemplary, professional, courteous and very apologetic for computer systems that did not function properly.

Have been using this opticians service for over ten years (previously Princes Street) and, without fail, they are superb! All staff - reception, optical assistants, dispensers and opticians warrant praise and thanks. Went in to pick up new specs today following test 2 weeks ago. Mentioned that I had been having some pain over the last week - all jumped into action resulting in Charlotte removing a garden thorn from my cornea!!! Gentle, confident, totally professional. Following which she prescribed a range of medication to militate against infection and to aid recovery. The shop exudes professionalism, warmth, attention to detail and kindness - does not get much better than this. Thank you all so much - again - for your excellent service. Marianne & James

Facing up to eye surgery and requiring a Vitrectomy operation my surgeon suggested wearing dark distance glasses would be helpful.
So, off to Boots Lancaster where I am a regular customer ,with prescription I went on 9 May.
The deal and contract was Boots to supply one pair specs WITH DELIVERY 11 DAYS HENCE .
I paid upfront.
11 days passed no specs ( contract broken?
Thereafter
1) No less than 7 phone calls to Boots and failed promises.
2) Losing patience email to Customer Service address on web site . Email back this is for Chemist only . My email can you please forward to correct department please. Email back No.
3) Found correct email address after one week.
No acknowledgement .No solution . No spcs.
4) Losing more patience email to Anthony Hemmerdinger CEO . No response.
Copies to Boots advising if no responses will report to OPTICAL CONSUMER COMPLAINTS SERVICE
5) June 24 told my concerns forwarded to Senior Leadership Team “ ..they will contact you directly …allow 3 working days.
6) Today 3 July .7 working days hence. No contact.
Clearly the Senior Leadership Team appear to be as incompetent on Customer Service Issues
as the dedicated team that bears this name.
I now have the specs over 6 weeks beyond agreed contractual delivery date .
I have in the meantime suffered stress, distress and general botheration due to Boots failures and I was unable to totally follow my surgeons advice
Contact from Boots with explanations for their non existent customer service would be rather nice and perhaps some ideas on how they view their breach of contract.

I was seen by Ella, who was friendly and welcoming, and conducted the initial tests + Q & A, and assisted with selecting new glasses following my extensive eye examination by the Optometrist Aamina. During the eye test itself, Aamina was very professional, courteous and informative. Both myself and my wife were very impressed by her competency and warm friendly personality, putting us both at ease and answering any queries we had regarding the results. We have always found the staff at the Southport branch of Boots Opticians to be very helpful.

Staff pleasant and helpful BUT store facilities very poor - again! I use walking aids (crutches and rollator) Lift not working so I had to use elevator - unsafe,,, no toilet so advised to walk to M&S (approx .2 miles) and then return to Boots…..really??? I will not be using Boots again since this was the same re toilets a year ago. I understand that staff facilities are equally poor. Clearly, care for people is low on the list for the ‘new’ owners of Boots since the situation has not improved over the last year.
A very disappointed loyal customer of the Boots brand.
The response was polite BUT unhelpful. Failure to comply with the DDA, including provision a toilet not really noted. How sad that a previously trusted UK owned company has been taken over by a private equity firm from a US giant which has overseen a decline in value of the business (as detailed by the BBC but link not allowed!). My experience might help to explain this sad state of affairs.

My 6-year-old daughter received an NHS prescription from the hospital, so we visited the Warrington Town branch to choose her glasses. The measurements needed to manufacture her prescription lenses were taken and then checked and confirmed by a second member of staff, so I left feeling confident everything had been done correctly.
When we returned to collect the glasses, John carried out a final check and immediately spotted that the lens measurements were significantly incorrect. He explained that because my daughter moves her eyes around a lot, the original measurements were significantly incorrect and the prescription lenses had to be remade.
John was incredibly thorough and professional, and I’m so grateful he took the time to carry out those final checks. Had he not done so, my daughter could have left wearing glasses with incorrectly manufactured prescription lenses. As a parent of a six-year-old whose eyesight is still developing, that’s a very worrying thought.
What concerns me most is that these measurements had already been checked and confirmed by two members of staff. I completely understand that measuring a young child isn’t always straightforward, but that’s exactly why extra care should be taken. If one person had made an error and it had been picked up during the second check, I would have viewed the situation very differently. Instead, it took a third member of staff to identify the mistake.
Unfortunately, this meant a wasted journey, parking costs, leaving empty-handed and then having to make another journey to collect the corrected glasses. What should have been a straightforward process ended up taking almost a month.
I have since raised a formal complaint with Boots because I did not feel the seriousness of the situation was fully acknowledged in store. I was advised that my complaint had been been escalated and that I would receive a response from the Senior Leadership Team within three working days. That timeframe has now passed and I am still waiting to hear from them.
We’ve now collected the corrected glasses and everything seems to be fine. Thank you again to John, he is a credit to the Warrington Town branch.
