My tutor and the support team are extremely supportive, attentive, and helpful. I would recommend The BAPH to anyone looking to gain education and knowledge on photography before stepping into the industry.

I have enjoyed my time so far studying an HND (classroom-based) with BAPH. I'm glad I enrolled on the course and it's been a great way to dedicate more time to photography. The administrative support has been outstanding, the student services team (for example Luana and Marie) always reply quickly and I have found them to be very helpful. A downside of the course is perhaps that the use of facilities is limited and the assignments are quite demanding. By this, I mean that you are expected to have or buy equipment for home to complete the assignments and they do take a long time. However, you earn a qualification and I've also found the research side of the assignments really enjoyable.

Studying with BAPH far exceeded my expectations. My tutors support was outstanding . Also all the Admin / support staff went above and beyond. Would highly recommend anyone studying with BAPH.

Did HNC. Course is geared towards career in photography more so than I expected. Takes a lot a time to carry out assignments and can be hard to understand exactly what is required. I did online version but they brought in online tutorials for each assignment which helped. For some of the assignments I did wonder how I was going to do them on my own but managed.
Now I have finished I do miss it. But I put in a lot of effort to complete it in under a year.

I was looking for a Photography course to take after my Photography A-Levels and found this course when I was researching online. I'm really glad I chose it because it was just what I needed. It had a mixture of assignments and practical learning and I enjoyed perfecting my Photography skills and knowledge throughout the course. The part I enjoyed the most were the practical lessons with our tutors at the university in London. The one on one classes were helpful, Photography is definitely learnt better in person. (I even wish there were more practical classes in this course.) I also got to meet people with the same passion and still talk to them now even though the course has finished.
Lastly, my tutor Daniel was amazing. He understood my take on things and my ability. He always gave me constructive feedback and his passion for Photography was always portrayed through his teaching.
I would recommend this course to anyone, novice or pro.

It has been an interesting and challenging course so far but it has taken a while to get used to studying again after 30 years away from formal education. Remote learning isn't for everyone, but there are online resources and tutors are accessible if needed.

At the British Academy of Photography, I found fantastic tutors and student services advisors who helped me through my journey of the course. I achieved the knowledge I needed from them and the assignments I had to complete. The Higher National Diploma is a perfect mix of theory and practice courses, and I would encourage anyone to enrol on it. I would recommend the British Academy of Photography to anyone interested in learning the art from the basics to become a professional photographer working with its business.

The course has been really interesting.
Classroom-based learning is lead by a group of excellent, enthusiastic and encouraging industry professionals. The course is stretching with a good mix of theory, history and practical within the assignments. It definitely teaches you new photography skills and stretches you as a photographer.

When I decided to study photography years ago at British Academy of Photography, I was not aware of this would touch my heart that much and be the turning point of my life.This was a great opportunity to meet with our kind,friendly,wise and amazing tutors Jonathan and Robert. I came every class with full of enthusiasm and enjoyed with every moment of it.I have learned a lot from them and felt very sorry to finish the course. Student team, tutors and every experience that I had there were just incredible!!!!!

Really enjoying this course of study. Covers aspects of Photography I had never thought off. Has been very demanding but not overwhelming. Great online resources and online access to peers and tutors help. Well worth the effort, glad I took the plunge.

Every contact I have with BAPH staff is a high quality, value adding event. They are prompt in responding and could not be more helpful.

I'm doing their Diploma in Photography, and I find it a brilliantly constructed course....Couldn't be happier with it.

I am now two months into the BA (photography) course on home study, and am very impressed with the learning material, the access to a library, and help on how to get more information. The assignments are interesting and thought provoking with a fair amount of academic research, and the feedback to each assignment has been very constructive and actionable. It does require putting in the hours, but no more than is explained in the BAPH literature.
I looked at a number of courses before choosing BAPH, and I am delighted I made this choice, for me it is the right balance between academic and practical.

I enrolled on the online Diploma course and would advise anyone considering this to be absolutely confident that you are able to commit to at least 15 hours a week study time. If you have any doubts, then I would recommend that you do not take this course.

Firstly, I would caution that BAPH’s promotional materials do not make it particularly clear what is expected and what this course is really about. They comment elsewhere on this review site that it is an academic course which does not seem to correlate with their website which implies that the course is about developing practical skills for enhancing your camera use, and training to become a professional photographer. The assignments are so brief that it takes a lot of time to understand what is required and the student materials only cover the basics; on the other hand the literature resources are very academic and weighty. This is all absolutely fine if you want an academic course but this is not specifically advertised as such by BAPH.

I have not been able to continue this course because of full-time work pressures, exacerbated by working through the pandemic. I have told BAPH of my intention to discontinue and have requested a refund of the remaining part of my course. I have been denied a refund and been offered a 12 month extension which is insufficient given my current circumstances.

I have found the attitude of the course administration to be somewhat nonchalant: I have been told on a number of occasions that I would not get any refund and that those were the terms I signed to. They have not been able to answer my questions as to why they are not able to deviate from their policy. Of course they do not have to deviate from their policy, but a more engaging attitude might have given me an option to continue under arrangements more suited to my circumstances. I would also advise any prospective student to have a close examination of BAPH’s policies. One thing to consider is that the 14 day refund period while being a statutory requirement is probably totally inappropriate for a course that can barely be started in that period of time.

In all this is left me with the impression that BAPH are a commercial outfit that is more driven by profit than student experience.

I have just come to the end of my first year with BAPH (online Post Grad Diploma) and am about to complete the 3rd unit out of 8. It takes a lot of focus to get the assignments completed, but they are ultimately rewarding and I have already gained some invaluable skills.

The assignment feedback is very informative and tutors seem helpful. At this point I can say that the course has given me exceptional value for money.

The best gift I have given myself has been enrolling British Academy of Photography classes. Finally, I had the chance to evaluate my hobby by professional eyes, and I also reached a lot of academic information that changes my perspective towards photography. They really encouraged me in every way.

I have gained and developed many new skills throughout my course that I will take further to establish my career in photography. My tutor has provided me with constructive feedback and helped me with my assignments when I needed it.
However, I struggled at times due to a lack of practical experience and sometimes not clear assignments brief. With some assignments I felt lost and didn't know where to start from and how should I approach it. I would definitely like to see more practical workshops with professional photographers to learn more about different camera settings and techniques, studio lighting, and different shooting scenarios. I think it would be very helpful and beneficial for students.
In general, I would recommend a course to someone who would like to get into photography, but possibly to take the classroom lessons to get more engagement with tutors and other students.

So far the course has been amazing, the tutors are very helpful and reply fast and the work has been a great learning experience for me.

I have undertaken the full Hons Degree BAPH has to offer and right from the onset I can see that this is a comprehensive way towards a future in getting better at photography from a practical and theory stand point. My experience is that of in class learning and the tutors are fantastic, share loads of anecdotal examples and encourage the use of the camera in each class.
This course might not be for those just looking to improve their photography skills in general as there is essay writing and research work involved even if you are doing the diploma or any of the HC/HND level of the course. This is a complete package where you actually studio photography as a discipline and use the historical precedent and practices to then accurately critique and improve your own work. There is a fair bit of reading of journals, papers and articles involved. So do not expect to just be told some camera hacks like a youtube video to "improve your skills in 10 easy steps" style of environment. This is a genuine and fully equipped qualification which will push you forward mentally within the world of photography. It is absolutely right up my street.
The online tutor who marks the assignments are quick in answering questions and marking assignments. Feedback is good and with this being an arts degree, there is a lot of subjectivity in feedback and opinions but that is par for the course.
I have made some good connections with my peers in my class group and we are talking to each other on social media and looking out for each others work. We look forward to the end of class photo sharing session where the tutor brings up the photos we may have taken during classes or in between classes in our own time to critique them and improve on them.
The assignments do require time and effort, however to me its enjoyable as I learn about new photographers, the history of how certain techniques or technology came about and how I can implement it in my practice.
I'm very pleased I signed up to the course through BAPH and look forward to the next sessions.

I'm currently slowly making my way through the course and so far I have had a lot of positive and helpful comments from those that I have interracted with.

Before making the decision to embark on the course, I had phone conversations and e-mail exchanges with some very helpful staff members. My course tutor is very prompt with any queries I have, as is she with marking assignments and presenting me with decent feedback. I recently had a courtesy call to see how all is going, which is lovely.

The only criticism I have is that there could be more clarity on the briefs given. I do find that I amr eading them over and over to make sure I have understood it 100% before going back with multiple e-mails to the tutors. It just needs time and dedication is all, but overall, this is a good route in for someone that's maybe never picked up a camera before, or like myself, wanting to refresh and take it more seriously.

I am at the very beginning stages of the course, with a long way to go, so I do hope that the helpful attitude and check-ins continue..

The HND at the BAPH covers a wide range of photography genres, with challenging assignments for all of them. The tutors are supportive and keep pushing your boundaries throughout the course and on the assignment's feedback and are always available for extra support when needed.
There are studio days organized by the academy and although these could occur more often, they provide valuable experience with a wide range of equipment.
